When I talk to the chocobo npc and outpost npc in Upper Jeuno and North San d'oria, my character occasionally cannot do anything else and is locked there. Sometimes it is freed after some time with the San d'oria outpost NPC but not with the chocobo one in Jeuno.

I am having similar problems with the chocobo NPC in Upper Jeuno (don't know about Sandy NPC). I am attempting to get a new character his chocobo license, if it matters.

2. Sometimes
It happed with certain npcs more frequently than others. It has happened rarely on the signet npc in Port Jeuno as well.

Character Name:
Vegetatheprince

Race:
ElvaanM

World:
Caitsith

Main Job:
90 Blu

Support Job:
45 Nin

Area and Coordinates:
Northern San d'oria, Upper Jeuno, Port Jeuno

Party or Solo:
Both on different occasions.

NPC Name:
It was the outpost NPC Juanvirguard(spelling?) in Northern San d'doria, BOTH chocobo NPCs in Upper Jeuno, and the signet NPC in Port Jeuno.

Steps:
Detailed steps on how the issue occurred.
I was attempting to interact with these npcs by clicking on them. Basically it just locks my character in place as if a cut-scene were started but it becomes an indefinite lock, or at best it brings up the proper actions after 2-3 minutes. The send and receive still work and I'm still able to communicate but not able to open the chat log or enter a menu. This has been going on for a year at least and I have changed from San d'oria to bastok to make teleporting to an outpost easier.

I'd like to add that this bug also affects the Japanese PS2 client.

I attempted to report this very same issue through the support website (http://support.na.square-enix.com/) and I was mailed back about placing the issue on another feedback channel.

I was annoyed, stopped using the PS2 version and started playing from my Windows PC.

Please solve this issue, thank you.

Outpost Warp Lockups on PS2

Platform:
Playstation2

ISP:
AT&T Uverse

Type of Internet Connection:
DSL

Internet Connection Speed:
18m down/1.5m up

Date & Time:
Various

Frequency:
State how frequently the issue occurs. Please select from the following.
2. Sometimes happens, not every time

Character Name:
Heywood

Race:
Hume M

World:
Bismark

Main Job:
Various

Support Job:
Various

Area and Coordinates:
North Sandoria, Outpost warp npc

Party or Solo:
Various, sometimes solo, sometimes in party

NPC Name:
Jeanvirgaud

Monster Name:
none

Steps:
Clicking on the npc will just lock my character and not allow me to cancel out of the dialog. I can move the camera, but I can not move my character. I also can type, and view /l or /p chat channels. It's as if the PS2 is waiting for something before the npc gives me the dialog to allow me to warp. Sometimes it resolves itself in 30secs-1min, at which point the npc will commence the dialog and let me teleport. If the lockup lasts longer than a minute, I end up having to force reboot the PS2. I've left it alone for up to 5mins and had it not work. It always seems to work directly after a reboot.
I also leave an alternate character on overnight for bazaar purposes, so the PS2 is rarely turned off and therefore rarely gets reboots until there is a problem.

Thank you for filling out the information that we needed guys. I'm escalating this to the developers now. We have received many of these types of reports in-game as well in the past. One resolution given to us would be to try running a file check on your FFXI files, which can be done from your POL viewer login screen. This could resolve your problem, but nonetheless the issue will now be escalated. Thank you!

Just wanted to add a bit more to this bug, after extensive testing to get around it.

Platform: PS2
ISP:Comcast
Type of Internet Connection: Cable
Internet Connection Speed: 10mb
Date & Time: "sometimes"
Frequency: "sometimes"
Character Name: Varos
Race: ElvaanM
World: Gilgamesh (Cargamesh? Gilbunkle?)
Main Job: Mnk (doesn't matter what job I'm on)
Support Job: Nin (doesn't matter what job I'm on)
Area and Coordinates: Northern San d'Oria, Southern San d'Oria, Bastok Mines, Port Bastok, multiple coordinates.
Party or Solo: Party and Solo
NPC Name: Jeanvirgaud and Explorer Moogle, Amutiyaal, Conrad, Keturah, Trilok
Monster Name: not related
Steps:
1. Try to interact with any of the above NPCs like normal.
2. Character becomes locked as if a cutscene is about to begin. NPC dialog does not begin. Cannot cancel interaction.
I can still talk over linkshell and party channels. Occasionally I will see other players run up to the NPC, having no problems. Other players have tried casting spells on me to "interrupt" the interaction, without success.
3. Wait 1-30min... "sometimes" the NPC will respond and continue normally. Most of the time, requires a reboot. At those times where it DOES begin to respond again, many player models begin to appear on screen, that I couldn't see while frozen. Perhaps this is partially related to some gear, similar to the Empyrean Thief leg armor.

I have run the file check many times, please don't suggest it.

Discovered a "Work-around": I began to think some data wasn't being loaded for the NPC to interact properly with me. Most of the time this bug would happen as I was quickly running directly to these NPCs and I would begin interacting with them while I was still receiving a lot of data (Send/Receive indicator at the top right) as much as 1200-2000 in many cases.

To avoid this issue, I have started to always wait for my "Receive" rate to fall to a steady rate below 500 before I begin interacting with an NPC. Since waiting like this, I have not had a freeze up. (however, I have avoided interacting with NPCs I've had trouble with in the past as much as possible, so my rate of encountering the bug may have been artificially lowered.)

Something else I noticed: Some NPCs that I had no trouble with as a San d'Orian, started giving me trouble when I switched nations to Bastok and Windurst. (notably: Trilok never locked up when I was San d'Orian, but froze up when I was Bastokan. Since this problem, I switched "Escort for Hire" missions to Windurst, since it never locks up on me.)

A side issue that *might* be related, is when I was San d'Orian and I would run either direction between the Southern San d'Oria gate and the Mog House entrance, cutting through the grass past the Bastok Consulate, my screen would go black as I was passing the consulate, requiring a reboot of the PS2. This location was right around the Outpost Warp NPC Jeanvirgaud and the Explorer Moogle, both of which I had issues with.

In the past, this SAME ISSUE was encountered in Aht Urhgan Whitegate. The Currency NPC and Assault Mission counter NPCs would lock up exactly like this. The issue was resolved long ago.
