Would it be possible to increase the frequency of Besieged? Or, at the least, reduce the amount of time it takes to go from Level 1 to Level 8 Attacking please?

I know it's a long walk from their bases but I swear they take the longest route possible, stop and smell the roses along the way and take numerous coffee breaks. :)

on behalf of Starbucks, how DARE you take issue with the coffee breaks?! I've got a quarterly income statement to do, and we depend on those Trolls for our far eastern income; do you have any idea how much one of those fat bastards can DRINK!!!

No need to worry, glamdring. If they reduced the amount of coffee breaks by 50%, while increasing the assault frequency by three times, you'd still earn more money, as well as spread the customers out a bit more which would avoid really long queues.

Why? The Trolls need maps, Besieged needs a skillup nerf, and the mechanic is pretty much dead anyway after Siren finally got defeated.

Why do people keep using siren's loss as a benchmark for how many people likes to do besieged? There's still enough people who like besieged to keep the astral candy most of the time, and there would be even more if the rewards from besieged were bumped up a bit.

After all, people mainly go after the rewards, not the fun. Of course, if something is both fun and rewarding, it is a recipie for success. At the moment, I think Besieged isn't very rewarding, but still fun enough to make me come back there time after time. I just wish the rewards would be a bit cooler, and reflect the amount of time it takes to do it.

Considering it's an event which can't be done anytime you want, doesn't happen too often, and always had terrible exp rewards, I think it's time to fix that a bit. After all, the real reward used to be keeping the exp bonus in the area, but now that people don't really exp there too much, I think it's time to increase the other rewards too.

For starters, the exp cap should be much higher. I shouldn't be able to fight in there for 20 minutes, then just idle for the rest of the battle and still get as much exp as if I fought with all my might for an hour. Secondly, in addition to the cap, the total exp gained should probably be greater. Considering two exp chests in abyssea grants us more exp than an hour of lv8 besieged, it is easy to see why people don't bother as much as they used to. I think maybe the exp caps should be at 1500 times the besieged level. Level 1 besieged capping at 1500 exp, and lv8 besieged capping at 12000 exp. If course, the IS gain wouldn't have to get as huge an increase, maybe just twice of what it is today, or just no boost at all.

Also, while I am well aware that i can check besieged status via the ToAU region map, it would be nice if people could for example obtain a key item which would let them see the besieged messages that we get in the chat log while in aht urhgan all over the world. It is easy to forget about it when you are deep into a dungeon elsewhere in the world. Getting those messages would give me plenty of time to finish up what i was doing down there, and get back to do besieged.

Siren's record has nothing to do with it. There are still people who enjoy Beseiged believe it or not. Enough that when the AC is lost people do the BCNM to get it back. Would be nice to see better skill-ups, higher level mobs, Sky Serpent Generals more awesome than they are now, and increased IS rewards from winning though, but I still go back.

You have to remember too, there are still people who like to do Assault/Salvage/Nyzul, some for the rewards, some for the Atma for completion, so keeping the AC is kind of nice so that they can use the Runic Portals.

I have no issue with checking the status of Beseiged from my menu. Am just suggesting that it not take literally hours for one to begin, especially from level 7-8.

Because it's true!

Most of the servers gave up Besieged (except the cheaters who skill-up in Besieged) a long time ago!

Retention of the Astral Candescence, especially in Abyssea-FFXI, is of ZERO value to most players. Most players (except for those who basically use Whitegate as a JP-onry shout-hub) don't even do ToAU content anymore!

Same can be said for Wings content.

Siren's Besieged streak was a large part of the identity of the server. (It also gave an indication of the type of players who _were_ on the server while I was there, and was a large part of the basis of why I jumped there.) Losing that effectively killed Besieged as a legitimate game mechanic (in much the same way removing the abusive/cheating exploits in Campaign effectively killed Campaign as a game mechanic in FFXI).

Sorry, them's facts. YMMV for individual players, but the server as a whole is another question.

Only because the number of people needed at level 90 to beat back the Beastmen is far fewer than at level 75.

I'd rather see more of a punitive approach -- the Anakin Skywalker-"We must make them care" approach.

The entire basis of Besieged was literally a "drop everything -- Al Zahbi is under attack!" motif. Loss of the Astral Candescence should be a HIGHLY punitive action against a server. Effectively, all game progress within ToAU should stop when the Candy is gone. No XP, No IS, no mission progression, no Assaults, no Nyzul -- NOTHING.

(I'd like to see a similar thing in Campaign, along with the ability of the Beastmen to take the cities.)

The problem is that Besieged does not exist for the players. You're presuming Besieged is an offensive event, where it is actually a defensive event which requires server cooperation and players who actually care about retention of the Candescence.

Why don't you just admit that the game has no purpose to you except when it literally... excretes rewards at you?

On our server, it's basically left to the few JP's who can be suckered in to do the dirty work for the rest of the server.

Better skill-ups? How about NO skill-ups??? One of the biggest abuses/cheats that the Besieged crowd has openly exploited for years upon years is simply going to Besieged to effectively train to fight.

That's not what Besieged is. Besieged is effectively a fight to the finish -- where the skills you should have gotten elsewhere (but, what am I saying? Most players probably leeched their last four jobs 30-90 in Abyssea!!) are put to the test.

wait, it's cheating to skill up in beseiged? DAMMIT! Now I gotta give back like 130 levels of skill from my various jobs... SE, why did you leave this in there if it was a cheat?! I do NOT want to be violating the ToS or game design parameters... this is your fault!

if I may be so bold as to make an assertion, perhaps the reason people don't camp out to do beseiged is that it happens so infrequently that by the time it finally DOES roll around you've probably found something else to do? After all, you can look, almost any time of day and see that there is no beseiged on, nor are they even getting ready for one. at that point, I find something else to do...

I never used Beseiged to skill up anything either. Just a suggestion for others. Skills capped all jobs pre Abyssea, (well except Guard and Parry) and then re-capped in Abyssea or outside of it.

I like Beseiged, so do others and all that was asked/suggested is that it be re-vamped somewhat.

This is a game to be enjoyed in whatever way people choose. Your opinion is valued however. Thanks!

Naja will provide the Troll map, my gardening mule will plant a rose bush or 2 along the routes to smell and Glamdring will provide coffee stands. :)
