View Full Version : AF2 - NM's - & More.. - Issues & Solutions

I'd like to point out that SE's impression upon me an possibly others is that they care
about the players considerably so they brought a time limit to bosses an the like of about
under 3 hours or so.
While that was a good idea I'd like to point out a few things:
Dynamis Xarcabard: (Problem#1)
AF2 (from here) has been amazingly hard to acquire, granted players control
the parties that get together. The drop rates have been so horrible that in my
case it's taken me from the time I started playing dynamis (2004 I believe)
to recently (within the last month of 2011) to acquire the Red Mage AF2 Hat.
That's 7 years! given that I still don't have the Thief AF2 Gloves or any of the
items to upgrade either of them! I can understand wanting to make items
challenging to acquire. However what part of my time frame falls under "caring"
by the standards that set boss battles to around 3 hours?
Solution Suggestion for #1:
Force NM's (Notorious Monsters) of the area to drop their respective AF2 at a 100%
drop rate or very very close to it (no less than 80% chance). As for items to upgrade
such AF2 please either improve the drop rate significantly to the point it is noticeable
or find/create a set of NM's to drop the respective "-1 AF2" in a fashion like suggested
to the drops in Dynamis Xarcabard only in the areas corresponding to said "-1 AF2".
--------
Notorious Monster's: (Problem #2)
Much like the issue in problem #1 the same concept sort of applies here.
Viscount Morax (NM) - Is said to be a lottery spawn with a socially said maximum
timer of 4 hours, granted it's said to be linked with a few other local NM's that
would mess with it's spawn. I spent 19+ hours at this challenge while keeping
the area clear of all summoner type demons only. For the duration of the
time only 3 people passed through the zone. A vigilant watch on the other NM
areas removes the possibility of another player interfering with the work done here.
The social data used for this NM dates as far back as 2003 (I think) but regardless
remains consistent up to today. So how is it that it failed to spawn?? what part
of this hunt for a NM falls under the concept of keeping things within a reasonable
time frame for players to enjoy this game? 19+ HOURS is not an ideal time frame
for a "lottery spawn" that's more along the lines of a 24 hour NM which this is NOT.
Solution Suggestion for #2:
Change this NM and related NM's to it in the area to force spawns, enable items
to spawn them to have a reasonable drop rate/acquirement condition.
-----------
Notorious Monster's: (Problem #3 & solution to #3 within here)
Mysticmaker Profblix NM - This has the Moldavite Earring at 25.1% drop rate or so it
is socially said. I spent 3 WHOLE DAYS without sleep (in 2007) camping this thing and
for the entire duration of that time the earring never dropped! claim and kill one after
another made no difference for the longest time. Now granted this was back before
the concept I've been referring to about timed boss battles = a caring company.
Shouldn't this be fixed to a 100% drop rate by now? what part of 3 days without
sleep gives reason to allow this to continue? please change this to 100% drop rate.
------------
Dynamis: (Problem #4 and solution within)
This is very simple, 500k fee to enter and only 2x a week entry? Seriously..
how about more like 50k? maybe even 100k max? and what about once a day entry
instead? If you won't change drop rates improve entry times AND fees to give people
more chances.
------------
World Transfer: (Problem #5 and solution within + new idea! #1)
Seriously $25 to transfer to another server? (most of?) this process is automated
anyways! I think $5 is a more reasonable fee here, keep the wait time to do
another transfer but fix the fee, while we're at it lets take a lesson from a neighbor
and allow race changes too for the same price an make a 10$ combo to do both.
------------
Monthly Fee's: (Problem #6 and solution within)
$12.95 a month is ok if your going to improve support and actually take feedback from
us players but when you double charge the next 1st of the month that can really
mess up some budgets for people when they look at their bank statements. Lets
take a lesson from a neighbor again ok? a particular neighbor has a pay system setup
to allow from the day you play your charged up until a true 30 days later from that
day. I'm not sure what you need to make this happen but it'd be a good idea to use
