I am sure that most people are like me and get supremely depressed when they get a job to AF levels that requires a coffer in Garlaige Citidel. You can count on shouting endlessly in Jeuno and Whitegate for help and not receive any unless you offer a substantial gil reward. Even linkshell members shrink back in fear of venturing forth into that bat and beetle infested derelict keep. SE please help us. We need a way to prop those infernal doors open, I see stones easily the size of 2 large Tarutaru sitting by the pressure plates, please get a galka to move them onto the plates so that the screaming in the cities can end once and for all.

As far as I'm the first one to agree that help has got harder and harder to come by, SE has already done something to help people with your problem, and you can in fact solo past door 2 and 3 to reach the coffers now^^
To check past door 3: Retrace, enter Garlaige Citadel (S) and follow the left wall up to the fork in H-7, then turn right and follow the left wall again. This will soon bring you outside back in Sauromugue Campaign, where the cavernous maw is. Go across it, and back in the present. Now, enter Garlaige Citadel by the door near the maw and you'll be past gate 3!
To check past door 2: If the coffer isn't behind gate 3, don't leave just yet! Follow the only possible path, down some broken stairs. After you drop, simply bring up the map and head to G-10, where you will find yet another broken stair, and a sparkling light. Trade a flower to the sparking light to be warped above the broken stair's ledge, giving you access to all the coffer spots pasta Gate 2! (Note: To be able to be warped by the light, you must first get a cutscene in Garlaige Citadel (S) by talking to a Lycopium NPC. Its position should be the same of the sparking light, behind a door.
Hope this helps you find all your AF. It really helped me on mine!

Banishing Gates are just a reinforcement that FFXI is a game about working with your friends to achieve your goals.

Used to hate all AF quests in that zone till they came out with the Maws and Lypocodium npcs, now love being able to solo them. Maybe one day they will extend this to The Eldieme Necropolis gate system also.

yeah they already solved this using the past... (as stated above)

Except in the cases where your AF quests specifically require passing through the gates, such as the quest for the THF artifact feet. There is no way to complete this test if you don't have four people to allow you access through the gate.
They should make it like the quest where you can get the KI to open the 3 mages gate in the ruins. Make a quest where you can get a key item that will open the banishing gates in GC and another quest for EN.

Not trying to troll, I'm seriously curious about this....does no one make friends and join linkshells with the intent of doing things together any more?
Just seems like there is a growing number of threads like this...."omg this can't be done solo and no matter how much I shout I can't get anyone to team up with me, so SE needs to change it to make it soloable".

I don't know anyone in my time zone that plays, much less on my server in my time zone. My LS is on EST, and I'm in Alaska, so I'm 4 hours behind them. I play mainly in the evenings and nights, and my LS has usually gone to bed by the time I get home from work. If I'm lucky, I can get one person from the LS to help me with something, and I have a few things that need a full party.

Don't have any on late during the weekends that you can make plans with? ...may be time to get another pearl from people more in your time zone. There are a LOT of West Coast players. Have a lot in my main shell that don't get on till 11pm or later my time, and they routinely hop to other shells once everyone on our side goes to bed. It doesn't prevent us from setting up times to do stuff with them.

My night to play isn't on the weekend. Tuesday is my day off from work. I work weekends and can't stay up late. Every LS I can find is EST. I've tried shouting, I've tried posting LS requests on forums.

I just go through the past and use the podium warp if needed. lol
No problem. ^^

You might want to make friendly with some JP or EU (or Aus) players, then. Or Canadians. Or other Alaskans. Or west coasters.

Like I said, I don't know anyone in my time zone that plays. Everyone I have made friends with plays way more often than me and blows past me in content. I tried to do a set party a few times, and don't play often enough for them to want to wait for me. We made it three sessions going through CoP before someone quit and everyone else joined a more frequent set. One night a week is about what I get, and sometimes that gets shortened by the GF.
I know there are a lot of west coast players, I just don't find many on Ragnarok.

You do make a good point but at the same time of the growing number of threads like this you speak of you can find an equal amount of threads from people stating no one wants to help out anymore even in linkshells. And with the diminishing amount of players and the joining of servers due to the lack of players, simple things like going threw gates should become more soloable. Like I said earlier in this thread maybe adding a quest similar to the 3 mage gate to get a KI to open the gates solo or something along those lines.
I'm with you on the fact that people are trying to make this more of a solo game and not an MMO. Make some friends, join an LS that isn't specific. What I mean by that if you join an LS that says they are Endgame, or Abyssea or whatever then most likely it's harder to get help for more basic missions, quests, and content. Joining a more social LS may improve your chances overall but by no means is this the end solution when very few ppl want to help out anymore.

To be bluntly honest, most players I come across are not interested in spending their playtime helping others do group content they themselves have already done unless there is something in it for them - gil, xp, gear, items, etc.
I personally am only able to find help in doing group content from other players who also need the same group content as I do, with the occasional bored player who helps IF I have done all the research about the group content I need help with.

For me I am hit or miss if I will help out players. Often times I tell them catch me the next day (toss me a tell) and I will help them. Often I am helping family members or friends. Or occasionally making a party to do what I want to do (or soloing it if I cannot make a party).
It really is a balance some people do not play all the time so while they are helping out others they do not get their own things done. (My own WotG, ToAU, and farming key items for Rani and Raja have been put on hold as I help the people listed above.)

I'd like to see them get rid of the operating levers in Halvung too. At least with the gates in Garlaige and Eldieme, you only need to get back there once per AF or other quest. For Halvung, it's after just about every Besieged in which the Trolls take prisoners. It's endless.

you can do this solo, just go to the past and examine the glowing thing that give you the CS with the mandy then any time you need to get past the banishing gate you just trade a carnation or something to the one in the present to get past

As already stated, but GC is mainly fixed, only pain left is Eldieme ><
Bungiefan, There are plenty of PST linkshells around, so I'm sure there are plenty on your server. If not, just join parties when you're on and ask the people you party with if they have a LS that is full around that time. Might be that an Australian LS is more your play time.
Edit: Posted this before I realised there was a 2nd page of posts >.>

Banishing Gates are just a reinforcement that FFXI is a game about working with your friends to achieve your goals.
Clearly SE don't agree with your rose-tinted spectacle view of the game as it used to be.
Roadblocks like those were asinine when used in the context of character progression, same as all the Genkai, apart from Maat, the ONLY single test of a player's skill all the way to even the current level cap.
At least SE fixed this, eventually.
