I am just curious if anyone has ever, like I am occasionally, been left wondering if there is a computer in SE's office that hops around from mob to mob, randomly, allowing a bored employee who walks by the ability to screw with a player?

There are just some moments that happen in game, where it feels like the mob was being controlled by a person, not AI.

For instance, I have been out in Buburimu and had a goblin at the edge of my clipping plane suddenly turn on a dime and run straight at me while I was fighting something else - like it knew I was there, from very far away, with its back turned...

...or another time when I was fighting the NM rabbit in Abyssea - La Thiene and on a flat surface, it decided to flank me just as I used a WS, so I lost the TP because "I could't see the target."

Now, a reasonable person would assume these were just coincedences... perhaps the NM had some collision detection issues and thought there was terrain between us...

...SE really wasn't out to get me...

...were they?

I can just imagine employees returning to their desks, laughing maniacally after coffee breaks taken at the "murder box."

Yes your greatest fears are founded in truth. There is a Grandmaster FFXI Guru that lives 20oo miles underground in a secret hidden ocean cave underneath Japan. His sole purpose is to have mobs aggro you when you are out of range. His secondary purpose is to inflict lag when your over 100 tp and cause you keyboard/controller to become unresponsive.

I know, right!

He also DC's you in the middle of blood thirsty mobs even though your Internet connection is perfectly fine, but he just likes the fact when you log back in you're going to have lost Sneak/Invisi and die instantly, even better than that, he'll leave you in such a spot that if you were even to think of RRing you're dead and have to HP.

I also hear the same bloke is funded by Crab People. Those bastard swords...

Absolutely! I'm convinced this Guru is the one that DC'd me on my RDM Maat battle when Maat was slept @50% and I had just hit Chainspell.

You mean like when you pull something thinking it'll take the more direct route to you but instead runs up a hill for some reason and aggros a ton of other stuff? Or when all the sudden during a pull, the mob starts running AWAY from you, out of your vision, and comes back from a completely different direction with his "friends"? Or do you mean those tree climbing crabs and damselflys at the oasis in valkurm? Those things are disturbing.

It's a conspiracy I tell you. Just ask Herbert Moon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hSEwy8ZORc Warning, to those who find some things offensive, some one gets eaten by zombies, and nothing else offensive happens, trust me).

May 16th 2002 The day Skynet went online.

Thank god its just been nothing but preoccupied with FFXI. No one quits FFXI not even Skynet......

It is funny when that happens. I love it when a goblin walks right in front of you and doesn't even aggro you.

I know about this all too well. Orcs in Ron are def controlled by humans...No question about it.

I think this guru likes to follow me around and hide all the drops I need. Particularly when Im in a rush. Make me farm for a nm pop for 45 mins, or spend days hunting for a piece of gear that everyone else gets quickly...but then as soon as someone else comes along the guru wants to have whatever I was after rain from the sky...particularly if the other person is going to get it before me.

I found he likes if you change your hat though. I always keep my yagudo, qiqirn and bunny hats with me at all times now..
