Originally SE had a solution to prevent server crowding but the community hated it so they got rid of it (world passes and automatic server selection). It should surprise no one that this eventually happened.

Disclaimer: I agree that SE should have had a plan in place before locking a server but I don't know why you're randomly posting this now when there's no evidence that another server lockdown is imminent.

I don't think it's the reddit community's fault. Hindsight vision is 20/20 after all. Besides, 50% of servers were mostly dead in recent years. Telling new to go to Asura was the right thing to do. (Now, SE is closing servers to force an even distribution of players).

Now, I agree with you, SE should disclose some information to us about what steps they are taking to solve this problem. (Will it be server merge? new architecture changes? SE could go a long way to build trust by sharing some growth numbers with us and by explaining some of the options the are considering).

50% of servers were mostly dead in recent years. "Dead" is extremely subjective. There are people who consider games on steam with higher playercounts than FFXI "dead." |

And I will blame Reddit because it's a fact. The reddit community directed everyone who visited it to one server. And the players obliged. It wasn't like some random visitor just said join me on Asura. It was a specific effort by the community, and one that as far as I can tell was specifically intended to make at least one server NA or English majority. I really wish there was some way to get it across to players that balanced populations are better than big and small ones. More People is not necessarily More Better.

Anyway, look on the positive side. Maybe all the servers will fill up one at a time and then they'll announce new servers. lol.

I didn't say you were. It's a link that was posted 36 hours before you said you looked at the front page and didn't see the announcement. If I could link it, that means SE had already posted it and you just didn't see it. You said it wasn't there when it was absolutely there. You realize it's okay to just say "oh yeah my bad, I'll do a little research before spreading misinformation", right? It's only human to make mistakes, it's okay to admit them.

It's a link that was posted 36 hoursA link that was posted on a discord. The website itself did not have the article posted/inked 36 hours before, otherwise the date of the post would have been different (i.e. at least a day before the actual date on the post)
