View Full Version : Limbus Is Not Boring; It's Just a Waste of Time

Alright, look. I love a good grind. We all do, it's why we play this game. I enjoy the process of building a mythic, a relic, an empyrean. Even a prime. I enjoy each magian trial. I enjoy adding every little different armor piece to any one of my gearsets. All of these prcoesses are enjoyable to me, why? Because I can spend some time and make some progress. I can go into Abyssea for 35 mins and get a few items towards my Empy weapon. I can run Nyzul and get some tokens towards my mythic. I can run Dynamis Divergence and get a couple ranks on that shiny +2 neck I just bought.

But the latest content? I dropped a large chunk of change on a +2 limbus armor piece. I then ran a few tower climbs. Temenos. Out of 5 tower climbs, I got 1 single alabaster matter. 1. My friend who ran it with me? He got 5. And this isn't just in a week. In the past 3 weeks, out of 15 chests, I've received 3 alabaster matters. In what world is this a level playing field?

Every single piece of content in this game allows you to make progress, except for the current form of limbus. With limbus, you very quickly hit a ceiling with units, and then hope and pray for a series of matters. Which is insane, because we're already gated by only getting 5 matters a week, but ONLY if you're super lucky.

If would make more sense, if we're gated by the 5, to at least let players open unlimited chests until they get the 5 matters. Or better yet, make the matters the guaranteed drop instead of the race shards, since the shards can be shared and purchased on the auction house. (Also a super weird design choice to make the gil-sink item be the one that's way more common of a drop. From an economy standpoint, it would make way more sense to have the shards be the rare item).

Anyway, TL;DR: Limbus is terribly designed and a ridiculous wasteful time-sink. I enjoy the grind itself, but Jesus effing Christ, give me something for the time I'm giving you.

Ridiculous, terrible, time-sink is exactly what it's intended to be.

If you would stop eating the slop, they might put some salt on it.

I don't do master leveling deliberately. A few levels while doing content, sure. A trip to a Locus camp? nope
Limbus is just a bad master leveling session with extra steps. skip
There is no megaboss to fight, just a monthly set of Domain Invasions that just happen when a crew of 18 decides to clear it on a whim.

Boring grind, menu tedium, lackluster rewards. Is this the direction of FFXI's future? guess I'm going to be left behind.

Unfortunate that the new limbus weapons offer nothing unique that makes it stand out as things that require a fully completed crafting shield and does not reflect the effort in making the shield, not to mention the stat augments present on the weapons too.
Also the lack of cooking recipes for years.

Although I have had something to show for the time I spent on it so far, the stuff that has been added since the launch hasn't really impressed. Gameplay wise I don't really have an issue, but the content could stand to respect the player's time a little more.Especially for the more specialized jobs there's not much to keep the player going.

They need to increase the number of trusts people can use, it's not popular enough to warrant the restrictions they put on it.

Also they should make monsters not aggro in there, due to the way the content works and then needing to keep changing floors and there being no easy AOE sneak people just train all the monsters and sleep them at the end. Making it a pain for everyone else.

Having a BRD/SCH in a party is fun.

Aside from that, Evanessence from Besieged is pretty fun, though buying them sure isn't (why oh why is it one at a time <grumbles> I made a topic out of it even).

Also they shouldn't attack people near the teleporter any longer if someone else than you took them there.

Limbus borrows NONE of the convenience features established by previous content:

Nyzule Isle = whole party goes up
Omen menus are simpler than omen.
Why do we have to stare at progress bars on every floor?
Why do we have check TEMPORARY ITEMS every floor?

...ridiculous!

...yes, it is boring!

Limbus borrows NONE of the convenience features established by previous content:It has good reasons for not doing so.

Nyzule Isle = whole party goes up- There are reasons to stay on a floor
- Players have the choice of which floor to go to and due to Limbus' mechanics there are reasons to, so you can't just automatically go up (or down, for that matter)

Omen menus are simpler than omen.???
I don't think you meant to write that, but I don't find anything particularly complicated about the menus in Limbus.

Why do we have to stare at progress bars on every floor? You don't have to. If they repulse you that much, no one's forcing you to look at them, keep track mentally and don't look at them. I've never seen someone so offended by progress bars.

Why do we have check TEMPORARY ITEMS every floor? You don't have to. Keep track mentally and don't check them. Otherwise, how would you prefer to check them?

...ridiculous!It really isn't ridiculous and I find your hatred on display here uncharacteristic of you and irrational.

...yes, it is boring! I'm not going to give it an award for best content ever but it really isn't any more or less "boring" than it was before all the changes, and there is lots of content I find more boring or even pointless. But if you think it's that boring then... don't do it? the rewards aren't even that great (at least, for me) which is probably the biggest criticism I have for it.