and very soon at that.
Monthly Fee's: (Problem #7 and solution within)
What could be wrong now your company might ask. Well.. it just so happens that if
you didn't listen to problem #6 and it's solution then this still applies! Behold if
someone joins the game even one day before the end of the month they are still
charged the full subscription amount for the month! There isn't even a refund option
in this case or a means of getting it fixed to a pro-rated amount! See solution in
problem #6 to correct this measure in my opinion or else do something about this!
-------------
Sound Issue: (Problem #8)
I recently noticed that this actually came up as a topic in the Developer responses
or whatever on the main site. They declined to even TRY! how hard would it be to
enable POL to have an option to disable the music playing at the login screens both
POL and FFXI?? Seriously we do PAY YOUR COMPANY or what? we don't pay you
enough to handle this little issue? I think something can be worked out here, get
ahold of me personally if you need to SE, you have my phone number somewhere.
-------------
New Idea #2 - Very simple name change $2.00 once every 6 months but no less than
3 months, take your pick on this time frame SE (Square Enix).
New Idea #3 - Auto translate functions be served from a server to reduce the amount
of data stored on the user end. This allows for the expansion of this service.
-------------
Moogle Lotto (Problem #9)
I know that it's a lotto, great idea and all.. but you should add the items from your
real life events. Moogle Rod, Moogle Shield, Nomad versions, all of those items.
Moogle caps included.
And don't make them rank 1 - 2 -3 prizes.. give people a break.. Rank 4 or 5 (preferably
5 so someone feels like they've WON something).
Also make those statues or something the consolation prize an improve the exp
given from exp scrolls not just for the lotto but whenever used seriously.
-------------
Problem #10 -
For the love of this game please please! end PS2 support! I know this might be asking
or suggesting alot on this one.. but seriously.. consider the potential if you'd just
listen to me on this one.
You could offer so much in changes if you would do this. There are so many ways your
company could get around the complaints of users not wanting to upgrade to a PS3/4
(whenever 4 comes out). There's all sorts of ways to go about this from offering free
software download/installs to the PS2 users who bought the game already when they
switch to the new console. You can add in-game item bonuses to this.
I'm sure there are ways to get tax breaks or whatever is equivalent to this in japan.
I say this because you could give small discounts to users switching when they buy
pre-owned consoles from stores like gamestop an maybe to new consoles too? prolly
not but it's an idea.
The rest of this idea gets into marketing strategies an etc, that being said I'm not
giving those out for free. Call me or something if your company is interested in that.
Otherwise seriously consider the PS2 thing here ok? you could just do what Microsoft
does and claim an "end of support" thing based on the life line of the hardware an all.
--------------
Magian Trials (Problem #11)
During my experience recently chasing wind weather in Aht Urhgan for Puk kills I
noticed there wasn't any for the longest time ever, it seemed to be related to wither
or not the Astral Candescense (forgive spellings please) was recovered.
Since when is the weather required to bow to an item's presence? at least make
this objective possible in another area and while your at it fix the rate of days where
weather can be windy? So many times for other areas of my trial I'd go to an area
an get 3 days of nothing or lightning or whatever an then another 3 whole days
and another whole 3 days of nothing. This complaint might seem unrealistic when
compared to the expectations of how normal real weather behaves but this is
still a game right? we still care about how much time one spends here right?
--------------
Exp Gain Pre-level 30 (Problem #12)
Abyssea gives very nice exp gain, what do people have pre-30 level equivalent?
Fields of Valor perhaps? great idea I suppose if groups of players were in the
numbers of back in 2003-4 when you couldn't find a monster to kill because
they were all being taken by the hundreds of other parties.
Something needs to be worked out for the solo style, something more new
player friendly to promote reason to stay & play, something
simple yet FF11-ish if anyone understands.

