View Full Version : Bolts - Please Help

Been playing as THF since I started (first job). My favorite two jobs are THF and COR.

One thing I've noticed over the years is how awesome bolts have been. I spam blind, acid, and bloodies all the time. However, once you hit the higher levels, 70+, bloodies start to lose some of that impact they did before.

If I miss a shadow cast, or manage to get hit, it's usually for a generous amount of HP (Only fight Even Matches or Stronger). The amount healed by bloody bolts seem to make little impact to make up for hits I receive (even when the bolts land unresisted). Sub dancers use waltzes to heal for much more than bolts do. I love going /NIN and I love /WAR even though I don't have Dual Wield yet.

Can we please get a small boost to Bloody bolts? or perhaps make a new drain bolt? (possibly from a super high alchemy crafted bolt head?).
Other bolts I'd like to see: Aspir bolt, Paralyze Bolt, Slow Bolt.

Inb4: ur dumb, just use sub dnc

I agree with new status bolts, would love to see some higher level ones. Although the low level ones shouldn't receive a boost imo, they're broken enough as it as on low levels. I was able to solo climb every promy and do some low mission fights (like the 2-3 dragon fight) with ease already, no reason to make that even easier.

i personally think the old bolts are fine as is, but we need more types to be honest.

stun bolts
att. down bolts
m. att. down bolts
m. def down bolts
amnesia bolts
paralyze bolts
addle bolts
tp drain bolts
mp drain bolts
slow bolts
etc...

it would really enhance our versatility a lot and allow us to support the party in more ways than a 5 min dispel and hate juggling abilities that just aren't that useful anymore

the bolts we have are fine, but make their effect scaleable, tied to a user stat, similar to how cure potency increases with Mind as an example. So as you level and your stats increase so do bolt effects, and you can gear to boost effects, too. However, ranger should have a job trait that makes their effects much greater for ranger than for other jobs; let's not kill ranger's utility.

There are a few status bolts I would like to see added, specifically a paralysis and a silence bolt.

Honestly a dispel/higher HP/paralyze/slow course of bolts is all I would really want to see. As much as I would LOVE TP drain bolts... Doubt that's gonna happen. It would either be 1-3 and not worth it or just busted. (8 TP from a bolt +20 from the drain? Would be too nuts)

I'd love to have a useful dispel but not via bolts. I'd like to see the whole aurasteal thing fixed so that the ability is actually useful. It being tied to the success rate of (item)Steal and the 5 minute recast make it ineffective. Monster uses buff > THF uses Aurasteal > 5 seconds later monster Buffs itself again > Aurasteal timer is at 4:55....yeah.

If they lowered the timer to something like...30 seconds. That could be relevant. If you think about it, BLU already has 2 spells (Voracious Trunk and Osmosis) that do this with a fraction of the recast that Aurasteal has now. Osmosis Steals HP as well. Perhaps Aurasteal could be retooled to function this way? Steal HP and a Beneficial Status effect?

Stun would be awesome too, but I'd rather they adjust mug to do that and lower the recast timer (30 seconds) to be relevant. I wonder how they would feel about THF being able to stun lock with bolts? Probably not very realistic.

TP drain bolts are probably not realistic either, but perhaps something that lowers the mob's TP without giving it to you?

Enhancing the effect of bloody bolts would be a godsend. They could add some type of new bolt, xbow or armor that would enhance them at higher levels.

It would be nice not to have to switch to a bow to paralyze but Paralyze bolts would have to be pretty potent to make me switch from the arrows. As it stands now, The paralyze effect, procs very well, even on high level NMS, can last for over 15 minutes from just one arrow and the paralyze effect is quite potent. Well worth the TP loss in high level solos.

Slow and silence would be amazing bolts to have! They have given silence to us via arrows but they don't proc well enough to be reliable. Slow is the only thing we don;t really have an option for and I would love to see it. I wonder if they would give that to us?

I would really like to see a trait (or just a general adjustment to status bolts) that increases the duration of status bolt debuffs. Most of them wear very quickly relative to comparable effects.

A low delay, low damage crossbow that "Enhances the effects of status bolts" would be a nice addition as well.

i can see most of your points nebo, except the stun lock thing. thf can already do that to most non dark based mobs with sleep bolts. and i love the idea for the xbow that increases the effects of status bolts, that would be godly+1.

You have a good point. I think Stun bolts (that actually proced well) would allow us to to it to more NM's though. Right now this is kind of balanced in the sense that we can't do it on any Sleep reistant NMs or anything. Mostly the NM's and HNM's area is where I don;t feel they'ed let us.

Although there is the spartan bullet? Do those proc well? DO RNG's use them for much of anything?

Aren't there also sleep arrows as well as sleep bolts? So it wouldn't be the first time two types of ammo had the same effect.

My experience with bloody bolts has been that the more ranged accuracy I have equipped, the more the drain seems to trigger and not get resisted. Feint also seems to help with this. Maybe it's just dumb luck, but if it is, it's been an a** load of dumb luck.

I use Sleep Bolts a lot when solo farming (especially in Dynamis now). Every 50 seconds, SA is ready and I nail the monster with a Sleep Bolt, run around > SA, turn and strike. This increases the TH now as well sometimes. That little trick I remember learning 6 years ago when I was equipping throwing weapons instead while farming. Then I saw this Japanese THF do this and thought "holy crap! That's brilliant!" I honestly hadn't looked at bolts enough at that point. So then I started to look at them and arrows, and since arrows had more status ailments available, I went that route at first... but then they weren't helping me as much as I'd hoped, so I tried bolts and haven't looked back since.

We need newer bolts for sure, especially with the Magic Accuracy and Ranged Accuracy items. I would like to see maybe an Addle Bolt because mages seem to destroy me faster than any other job type. I mean, it doesn't have to be an insanely potent Addle, but even just a little help would be nice against mages.
