Utsusemi and Shikanofuda

The three universal ninjutsu tools are great for saving space, but there's one tool I still carry around regardless - Shihei.

I don't even carry around Tabis or Sanjakus anymore when I'm on NIN, but I do still carry around Shihei because of the frequency of use, and the fact that I'll have a huge stack of them at any given moment for other jobs to use anyway.

I think they should remove Utsusemi from the list of spells that Shikanofuda can be used for. It's not a huge deal or anything, but I'm wondering if a single person actually uses Shikanofuda to cast utsusemi when shihei is going to be taking up space somewhere anyway.

It's not a big deal or anything, I just find it annoying that if it slips my mind I end up wasting a bunch of Shikanofudas on Utsusemi.

What interests me is how are the prices on the other tools since this new Universal tool came out, do people still use them have they Plummeted in price and hat of the sneak and Invisible tools? Can they be also used with the Universal tools?

The common use tools like sneak and invis are probably holding about the same, the elementals still have their uses in BCs and /NIN, but a lot of the newer tools, like Mokujin, barely ever get made given that it's pretty pointless.

I can see both sides of it, on the one hand you can keep casting utsusemi if you run out of shihei, but on the other hand, I was thinking since shihei is something I'd carry around anyway, it's convenient to have the game tell me that I'm out, prompting me to go open a bag. I'd rather not use up Shikanofuda on Utsusemi and would rather use it towards Migawari and Myoshu.

I have my toolbags of shihei in my inventory at all times when I'm playing a job that uses them...I'd think everyone would since NIN's not the only job that uses shihei.

I make sure I have my tools ready before even leaving town, keeping bags in satchel/sack should i expend a ridiculous amount of tools (5/5 ninja tool expertise + yonin cut down tool usage so much its not even funny).

Yes, so do I. You're missing what I'm getting at. What does any of that have to do with running out of shihei mid-combat? My suggestion has nothing to do with running out of tools period, but rather using tools that there's no reason to because shihei are readily available and cost something like half as much.

I mean, I guess a message when I run out of shihei, or a way to track the amount of a certain item in your gobbiebag would solve the problem too, but I doubt SE would implement anything like that.

I generally just check my shihei count periodically and try to keep two stacks going--when one gets used up, I pop a bag. Not that hard to keep track of that way unless you are pulling like crazy I guess.

Yeah, but my point was more that if people are doing that, it means they wouldn't want Utsusemi to be on the list of spells that Shikanofuda can be used for, so why not just remove it?

I'm still wondering if there's anybody that never carries around Shihei on NIN anymore and just uses Shikanofuda so they can save 1 or 2 spaces more. =P

It's not really a nerf if people just use shihei on top of the universals, which is what most people seem to do. When that happens, Utsusemi consuming Shikanofuda is something you trying to avoid.

But I guess if there's people that actually use Shikanofuda to replace Shihei, then it's fine as it is.

A comment like this would make some bit of sense if there was any sort of lore tied to the items, which there isn't...it's just another item sold by some guy working a dead-end retail job in Bastok like they're the FFXI version of Yugioh cards or something.

I think most people would rather use shikanofuda than die because they ran out of shihei. Money is hard, bro.

Yeah, money is easy to get these days. At any rate, I just restock up on Shihei and maintain it before every venture into Abyssea and when it runs out. If anything, Shika tools is a winner back up when you run of of Shihei, but can't leave for a while.

i think the priority should be changed with the universal tools, if you have the regular that should be consumed first :p
