View Full Version : Absolutely pointless tedium that would be trivial to solve overnight

Players who want to convert their sparks and unity accolades into gil are forced to do a completely pointless series of menu-ing tasks every single week that consists of no less than 500 inputs.

If prize powder was created as a way for players to convert unity accolades into gil, and the same thing for equipment purchasable from sparks, why would you make players have to sell DOZENS or HUNDREDS OF TINY ITEMS instead of just giving us ONE SINGLE ITEM we could just purchase to sell for the whole amount...

or, you know, godforbid just have a menu option right there that just says "convert units to gil" that bypasses the entire pointless selling to an NPC process.

Yea duh smaller amounts let players purchase who may not have the capped amount, but did you know you could have BOTH!!!!!???? Amazing right, there could be BOTH small units for players with less currency, and a single item for the capped currency amount so players arent forced to do a painfully tedious series of menuing every single week for forever the remainder of the time they play the game for!!!

Just like with entering abyssea and having to talk to 3 different NPC's 4 times just to seelect the EXACT SAME THINGS you selected EVERY SINGLE OTHER TIME YOU ENTERED THE AREA, but NOPE! There's not just 1 single button you can click to just set everything all at once, no nono thats asking WAY too much on the programmers or something, right....?????? right, right... otherwise this would be indicative of a game designer who actively hates their players and wants them to quit the game or something. And that would just be CRAZY, right????

Tedium is literally everything we do in XI

Extra clicks. Extra Menus. Extra confirmations. It's all redundant and it's all excessive and none of it is new.

It's been Menu Fantasy XI since the beginning. :p

It's the best when they alter the menus a little so that you need to remember to adjust your muscle memory to the thing.

Some of them do make me wonder a lot, like, if they forgot, or someone just figured a thing out but they never wanted to touch the previous things because we do have some things that give us the option to "give me all I can hold" and the reverse, where we can trade as many as we can trade regardless if they'll fit, but then there is the Divainy-Gamainy who can't count above 99 or something like that...

But yeah, like for the prize powder, the "give me all I can hold" or so should be very doable at least.

There's no need to be so aggressive about it.

I am so so SO sorry, PLEASE forgive me. I know using capital letters is really, REALLY scary, and I am truly sorry if this triggered your PTSD and causes you have to redo years of therapy. Clearly I'm just the crazy and aggressive one here, using CAPITAL letters to help emphasize certain words to point out an objectively asinine waste of time the programmers of my favorite game basically forces every player of their game to do on a weekly basis

It's not pointless, it is there for a reason. You just don't understand 2nd and 3rd order effects in an mmorpg with lots of other people in it. The "pointless tasks" are work, work you are doing to get "paid" in the game world.

1.The reason there is resistance / work (things you don't want to do to get the gil) is because the resistance is designed to dissuade a percentage of people from doing it, unless they have no other option. In effect they are trying to lower the number of people who do it every week (I have not done it for years, cause it's annoying and i have limited inventory space for instance).

2.The gil is created by the server, it is in effect a money printer. This is offset by gil drains when you buy things from an NPC, at its current rate.

3.If they made sparks > gil conversion simple, far more people would do it every week (and probably on mass mules) and this would cause heavy inflation due to vast amounts of gil being pushed into the economy.

4.The reason inflation is bad, is becasue all these people who are getting free gil easily have less mental value in that gil now (yes, even that annoying menu fiddling makes the gil have more value cause it was annoying to get). So this means when an item is listed on the auction house at inflated prices (usually they don't sell, cause people have high value in their gil), far more people will now be willing to pay the inflated price. This happens auction house wide and then becomes the new normal price of all items, this means every item you buy would increase in price. The 100k ring would rise to 200k, the materials you buy would go from 600k to 900k in a week and this would happen to everything across the board, and offset the gains you get from easy sparks.

This means the thing you're suggesting is bad, and the developers know how to run an video game economy.

Yes it's annoying, but it's annoying by design and it's a good thing because it stops people like me that don't even need the gil from getting it.

No, you are trying way too hard to rationalize something that is objectively a pointless waste of people's time, on TOP of something that shouldn't even exist in the first place. I've already made separate topic posts that also explain why giving away free gil in the first place is also objectively stupid and bad from every imaginable lens of analysis, but if you play the game until you're one of these people sitting on multiple mules of capped gil with no upgrades left to throw at it then gil is always going to be a highly relevant thing and so every player is essentially forced to do this.

You think that is bad don't even think about converting potpourri to duskdim stones.