After upgrading to 5 AF3 +2 Gear for Summoner...The % of Augment: Blood Boon is only 5% for damage....I feel that I have wasted my time after all this hard work to only see a 5% proc rate.

@ Soundwave - Truely I would be upset after so many years to have to go through your issue..
I feel for you. This was however something that could've been prevented if they'd have actually
started listening to people like me an you sooner.
However AF3's invention was intended to surpass AF2 I'm sure.. sadly I do not foresee them
compensating you. They could however listen to my suggestions an prevent this from
continuing though!

I don't think so. My original post is aimed at things SE needs to consider

Before I forget.. @ Ustav - since your post wasn't found officially trolling
by SE to be removed like the other guy beneath you there. I'll give you some
kinda response. I don't think you read anything I even posted to say such a thing
or perhaps you just got here an don't understand enough to say that (this is aimed

Actually, the weather is based on FFXI's in-game seasons. Vanadiel has Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall, just like a real world. You were probably just in the zone at the wrong time of year for windy weather.

@Dynamis:
Drop rates have been increased at least 3 or 4 times now that I can remember. I leeched my Rdm to 90 a couple months ago and I already have a Duelist's Chapeau, Tabard, and +1 feet (never bothered lotting legs/hands). The more mobs you clear, the more stuff will drop per run. Not that it particularly matters anyways since Xarc is going to be overhauled, but there was really no need to mess with the drop rates again anyways.
Dynamis is also a group event, or at least it was originally intended to be. The glass price used to be 1 million gil. They cut it in half years ago to coincide with the reduction of gil inflation. They are already removing the per-entry fee from City and Icelands dynamis, leaving the 500k/run system intact for CoP only. This is not a valid complaint. It is not hard to get gil.
@Lotto Spawns and Drop rates:
I stopped counting at 0/100 for Mee Deggi the Punisher. It doesn't really bother me, because I realized at that point that I could have just farmed the gil for the non-R/EX version in less than half the time I spent camping them. Lottery spawns can suck, drop rates can suck. That doesn't mean they need an update. It just means you had some bad luck. Don't stay up for 3 days straight and then complain about it later. You're not Rukenshin, and Mysticmaker Profblix is not Pandemonium Warden.
@World Transfer and Service Fees:
Transferring worlds is a pain in the butt for them. The fee is there both to discourage people who would jump around from server to server whenever they felt like it, and to help cover maintenance costs for the system itself. Also, the service fees are simply the price they have set for their product. If you don't like that price, do not pay for it. If you continue to pay that price for the product, you must feel that the product is worth the price. Yes, double charging happens, and it's a hassle to dispute it. If you feel their customer service is lacking, do not continue to buy the product.
@Weather
It has already been mentioned that the rarity of certain weather types in areas of Vana'diel is directly related to the in-game season. There are dry seasons and rainy seasons, and generally all types of weather are predisposed towards certain seasons over others. SE has already reduced the burden of weather trials by making all Weather-positive kills worth 5 Trial Credits. There is no real need to mess with them any further.
Edit: I love that quote, by the way. "The plural of anecdote is not data". It describes these forums so well.

While I do not agree with many of your proposed solutions, I fully agree that PS2 support needs to be phased out. Current PS2 users should be given several months notice and given free PC versions of all the content they currently own. Any computer made in the last 6 or more years can play FFXI, and if you do not own a computer or cannot afford a $150 computer to play it on you shouldn't be playing FFXI anyway.
If they dropped PS2 support, upgraded the interface and graphics to HD resolutions, released a new expansion, and made a more convenient account/billing system FFXI could make a huge comeback. Of course this won't happen because they stupidly decided to make a product that competes with another product they own and splits the user base.

Otherwise seriously consider the PS2 thing here ok? you could just do what Microsoft
does and claim an "end of support" thing based on the life line of the hardware an all.

Holy Greatguardian backlash, not sure how you took his thoughts to be a personal attack on you.
Why so serious?
In all seriousness, you really are experiencing shitty luck, esp. w/ dynamis and NMs. Some of the ideas I can agree with (weather trials are ridiculous sometimes), but there has to be some sort of challenge in the game. Not everything can be spoonfed to everyone...
Challenge does not equal a massive, outrageous time investment. Challenge means battles that require preparation, knowledge of the game, strategy, and good timing. Killing the same monsters for years to get an item is just a cheap way of artificially extending how long it takes to acquire good gear. It's outrageous and is what stops many people from playing the game. I they should focus on making challenging, interesting encounters to get good gear instead of just making the drop rate so low that people never get items and end up leaving the game or feeling like they can't compete.
I know all you old school players are against this philosophy, but a game should be fun and challenging without making unrealistic demands on your time. I've been playing XI on and off since the US release and I've found it to be better each time because they are realizing how outrageous some of the stuff in the game was and made it a lifestyle and not a video game.

