View Full Version : Sneak/Invisible mobs??? Why not?

So, it seems the mobs can and do cast every spell available to players aside from sneak and invisible. Why is that? Some should be able to cast sneak/invisible too. You could have weaker mobs using it to try to avoid you. Or NMs trying to hide from you. Or tougher mobs using it to sneak up on you. Just think of the possibilites!!
Just imagine walking along, and you see just footprints coming towards you... You think it's just another player when -BAM- it becomes visible and attacks!

Although it would be fun, too many people would cry about it.VNMs are "sort" of like this, although most people just use aps i think anymore to find them. Neat idea, but i think the amount of complaints about either not being able to find the mob or random mobs attacking would make SE not implement this. Several other games I have played have mobs that are stealth and it is soooo funny to watch someone get randomly owned when a stealth mob decides to say hello .

Manananggal, and to a lesser degree some Lumorians (Phuabo, Yovra).
Generally I'd be open to more of it if I didn't know it would cause epic amounts of rage among people.

You guys also forgot to mention Chigoes. Yeah they aren't exactly invisible, but those tiny buggers are hard to spot sometimes.

No thanks, any casting type mob level 25 and up would be invisible all the time, and if they're untargetable like Shiki then it'll suck for XP parties. Hell even if they are targetable running around trying to find them would be a huge pain in the ass.

Think of it as a RNG/BST buff. Wide Scan would become the only way to find any mobs ever. That is, until they jump you. Oh and invisible linking mobs. Bringing Fear back to Final FEantAsRy XI since MMXI.

I'm open for it just for that.

We have Fomors for that, even if you aggro them they make no sound whatsoever.

There are a few invisible tonberries in Uggalepih as well, IIRC.

Ok, so how about some new crafting items to go along with this idea, like True-Sight and/or True-Hearing potions to be able to see/hear the mobs? Then they could appear transparent like you see yourself when invisible. Or maybe some quest related items, like have Cid make you a special pair of glasses or bionic ear-muffs? Oh, and about the whole "why sneak, its a visual game" deal, I play in surround-sound, and many times I've heard a mob come up behind me.

So make everything invisible, then make a quest to make them visible again. Gotcha

um, no. Do you walk around invisible all the time, just because you have the spell? Did I ever say make everything invisible? Just select mobs should have the ability to go invisible, maybe when players near them are fighting, or something. Lower level mobs could use it to try to hide, or higher level mobs would try to do a sneak-attack, just like players sneak-pop nms.
The crafting or quest items would just be used like silent oils or prism powders. Have a limited effect, duration and range. Just thought it would be a cool idea, and thought it was kind of strange the those are basically the only spells mobs don't have that players do.

The reason why not is because if they become widespread it's mostly just going to benefit the people cheating so that they can see the mobs while the people that aren't cheating have to fight against an unfair advantage.
