So... why can't we do /jobemote [job] motion? We can use /emote motion for any of the other emotes with animations, why not job emotes?

what i'd really like to see is for them to shorten /jobemote to /je
I'm lazy like that.

I'd also like to be able to use the animation without the text showing. I want to tie them to macros without spamming chat every time I use them.

We checked with the lead dev about this. It was planned from the beginning, not omitted for technical reasons, to keep the emote text for job emotes in the chat log. Since a few job emotes can be used on other players, if we were to hide the text from the log, there is a possibility it may be used as a means to harass people (just think if sprouts and chocobos are all over your head and you have no idea who is doing it!). To avoid this we decided to hide the job emote as well as the chat log text when the filter is on. We understand that you may not want to use the job emotes in rapid succession, or various emotes in a row, when they're constantly displayed in the log. However, we implemented the current specifications after careful consideration and don't have any plans on changing it.

I'd still say I disagree with your choice. When only 2 of 20 abilities are of harass nature, it seems silly to punish 18 emotes with a nerf just to prevent two.
Besides, couldn't you just make blockaid block emotes as well? Sure you couldn't tell who was harassing, but you'd stop him from harassing quickly enough.

I don't see how anyone would feel "harassed" by them to begin with. o0; And you could still just as easily "harass" people as it is now there is just no anonymity to it. Has anyone been or felt "harassed" by them?

Eh, I see their point. There's never been something in game before where you could apply a graphic to another player without also casting a spell on them.

Please reconsider. Have a poll on both Japanese and English forums (and the other languages) voting for this feature, please.

I think the development team is vastly over thinking this issue. If someone were to feel that harassed by emotes they should just report the player to a GM. Its no different than a player standing there and spamming the point emote at you all day either and that's not prevented. This just seems like an over protection of issue that doesn't exist.

3 actually (WHM SMN BLU) but otherwise you are correct.
EDIT: On further thought this might be a quirk of japanese culture.

The bats from the DRK emote kinda fly towards the target of the emote if there is a target.

So the emote filter doesn't stop the animation?

IDK but the point is to keep the animation without the chat spam.

With the filter on you don't see the message in the chat log or the animation/effects.

OK how about have the /jobemote motion not apply to the emotes that target another player?

It seems SE is worried that without the chat spam you won't notice that someone is giving you a chocobo on the head. But if you don't notice it, is it really harassment? It's like someone holding up 2 fingers behind your head to give you 'bunny ears'.
No one really gives a damn if some douche is giving you bunny ears, what we do give a damn about is some douche standing in pj with his annoying chat spam showing off his frog to everyone in the zone.

That would be sound reasoning, if the initiating job didn't have motions of it's own. Sudden sprout on your head? Maybe the guy who just crossed his arm Blue Mage style had something to do with it, I dunno... Bob just made a toss motion, and now there's a bandage on my head, those couldn't be in any way related, could they? I seriously hope this was a spur of the moment excuse, and not what someone was really thinking, because the process is just all kinds of wrong. Sometimes it feels like this game is being made with the base assumption that the average FFXI player is an idiot. ... Not to say that that assumption is incorrect, but it's still insulting when you program for it so blatantly.

just make blacklist block emotes?
If you're blacklisting someone I'm fairly certain you won't want to see them /cry ing or /sigh ing or /slap ing you anyway.

Here's an idea, why not change the command to something MUCH shorter and easier?
/jobemote whm
To
/whm
We all know that it's a jobemote. Why not save us some time when typing?

Depending on my last ingamedays nobody is using them anyway beside bored people.

If you could just do the motion without the text you can put it in your macros and such. I've seen ppl put dancing motions in their spell macros so it looks like they're dancing while casting spells, etc. We can't do that with the job emotes because you have to have the text along with the motion.

And? Then just don't do it. It's annoying anyway even if it's without any system message.

There's no reason these emotes should be any different that the others.
