From XBox to PC

Hello all. I've been trying to get back into the game, I'm an XBox user. But for some reason I keep getting d/c after a couple minutes every time I login. I've gone through port forwarding and that hasn't helped any.

So I'm thinking about switching over to the PC to see if that helps any. My question is, since I've already got the game on the XBox do I have to buy the PC version? Or is there somewhere that I can download the game for free since I already have it on the XBox?

If you don't already have the game installed on your computer you will have to buy a PC version or borrow the disks from a friend or something. You won't need a new registration code or anything, since you already have an account, but you need either a physical or a digital copy of the game in order to install it.

Unfortunately, SE doesn't offer free legal downloads of the game client. You can probably find it using less-than-legal means, or you can just buy a second copy and have a mule account if the money is not important.

You will require a PC version to install it onto your system, but you're account is your account regardless of where you login. Installing onto a PC version dose not require a new version or new ID/codes, a used version of the disks will install just fine and you can login as per the norm.

On another note, if you buy the ultimate collection, you'll get the fancy hat.

That's kind of what I thought. At least the game is only $10. Guess I'll just have a copy and extra codes :)

I would love to recommend the Steam version, but you would have to miss out on the helm (unless you wanna buy that one extra). Steam actually offers a legal download of the PC client, no more discs to carry around, saved to your Steam account and you can redownload it at high speeds on as many PCs as you want. As I said, the only drawback is you'll miss out on the helm.

LOL, that figures. I just started the download from Steam. Oh well I guess, it's just a helmet.

Here's another question though. On the XBox I had all of the expansions and 2 of the Moogle scenarios. The New Collection has all of the Moogle Scenarios. Does each scenario come with it's own Content key through the download? Or is there just one key for all packs and scenarios?

I'm pretty sure it's just one code, but you can use it on your existing account to unlock the remaining content.

Can correct me if I'm wrong though, I've never tried it myself.

That's correct, one key that can be used on an existing account to unlock the remaining expansions (bar Abyssea, in the Steam case).

Ok. Just finished the download, but apparently there is no way to log in with my SquareEnix info in the PlayOnline Viewer. I've checked all the settings, there are no boxes for it.

I'm able to login to PlayOnline with just my PlayOnline info, but I keep getting a POL-5312 error. So far it seems like it still runs normally though, I'm updating FFXI right now. Will that error cause me problems?

I'm not sure really. I had it myself a while ago, I thought I was hacked, because I couldn't log on after trying for a while, even resetting all my PWs. But as soon as I had a friend report it to a GM, I managed to log on again. No typo, same name, same PW. Maybe server was just busy/buggy, don't know. Should see if it goes away after a while I guess.

You still have to use both PoL ID and password. SE account is only needed if you are using a token. To use that once you you add the member its down at the bottom it ask you to enter the SE ID and if you ant to use the one time password. No way to just use you SE ID to log in.
