View Full Version : Ranged attack = Ruby?
Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I haven't used my Sharpshot in Abyssea a lot. I noticed that every time it kills a mob with its ranged attack, I get a ruby light. Thought this only happens with WS kills?

Actually all job abilities give ruby light, so it was a fix, not a mistake on se's part
ra for pets is definitely a ja and has been shown multiple times

thing is, ranged attack-whether from a player or a pet-should simply be considerred a range touch attack, i.e. count to pearl. Now, a Barrage, or ranged weapon skill, or a shot generated as a job ability-like bounty shot- I could see counting towards ruby, but seriously anything else is just poking the mob, and to me that means pearl.

O i agree, it should be pearl. Its just that its actually a job ability so the fact it gives ruby now is a fix. Although the correct fix would be to make it not a JA so that snapshot works on it and so that it gives pearl light

ra for pets is definitely a ja and has been shown multiple timesActually I got a killing Blow with Eagle Eye Shot on the Marbol NM in Abyssea Highlands and got a Pearlecent Light.

This is incorrect. Chi Blast, Quick Draw, Jump, and Blood Pacts all give pearl. I'm not sure of others.

I could understand if all pets gave ruby on special abilities, but if bloodpacts are pearl then apparently it's only automaton JAs.. I think Valoredge's Shield Bash gave ruby as well, but it's rare to actually see it kill something with it.

don't think we are arguing, 1 guy made a statement that SE classes pet ranged attacks as a ruby event, the rest agree they did, but say that the regular pet ranged attack SHOULD be a pearl event. Noone is arguing for WS or barrage and the like to not be ruby.
Also, 1 commenter was pointing out that while pet range might be counted as a JA and thus to ruby that not all JA count to ruby. In other words, SE can change this if they really want to, and most of us think they should.
so, SE, HINT!!!
This does affect our party love, people blame our pets for messing up the light balance because we are getting ruby (as if ruby isn't required to get max XP per kill, but whatever). I was told to call of my blm pet in a pt pecause he was getting Azure when we were going for Pearl, mistakenly switched to Sharpshot and got screamed at for getting Ruby. Tried whm but "it sucked" because it wouldn't heal consistently... I didn't use Valoredge because it's still 120 melee levels from cap so I need to work on it a bit 1st.

yep, it does suck. I use VE almost exclusive now. The ranger pet can do some dmg but it dies fast still. I don't have victory smite yet for the big light chains but I am content with 6-8k dark with VE. I still easily one shot any normal IT mob in abyessa.

really? I don't have probs with SS dieing quickly, I deploy at a distance where it solely uses ranged. Granted, I use Voracious Violet, Drifter and Mounted champion when I use SS so maybe that's why.

Ya, I don't like to gimp my damage for puppet and I never put SS out of ranged, he shoots way too slow.

don't consider it gimping, 1 atma for survival, 1 specific to boosting ranged damage and 1 to boost WS usage, works pretty well. I lose 1 auto /hour usually solo, less when in a pt.

Putting ranger puppet outside of melee range is gimping just so you know. You did do a hell of a lot more dmg having you and VE puppet setup for dmg. Every second mob you will one shot.

lol, once I get VE to the point it can hit the broadside of a barn, probably. I'm working on auto skill (and my h2h/guard /sigh) while pounding out an empy weap since I have no desire for Burts now. My luck being waht it is, I'll probably finish it just when the Mog scam drawing is... and win a Kenkonken. Won a temp torque last round, then got my ferine and aoidios necklaces within 2 RL days.

once you get the melee up, hes pretty good know. its nice to be able to switch out a damage ws to heal him once in a while, too bad ranger puppet didnt have something like that

This is not a bug. It's a result of automaton ranged attacks being set up as job abilities. Monsters act the same way with ranged attacks, and automatons are more like monsters than they are like players.
