(I know this forum is for site feedback, but was a little sketchy on where to put this one. If it's due elsewhere, apologies, and please move the thread).
While i'm an avid PC player, I do travel a lot and find myself with a lot of spare time during my trips. Unfortunately, my laptop doesn't care much for FFXI and i'm not exactly keen on fielding the prospect of coughing up some serious money for a new one to play the game. However, I do have my Xbox 360.
It's small enough to go with me to the places I go, and it's a good boredom buster. However, i'd like to play FFXI on it too.
Looking into it, I can obtain a PAL copy of the game (with expansions up to ToAU) without any issue. However, I can never find a copy of the Ultimate Edition (2008) copy or a copy of the Wings of the Goddess stand-alone expansion pack.
I've tried all manner of gaming shops and websites, Amazon, eBay, posting on forums, asking around, and everything has drawn to a blank. I just cannot find a copy of the game with WoTG or the stand-alone expansion.
While I wouldn't mind missing out WoTG, the unfortunate truth is that the Abyssea add-ons require that expansion pack to function. As pretty much everything in the game currently occurs there, it's a huge chunk of the experience to be missing out on.
Is there not any way that expansion packs can be downloaded along with updates or sold on the Square-Enix website exclusively? Or that the new Ultimate Collection: Abyssea Edition could be released on the Xbox 360 'Games on Demand' service? This would solve the entire issue, as well as promoting FFXI to the download-gamer audience.
I know it's a lot of HDD space, but heck, Xbox 360 hard drives in every size are ten-thousand times more readily available than this expansion pack!
Being a UK player, as it stands, I can never play WoTG or enjoy the Abyssea content on my Xbox 360, or anything else in the future that requires WoTG be installed. Others may have this issue also. It's a bit cruel to force the hottest new content to the game to require an expansion pack that we rarely ever see in this country, where simply allowing expansions to be downloaded or bought via the 'Games on Demand' service would resolve this in relatively short order, as well as potentially generating more sales and players.