if you can get everything so easy whould you want to come back after geting it first try?
In a game you should be doing what you enjoy, and you should be getting what you want. If you like salvage and want relic armor, you should be able to either get relic armor first, then go do salvage (needs high drop rate), or you need to be able to get relic armor from doing salvage (like pay alexandrite to buy them at a NPC).
The worst way is forcing you to do 10 years of boring dynamis just so you can enjoy Salvage.
PS. This example is rather poor since you are naked in Salvage and getting gear first won't make that huge a difference except key pieces.

Yes, just with no mention of the costs apart from it being `low`. This thread is now over 2 weeks old, was bumped a week after creation by the OP, and should be erased from history altogether if it continues to get bumped.

Wow, you have some rather creative idea's (force NM spawns). But drops rates increased? You want everything to be on easy mode & solo able. That is not what FFXI was made for in the first place. If you have been playing as long as you say you have been & have this many problems with the game, why would you keep playing?
I can not see SE taking your suggestions seriously, they have done a lot to the game already to make it easier & if they do anymore to it everyone will have the same equipment (they almost already do with how easy AF3 +1/2 is to get). Then what fun is the game?
If you remove the challenge out of the game environment it will ruin the game completely. I personally play for the fact I am unable to complete everything in a couple sittings. I believe a lot of people enjoy the fact it takes time for you to achieve goals in this game, which you get rewarded for with a great piece of gear, or upgrade item.
I can understand the frustration of going 0/100 on something and can see that maybe it should be like a 1 in 25 guarantee drop, that way if you do not get it your first 15 tries you know you will have it within the next 10 attempts.
As for Dynamis they have improved it a lot already. I would like to see them maybe make it that if you do win the zone you should be guaranteed that at least 1 of all gear dropped, 1 good currency & maybe 1 upgrade item. This would make the entrance fee more suitable and allow people to achieve there gear in a 6 month period not 3 year period. I do Dynamis now with only 6 of us and we do awesome. This alone increases the chance of me getting the gear I need.
On another note, SE should think about upgrading the Dynamis/Gods gear. Make new sets & this would turn the game back around to what it was like 3 years ago. End game shells would be back alive & everyone would have something to strive for, rather then only having to work a few weeks to get there empy. finished.

@ Soundwave - Let me try to understand this.. I report someone for
flaming/bashing/making unwelcome comments and I'm the bad-guy?
I don't think so. My original post is aimed at things SE needs to consider
at the very least.
Before I forget.. @ Ustav - since your post wasn't found officially trolling
by SE to be removed like the other guy beneath you there. I'll give you some
kinda response. I don't think you read anything I even posted to say such a thing
or perhaps you just got here an don't understand enough to say that (this is aimed
at your "years" playing btw).
I have a name, and my post was not removed because I was not trolling haha, I read your novel it has good ideas however I don't think my post needed to be bashed upon because you are somebody better?
"However AF3's invention was intended to surpass AF2 I'm sure.. sadly I do not foresee them
compensating you. They could however listen to my suggestions an prevent this from
continuing though!"
This just leaves a bitter taste the way you said it. As I said you are not better than anybody else that makes post on these threads.

all i can say is wow, and i feel for you but really c'mon. changing all that changes the game and there not going to call you for ideas. i am an old school person and raised old fashion and that means if i want something i work at it till its mine, but if you just want everything to work specifically for you well then i would recommend finding a free MMO.

Rdm for the longest time was the only job that got a refresh head piece and body piece. Also it always seemed like everyone and thier brother had 75rdm making the wait for that gear longer. Gil has always been easy to get, silk tread, mats for nin tools, food all sold and some still sell well. Now though gil is so easy to get you don't even have go out your way. Really you can get over a mil in bout 30 mins. Don't get me wrong I understand some of the anger I been after homam hands for 3 years and just got them bout a month ago. I know they are not the most in demand piece of limbus gear, but for me they either didnt drop or drop on the runs I missed cause of RL.

