Make more job-specific quests that expand upon the 20 Job's storylines. Maybe for DRG explore more about the history of Dragoons and their usage throughout Vana'diel History. Or for BLM expand on how Black Magic came to be, for Blue Mages expand on their creation and experimentation etc.. Rewards could be unlocking a new spell or ability, trait or weapon skill.

Or tier 3 merits? :P
I'd like this! Like a higher-level quest (though still soloable) like level 75~

Though, I'd also like to see them force players to limit their 'main' job to 1 or 2... rather than all these "I'm level 90 on everything but ___ and ___" Maybe like those job specific quests could in fact be 1 quest, and that job gets the power-up. And for you to get more from another job, you could re-do the quest, losing that previous power up and getting it for the job you then want as your main. And definitely not be any make-or-break Must-have spell or job ability, but just a chic thing people can "oooh" over because you've dedicated yourself to That job.

i want us to prove ourselves further like fighting a master of the job as the jobs pre ahrtugan do i assume they could find better to fight for those who have had to prove themselves post ahrtugan

I like it a lot. XIV already offers class-specific quests and storylines, XI does it in a similar sense for AF quests. It would be nice if this could be expanded. The SCH storyline was amazing, I would love to see more of and like that.

I'm not sure i like that idea.

Everything done in FFXI to date has been centered around allowing players to fully access to the content of every job. We're not pigeon holded to 1 job like in that game.

No ones going to force you to level multiple jobs, but those of us who do have multiple jobs and enjoy being able to flexibly participate in an event shouldn't be punished by only being able to access 1 job out of 20's "extra" content. Just seems kind of petty.

If they introduced Job-Specific Quests, Players should be able to access that content to its fullest if they desired too.

The obvious ones:

PLD = Curillia, Serpent General Rughadjeen
SAM = Ayame
RNG = Semih LeFinah, Serpent General Najelith
THF Nana Migho
BLM = Shantotto, Serpent General Gadalar
DRK = Zeid
MNK = Prishe, Serpent General Zazarg
BRD = Ulmia
WHM = Serpent General Mihli
DRG = (Can't really fight Cyranuce since he's the lvl 30 unlock fight, I now know why he sought the power of the Dragon....WotG San D'oria story / questline done)
SCH = Prof. Schultz (unless you fight him for the lb 5 fight)
DNC = Would really like it to be Lillisette, but for Spoilery reasons that may not be possible.
SMN = Karaha-Baruha
BLU = Balarahn (Before he turned into something only an Illithid would date)

You get the idea.....

Definitely, with a final reward like tier 3 merits, new traits or abilities, but each quest a new artifact armor item, meant to upgrade original AF to level 95-99 versions. Will remove Abyssea from centerfocus of the game, and return it to the "extra content" all other Expansions and Add-on Scenarios were meant to be.

May/may not require AF to be +1, depending on what SE thinks.

We discussed your ideas with the development team, however, this will require quite a bit of manpower and will not be possible right away.

It would be nice to see some more job specific quests that would flesh out the world even a bit more.

I would definitely like to see the job stories continued a bit more, this should be considered for "down the road."

Give me a list of what to do. Give me a corner to sleep in. Give me ramen to eat. I'll work for free.

Looking into the near future, after the current timetable is done, would it be possible to look into this again? Besides battling and getting gear, the real fun of the game comes from its engrossing storyline and the demystification of Vana'diel's lore. Most updates in the past 3 years dealt with battle gameplay,job adjustments. But what about those that seek more storyline?

If this happens, it needs to be done like the original Maat fights where it is a beast and you feel like you really accomplished something by doing it. Capped skills, knowledge of the job (no aby 99's flying through this fight), and solo (no subjob maybe just like the original Maat fight?) is an absolute must to beat it. I wanna hear some whining about how hard it is!!!!

Maybe as a secondary bonus (outside of JA/WS/Spell) a cool house decoration for your MH for bragging rights as well. they could also give a job specific bonus (like the mog house aura) to the job when you have it set as the main job Examples:

DRG: Wyvern Perch - when in your MH, your Wyvern will be sitting on perch and maybe fly off it a little. Bonus to wyvern HP or jump damage bonus

SAM: Katana Stand - traditional 3 katana set (maybe skinned to look like Tenzens Pheonix?) on a stand. Bonus to Zanshin rate/damage

PUP: Automaton Display Stand - Your automaton will be displayed in your MH. Bonus to Auto stats/accuracies

MNK: Zen Shrine - a small shrine with burning incense and a bell (that rings?) to help center Chi. Bonus to counter/kick rates and damage

SCH: Adventurers Chronicles - Book on a stand that allows the player to watch any CS's they have experienced from their MH (maybe change their title?). Bonus to white/black magic skills or form/storm bounses.

BRD: Phonograph - A record player that allows you to pick and play from a selection of FFXI music in your MH. Bonus to all musical skill ratings (why they only have C skill ratings in all music is beyond me).

SMN: Astral Projector - a small projector (think like a small hologram) that cycles through your available summons (avatars/spirits). Bonus to recast delay/elemental siphon/perp cost.

These are just a few I came up with real quick. I think that beating a fight like this is the equal to capping out a craft as much as it needs to have something to show off your accomplishments!!

SCH one is probably not possible. The menu alone would probably break the game.
BRD one is already in the game, except you get a random song rather then a chosen on.

THF: Burglar's Tools - Steal, Mug and Despoil +1.

(Mug+1 adds 1 Gil mugged)

Because you know, THF Can never get anything worthwhile, or FFXI as we know it would implode backwards.

But on a serious note, I really like that idea. Wyvern Item needs to be changed, as, a quick search of FFXIAH will tell you, Wyvern Perch is the name of a Staff. However, the idea of this is all really nice. And that being, Job Specific/Oriented Furniture.

Also, there is already a "Sword display set" - its a Smithing(?) Crafting recipe. - And a BRD Phonograph, Its a player of some sort, Got it with some book or Vana'fest or something.

P.S - BRD has a C in skill because when using an Instrument, It combined both Singing + Wind/String skill together for your total M.acc - So they technically have an "S" Rank, well beyond normal A+.

Also, If i had to make one for ever Job?

There's my ideas.

Any plans or updates to this? It's been almost 4 years. Would be refreshing to have more job quests that give job specific rewards like a special ability or a spell or piece of very good job specific equipment.

There's far too many jobs. In effect they would be creating a lot of content that not everyone would see. Not everyone plays something like PUP for example, and creating an entire questline just for PUP would be a piece of content that only a fraction of the players would ever see. With how many jobs there are, there will be a lot of this.

The development team would better spend their efforts on content that everyone can enjoy, not content that only specific jobs can enjoy. And, yes, before you say something like "but most jobs can't participate in end game", working on balancing the jobs is included in things that they should better spend their time on.

i think this is not a bad idea..

the dev team can spend time working on battle content fine, but they also know that content needs to be made to cater to those who follow the lore and who might actually like more story, or those who RP.

I think a continuation of the AF stories would be a nice touch.. because the games been out for 12 years and i think people forget how much lore there was behind each job. For old world jobs, it'd be a nice way to go back and recall all the NPC heroes from the quest lines.. and would give more significance to players who value their Trust npcs.

If they take a page from SoA af quests, then it should also follow after G5 fight for ToA/WotG jobs.. requiring more players to do somewhat older but still fascinatingly good content for story.
