View Full Version : Fields of Valor in Aht Urhgan areas

Title says it all really. I loved the addition of Fields of Valor and I think it's great for casual play. I think that the recent update of not limiting to one page per game day makes it even better. It added life to areas that people hardly went to, Cape Terriggan was such a dead zone before it became one of the best places to do pages.
The problem I have is that when you're soloing or duoing, there isn't really any incentive to do it in any ToAU areas and it seems a shame that those zones are being so neglected recently. People who level in partys seem to do it through Abyssea, and people wanting to level out of Abyssea are stuck in Zilart zones to do it effectivly. I thought that there were very few people who leveled outside of Abyssea now but that was proven wrong when me and a friend were duoing and had to run around the zone to find the monsters because 4 other groups were doing the same page.
I just think that more options to level, and in some of what I think are the best designed zones in the game, might add to people not wanting to trade keys for the last 20 levels before you can do anything useful in an Abyssea party. Might make some of the good FoV pages less crowded too.
Was hoping Grounds of Valor would be this, and while it is a good system from what we know so far, it's limited to Zilart zones again.

Predictions for this thread: It's going to be open season for people who key whore Abyssea, telling you to not waste the developers time adding pointless content, when there are already superior ways of leveling up.
I wish you luck my friend.

But it's not wasted content. Like I said, you have to fight over monsters on a lot of good FoV zones because there are lots of people doing the pages. Zi'Tah/Altepa for mid range have lots of people doing the pages on my server. Terriggan/Ro'Maeve/Ru'Aun have lots of higher level people doing the pages. It's not wasted content when the places it's being implimented in get use. All I'm saying is give more variation and choice. It seems a waste to let ToAU zones go as unused as they are now and adding Field Manuals will make people go there more.

Oh no, I didn't say your idea is bad. It's an alright idea actually.
I'm just stating my predictions for this thread, based on my past experience with posts. Just seems like the common trend throughout the forums.

some of the pro aby XP be happy if they can FoV while doing magian in AU zones, farm KS (new Faf/beh/ada pop), lvl npc etc

I'd like to see FoV in ToAU too, but I don't think that should happen before CoP. (And it's honestly shocking to me CoP area's still don't have FoV)

Actually, I would expect this to be on the menu, probably via the new Grounds of Valor system, just not in this update because they can only add so much at one time. GoV does demonstrate a commitment to the system on the dev's part. What I really hope for is an extension of the Kupowers to ToAU and Campaign areas.
the sanction exp bonus isn't as good as FoV right beside some juicy available prey... but it saves time of running around getting pages and seeking out annoying to find monsters....

Well, with the exp boost, you can get anywhere between 20-30k exp/hr on birds if you do a level cap. Just keep chaining those mobs!

"With" the exp boost? No, it was possible to get that BEFORE the exp boost.

Have the ToAU areas ever really been utilized? Outside of colibri, puks, crawlers and imps the only other times people actually camped in ToAU was for merit parties. Almost all the zones in ToAU got little to no use to start with. The mobs are simply too annoying to bother with most the time.

ZNMs and by extension: Pankration. You're not that wrong though. Arrapago Reef comes to mind when i think of places I've never really done anything in.

Trolls were a last resort merit spot. Would love more FoV area's ToAU would be great. Getting tabs while doing trials and getting KSs is win any way you think bout it.

Yeah you can get great experience in a party, but Fields of Valor is more for solo play. I'd like to know how people can get that much experience in any area solo really. Just think it'd be a nice addition to leveling out of Abyssea since partys aren't as easy to come by as they once were.

Nope.
Most, if not all, the people who have no problem with players leveling from 30 to 90 in Abyssea are the same people who appreciate multiple options for leveling and encourage players to level however they'd like. It's fantastic to be free of the bonds of 4k/hour crab parties. Options are awesome.
If someone wants to level from 1 to 90 doing FoV solo or in duos, more power to them.
With that being said, it's not a bad idea at all for SE to consider adding FoV books to ToAU areas. The areas are no longer heavily trafficked, and a sizable percentage of ToAU's mobs, in terms of level, location, and distribution, could slide seamlessly into FoV's current 'dead zone' between 55ish and 70ish.

I'd like to see manuals in Aht Urghan areas as well. Those are my favorite areas in the game and with so few people partying in those areas anymore (and me not wanting to leech in Abyssea) I'd like a boost to soloing or teaming up there. It'd help revitalize ToAU and make it easier to gain experience (not to mention Imperial Standing) in a wider variety of areas and with different monsters.
As for the following, agree or disagree with me all you want. I'm just getting my two-cents in.
If I were the developers who worked on ToAU and WotG I'd be sad and disappointed after seeing what's become of those expansions after all that terrific work. The minimum entry level of 30 to Abyssea was a mistake in my opinion. It practically killed WotG and ToAU. With numbers like these it's hard to refute; on numerous occasions and on different days of the week I've done searches of all the WotG and ToAU fields and dungeons and generally the total number of people in each of those expansions has been between 20 to 30 people. On one particular day when I searched there was a total of 45 people soloing or partying (I believe there was only one full party) in both WotG and ToAU, while there was well over 1100 characters logged on.
I still enjoy Abyssea but I will not leech to level to up, nor do I enjoy level syncing repeatedly in Qufim and West Altepa, to which are the areas I get the bulk of invites. I liked the variety of areas I got to party in to get to level 75 and still do. This isn't just about getting to 90+ with incredibly gimped skills. I had to go skill up outside of experience point parties prior to Abyssea. I'm just disappointed Square Enix allowed such an imbalance to occur in the game content. Allowing one aspect of the game to overshadow such a large portion of quality content.
It's also made quite a negative impact on crafting. One look at the lack of equipment for low to mid level jobs on the auction house speaks for itself.

I think this is a good idea, and what's more, i'll bet SE is going to do it. They have hinted at expanding this to other areas.
Repatration is great. It would be nice to see it at staging points, and other places.

I think we should be able to solo more and more in this game, and I think we should be able to solo absolutely everything in FFXI, Bar-None. Actually the best idea is to take FFXI offline, and just implement a chat program into the game. We can talk to eachother about what we're doing, sort of like twitter.

Thank you for this post. It sums up my own feelings exactly. I am not anti-Abyssea, I like it a lot, however, there are a lot of people who just cannot or don't want to spend half a day or more everyday in an Abyssea party/seal farming/boss killing etc., so the opportunity to quietly solo/duo outside Abyssea is welcomed. I am in favor of FoV in ToAU areas. In the words of Jean Luc Picard aka Horst "make it so." :)

Put them in CoP areas first. They have better scenery.