There is a difference between problems and things you dislike.
That being said dyna is being change (said after you made ya post)
Fees are fine FFXI is still adjusting and expanding the game
World transfer is fine at $25 because it can be used to make large amounts of gil.
Charater name thing . No thx only because if someone scams or trolls they can't just change name and repeat.
anyway it's too many topic for 1 thread so i'll leave it at that instead of an essay.
One thing i will agree on is that SE can do something about the login music on PC (not ps2) really it's not even that hard considering there is already a way to do it (replace dat).

Easy 480k crour is over 1mil and toss in dom notes which really not used for anything but screens it easy. Though the trade off is you give up 2 and almost a half brews but in your case neo would be better to get your spells.

So I walk thru here after a long break an what do I find? trolls..
lots of them.. mostly kids whining about this or that.
How I'm wrong about this or that an their opinion as to it all.
Lets review something shall we? SE dictated awhile back that
no boss fight should exceed 2 or 3 real life hours.
That being said.. no item hunt should exceed a month of real
time to acquire if SE is serious about their concept for placing
the rule about the time limit on boss battles. They claim
something along the lines of a game being just that "just a game"
an how they've no intentions to see suffering of this or that kind.
Clearly the "definition" on what "suffering" is an the "level" is being
taken differently from person to person here. It however does not
invoke the right of anyone else to tell me my ideas are crap,
worthless, etc.
I'm saying when it comes to item drop rates, certain monsters are
not giving within a reasonable time frame, sure make it challenging
but give some hints if it's going to be hard on some level. Don't
we get something like this in abyssea for colored procs? It's
just an idea on that note.
Everyone loves to say it's all just a game.. well alright then..
make the rules equal to one! nothing should take years an years
of real time to acquire from a "GAME".
What is so hard to understand about that?? it's not being
"spoonfed" to demand for a game to BE a game.

That being said.. no item hunt should exceed a month of real
time to acquire
Which non-relic/mythic item requires more than one month to complete?
Note: you must be playing the source of this item on a reasonable basis (eg no "Xarc drops suck because we only do it once per month).

Well you don't, as my systematic dissection of your posts in the "SE doesn't give a darn about FFXI anymore..." thread pointed out on a number of occasions in a straightforward and thought-out manner. Besides which, it's not just that people think that it's 'dumb', i.e. against their ideas, but that most of us recognize the "this isn't easy enough for me" or "I am a dissatisfied minority" posts and simply point out a logical and simple explanation to counter them. Of course, there are the trolls that just turn it into a large-scale joke to your discredit (not that help is needed there) but for the most part, many of us are just pointing out that you're doing the same thing, yelling at us for disagreeing with you.
Now, to avoid a derail (much as I feel this topic deserves one, I prefer not to change subjects too much) let me address the OP regarding each of their points/problems listed at the beginning of this thread that I feel I can respond to, as Greatguardian tried to do before you tore him down much in the same manner as Krystal does when someone disagrees in a well-mannered and polite response.
Problem #1 - Xarc drop rates
As a player who has also seen Xarc drops pre- and post-update, I feel this has been fixed. In the last run I went on, four Dchaps dropped (and naturally I didn't win even one of them. :( ) along with two pairs of TH hands, not to mention the other amazing number of other AF drops. I don't think anyone went home emptyhanded except for those who tossed the extra stuff no one wanted. My point is that the drop rates are fine; you may have been unlucky, but with the drop rates as they are now, you should easily be seeing a lot of AF. Keep at it, the patch has made it a lot easier!
Problem #2 - Camped this guy too for a while before just giving in and buying the dang pact. x_x That being said, if you were keeping a "vigilant watch" on the other NMs, that meant you were constantly moving between the different camps, and it's possible that someone might have snagged him or happened to have snagged one of the other three by chance. Unfortunately that's just more bad luck that you can't do much about. Also don't forget that he is a true lottery spawn - there are instances of completely horrible bad luck, because with this system, the mob has a % chance of spawning in place of the PH. Let's say it was... oh, 10%, as a given example. For each of the PHs you could have had sheer bad luck because you can hit anywhere in the range of 11-100 instead of 1-10. That's just lotto pop NMs for you!
Problem #3 - Um... correct me if I'm wrong, but going for three days without sleep was your fault. As it is, that's just completely terrible luck. x_x I was lucky enough that I was bored on my BST and went to get it for a Primal Rend setup, he just happened to be up and boom, 1/1 on the earring. I had a friend go like 0/23 on him before finally getting a drop though, so sometimes it's just bad luck...
Problem #4 - As you stated, this was before the "Dynamis Reborn" thread, so I'll leave this be.
Jumping ahead a bit, policy's not my strong point...
Problem #9 - This one is just a "gimme gimme" problem. You're asking them to just hand you something for absolutely nothing on your part, while people went to actual real events and took the time in order to get these things. By saying "just give it to me" you pretty much just said "screw y'all, I want what you've got so I don't care what you did to get it." My apologies for being so straightforward but that's how I'm seeing it.
Problem #11 - Weather is based purely on the seasons of the game, m'friend. I've noticed the trend in Aht Urghan for wind weather seems to come up most during the spring seasons (April-June Vana'diel time, use /clock to check the in-game date) so when I see that we're coming up to that part of the year I tend to put down whatever I'm doing to get my trials done because I know weather will be very common for an area that a lot of evasion trials use. If I don't care to wait for the weather? I simply go somewhere on Windsday. So it's one objective a kill, I finished a few trials back before they even made the changes to weather, I can endure them again.

