View Full Version : Universal tools used up on accident

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I carry some shihei on me as well as the universal tool (Shikanofuda). So, after a linkshell event, I come to find out that I ran out of shiehi an hour ago and burned through a bunch of the much more expensive Shikanofuda.

Is anyone else think this is a problem and is there an easy way around this? For now I've started carrying two stacks of de-toolbagged Shihei on me, but yay for inventory space -1.....

Even better, I wish we could use ninja tools that are located in your SACK instead of your inventory.

Anyone else agree?

I don't know if I agree with using tools out of your sack (or satchel). However, I do wish there was something that could be done about the problem with universal tools. I really don't have a legal suggestion though. If this were WoW, where outside programs were allowed to be used, then I would suggest a mod that notified you when you ran out of a particular tool. Since we can't do that here, our only options are to pay better attention to our tool consumption, or just cringe after we realize we've been using tools that are twice as expensive.

Simply put the tools you don't want to use in your sack. If you want to use UT for Sneak and Invis and Shihei for shadows, keep a limited number of UT in your inventory, say 10. If you're going to be fighting a lot, move the UTs to the sack. Paying attention is the best solution.

Ideally, Ustusemi should be removed from the Shikanofuda alternative.

Only real option at the moment is to check your inventory periodically. Unless they make it so you can assign the tools in a macro your going to burn through them if you don't check often. If you are bad at that, make some room and add another stack or two of your most used tools. (like shihei) Even with a few extra of those you're still going to have room in comparison to what it used to be for nin.

It happened to me...I learned to check my inventory...life goes on :)

They should just make a notification in your chat log when it uses a Universal Tool.
"You do not have the required Ninja Tool to cast Utsusemi, Using Shikanofuda instead."

This is the last thing that needs to happen. Some of us basically only use universal tools.

It's not a terrible idea, as long as they add a chat filter for it, making it optional.

I'd probably use it. I use universal tools for everything but Utsusemi, but the frequency with which I cast anything but Utsusemi is fairly limited.

If you're using Yonin, AFv2(+1) gloves and have 4/5 atleast on ninja tools expertise, you shouldn't worry to much about that, get 2 stack of shihei on you and it should last a day.
But otherwise it would be nice to have a little utsusemi icon somewhere in the interface (next to the weather icon?) and it give you remaining shihei based on your main inventory.

Or they could make the universal tools cheaper so you don't need shihei. Then make the universal tools craftable so WWs don't have a nervous breakdown.

I think i'd still buy shihei even if that were the case. They go fast, even more so if you have 5 (7 if you count ichi and ni) other spells dedicated to one tool packet type. If you have any job that is subbing ninja you'd have to buy them anyway. 2 birds one stone kinda thing.

I would like to see them craft-able soon, NPC prices will get out of control at this rate.

I agree some form of notification would be convenient. I think the easiest way would be a one-time notification that you don't have the original tool that only reappears after zoning would be a good option and probably easy to implement. In the end, they aren't that much more expensive than shihei (like 7k or something irrelevant), so it's not the end of the world, but can easily be avoided by rationing them out of your satchel/sack when needed.

stack of shihei toolbags on ragnarok's AH = 100k

stack of shihei toolbags from the npc= 240k

I can easily go through half or more in a day if on nin, so ya def prefer shihei

How about make a Key Item quest available to AF level NIN's that would give them an extra bag to keep tools in.

Or make them like Automaton Attachments... trade them to NPC, and use at will.

Paying attention would seem to be the best solution in my opinion....

I'm not sure the universal tools are intended to completely render normal tools obsolete; only to be an option for those with more money than inventory space.
