I think it would be a nice feature to add to the game that a few other mmo's have. Maybe a in-game feature to compare your acomplishments to others in the game across servers.

Relics, jobs, crafts among other things.

I know of some in other games that play specifically working towards those goals set by the achievment systems implimented in those games.

Maybe even give in game rewards based on meeting specific goals. Just the same as maat's cap is a reward for beating maat on all the jobs. But mostly I would like to be able to look at friends achievments just to compare.

Relics... i think those are your trophies.. duh
Jobs.... the levels... same that is your freakin trophy
Crafts.. really...having that rare/ex craftable only item isnt the accomplishment
The only thing i can think of that would warrant this would be storyline missions
Effing really? C'mon now.

Everywhere you go nowadays its achievements this, trophies that. Gaming is going downhill because of that. It seems as if "kids" these days need them to want to play a game. Granted im only 26, i could care less about those crap-for-nothing incentives.

Things that can be seen everyday in FFXI/POL (not counting those that are /anon)
1. Shows what level you are
2. Shows nation rank
3. Shows a persons title
4. In POL you can view a persons profile which shows all sorts of stats

Basically FFXI generally already rewards you for your hard work. Sometimes the reward doesnt seem all that great, but you get something SHOWABLE/USEABLE IN YOUR GAMEPLAY and it is known by the community that is the reward.

And you really want a trophies/acheivements on top of that? greedy are we?

Since when has getting to max level, highest rank, beating the hardest superboss, or having the best gear not enough? What about finishing and enjoying the story; also what about just beating a game?(i know the latter doesnt apply to a MMO) In which case doing these things usually/used to give you something USEFUL IN GAME to use and/or show off. Before the LOLXbox360 everyone was fine without them.

I for one am not going to kill 300 of X enemy for a 2% drop to have 16 items that are worthless (cant sell, use, or trade. can only drop) for a stupid icon that says i did it. (someone should know the game im talking about here) Now if it gave me anything useful that is rare, expensive, or powerful then sure. Trophies/Achievements are really only there as a timesink to make you think you are doing something cause the developer couldnt make a more interesting game.

Remember the days when a $30 game got you 60 hours of game play before you finish it? Now a $60 dollar game doesnt give more than 20 hours on average without repeating the same thing over and over for no reason AFTER YOU BEAT IT!

There you go. (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_Achievements) And, if you don't play on 360, you can always pester a friend who does to stand at the bard in town for 5 minutes to unlock them for you.

I don't know if this matters, I personally hate the Accomplishment/Trophy idea that most game systems have these days, however, there is an organization out there that does keep track of that kind of information for you if that is really your cup of tea.

In case you were unaware, this information is found with the Linkshell Community website. You can view Rank in all Nations, relics achieved, and all sorts of information. There are other places that use this information to Rank you versus other people on the server if you have to know just how well you place, but you will never be Stanislav, so don't think you're at/near the top.

Exactly. All it costs is a couple minutes of your time and purchasing a crystal.