One thing I will never understand are posters who oscillate between "Abyssea made everything easy, no one earns levels and players suck" and "Dynamis drop rates suck, make it easier to get stuff".
Like, they really should be mutually exclusive points. I don't get it.
The OP's complaints about just about everything just reek of crap. "Wah it took me 7 years to get a RDM hat". Is that because of the game? Or because of you / your linkshell? I've had RDM90 for, I don't know, 3 months now and I have a Duelist's Chapeau. A friend of mine just came back from the game after a 3 year break, leeched THF from 60 to 90 (ignoring his previous 75s of Rdm and Rng), and got Assassin Armlets free lot with my shell after like a month =/. Shit's not hard.
Lottery spawns. They suck. So what? New content has been moving further and further away from the bullshit that was Rise of the Zilart 72-hour NMs and PH/lottery spawns. Timed spawns in Abyssea respawn every 15 minutes, and everything else is force popped. ZNMs are all force popped. VNMs are all force popped. Voidwalkers look to be force popped. Is Leaping Lizzie really relevant enough in 2011 to warrant a change?
Drop rates. These suck too. Get over it. Abyssea's Weakness Trigger system has been the best thing to happen to the game's drop rates in 10 years. Thief has received huge TH bonuses as well. If you want something to drop, you can now manipulate the NM and make it drop. The game is moving forward. I could care less about the fact that I'm 0/100+ on Mee Deggi the Punisher, and 0/50+ on Poisonhand Gnagdag. Btw, I threw away my Moldavite Earring the second I finished my Novio/Hecate's pair :).
Good lord. It's just completely ass-backwards to see the "Anti-leech" crowd complaining about time sinks. It's okay to make players level up at 5k exp/hour, but it's not okay to make them actually clear Dynamis zones with TH if they want drops? It's not like drop rates are low any more, either. My shell's basically been flooring Dyna-Tav drops that aren't THF hands or RDM hat. Heck, our last Hydra Haubert went to a guy who just leveled WAR like last week (no PLD at all), because we've gotten so many of them. I still have a screenshot of two Hauberts in the same pool, and it used to be one of the rarest drops in the entire game (my shell had something like the 3rd on our entire server waaay back in the day).
Skill affects your ability to get drops out of zones more than anything else. If you aren't clearing the zone, you're wasting potential drops. If you go in with too many people, you're screwing yourself by having to compete with 30 other people for drops. If you're wiping, or dying, or are unable to handle more than 1 Eye at a time, you're wasting time and potential drops.
There's nothing wrong with a game that rewards players with IQs greater than potato.
Edit: D'oh, beaten while I was typing this out.
