So.... Thinking of coming back

Hello guys and girls.

I am thinking of coming back,

I played for a long long time about 4-5 years ago now, and have the itch to return and see what has changed.

I have already phoned customer support and they have informed me that my main character is still available and eligible to be returned

I know it is going to take me some time to get back into the swing of things.

I have most jobs (up to RotZ) leveled to about 30-40 and my mains SMN WAR and RNG to about 60 ish.

My main goals this time are to at least hit the cap on a couple of jobs and finish all the story missions and really enjoy myself.

My problem is I don't want to get too overwhelmed and I cant find and up to date guide anywhere.

Basically all I am after is a low down of the current goings on in FFXI these days and things I will need to do once I return to catch up to speed. (I left just before ToAU)

So when it comes to level my jobs... Is it best for me to just level sync to parties in quifim/dunes? and get to cap that way? Is there anything I should know that would help me level faster?

What do i do about all my gear? I was fairly well kitted out when I left. would this still be the case? For example I have full austere/af on my SMN,
Is the best gear still received from NM drops and high level crafts?

On that note is it still worth camping NM's for gear? Im talking emp hairpin, leaping boots, peacock charm etc....

I am hoping I have plenty of money on my char once I re activate. If not, is it still a case of farming low level crafting mats/crystals to make a quick bit of cash?

Anything I need to know about the jobs? I left soon after the RNG nerf (ish) and it was all loldrg etc... Is every job viable now?

I could probably ask 100 questions but I think I will leave it as that for now.

It's according to how you want to play and if you find a good group.

If you've read the posts here jobs can be leveled easily to 90 now. Your skills will suffer tho but alot (not all) of the players don't mind that (I do!). Old gear that took an amazing amount of time to get is now collecting dust in mog lockers and storage.

Rng is still nerfed (imo), drg is still lol'd. If you don't have mnk, war, whm, blm, thf (for procs) then its harder than normal to get groups for what you want in abyssea.

Whitegate isn't the congested area now...Port Jeuno is.

Some crafts are still viable but the variety on the AH has narrowed on dramatically.

There are still people that are doing CoP and missions for other stuff but few and hard to find.

I don't want to discourage you from coming back and enjoying the game (7yrs playing for me so far and I still love it) but I don't know if I could start back like you're wanting to at this point...

You can get any of your lv60 jobs to 90 in a day now, but expect your skills to be gimped until you skill up on them later. Did you complete Chains of Promathia? If not, they removed the level caps in all fights and you can mostly solo them. Purchase the new FFXI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition for $19.99 from the XI website (I believe it's a digital download, maybe on Steam as well?) and you'll get everything the game has up to this point, including a useful black chocobo knit hat.

So Would my best bet first thing to take one of my 60 jobs to abbysea and get to 90? How does this exp leeching in abyssea work?

Afer I have a 90 I can probs do most of the CoP missions solo? What about ToAU? or WotG?

And what about gear/weaponskills? Will I get drops in abbysea? I dont really fancy being level 90 in level 60 gear... Or is that something I worry about once I get there?

I also see they released a couple more avatars for SMN, I will be missing Diablo, Odin and Alexander. Are these obtainable once I hit 90?

Getting to 90 will help. Leeching a job to 90 well that depends on the pt. Most leechers open chests with keys. The keys yo buy with Cruor which you get from killing abyssea mobs.

Not sure on the ToAU or WoTG being soloed. I do know that some of the WoTG missions can be soloed though.

Gear wise you would do well to get to abyssea gear. You will also want to gear up some in the 75 gear until you can get the Abyssea gear.

Diablos you just need to be past his mission in CoP to get. Alexander and Odin on the other hand you need to be past ToAU mission 48 to get them.

The story lines/missions for Treasures of Aht Urghan and Wings of the Goddess (especially windy arc) are better than any other game out there, single or multiplayer, that I have played. Don't miss out on em!

I'd still invite you on RNG and DRG. Altough I agree with you that these jobs should get a little boost, the reason why they get "lols" has alot to do with past bias.

It's been so long. As much as people bash SE What they have done with this game is incredible.

I feel like I have unfinished business so to speak and it will bug the hell outta me till I get it outta my system!
