based on The 72nd Freshly Picked Vanadiel

it says you guys are increasing the free trial to level 75 and removing the time limits
(source: https://x.com/FFXI_JP/status/2055270122814874094 https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/1tcve7w/freshly_picked_515700edt400pdt_translation_thread/

i would like to offer some feedback

I think you guys should also include Rise of the Zilart and maybe Chains of Promathia with this free trial increase removing the time limit is great in itself but adding a few expansions would be so much more of a draw then just removing the time limit removing the time limit in itsself is a draw but adding a few expansions would be a EVEN BIGGER DRAW

by including these expansions you include more content that was meant for the 75 level the 75 cap is pretty neat but there's gonna be like= nothing for them to really do with it, there would be more zones such as everything on the main continent explored heck even just rise of the zilart would be fine i feel by including these in the free trial you give players more of a story grab and gameplay grab to try out the free trial then eventually buy the game

(also please combine or offer a discounted sub to ffxiv players forever it would also bring in more players)

It's actually a little bit interesting that ROTZ isn't included because that's actually a sort of unique experience given that the game launched outside of Japan with the release of ROTZ and thus it was included with all non-Japanese copies. They actually get to explore the fact that Summoner is actually not a Zilart job, even though it was released with the patch that added the ROTZ data to the game. It does not require ROTZ, but all of the summons except for Carbuncle and the elemental spirits require one of the expansions.

But at the very least ROTZ should be included because almost no one outside of Japan ever experienced the game that way.

Not to mention there's little to no content between 50-75 in pre-Zilart areas.

Got the feeling SE need to monitor how these going to affect with certain aspects, one of them probably with how the RMTs situation would grow & what kind of counter-measure needed to alleviate that, also especially if these also affects those server lockdowns.

On that note, need to re-consider solutions to approach these server lockdowns, coz these free trials would benefit from more seasoned players that could help new players. Asura is understandable for being limited, but Bahamut & Odin felt a bit stretched to get lockdowns, & even Bahamut already felt too long being locked.

Hopefully the new free trial update eventually would stretch out it's availability on expansions as well, especially now that FF14 already includes 3rd expansion on their free trial service.

Other than that, I'm totally down with the combined FF14 perma-discount sub fees. :D

The game launched with Chains of Promathia included here (Europe), so why not include the whole original story arc while we're at it :D

I'm half-joking, I know that might be a bit too generous. But I don't think Square Enix has much to lose by letting people experience the first three expansion stories for free. There's still a lot of other restrictions that will be fairly annoying to someone who is genuinely sold on the game by then.
OR, let trial players experience a few of the first missions of Zilart and Chains and any areas that might unlock, to see if they want to invest in the complete package.

How it migh affect botting, I'm not sure. It seems like the game has a terribly big botting problem already so I can understand wanting to be careful in that regard. I'm thinking people running bots to complete the stories and then harvesting the gil rewards from it.

At the very least, I'm also surprised Rise of the Zilart wasn't included in the free trial.
Heck, Final Fantasy 14 lets you enjoy over half of its entire combined main story in the trial, I think. I haven't played that game in a long time but that's what I remember.

Not sure about the rest, but I 100% agree that the trial should include Rise of the Zilart.

I just returned to the game and I'm playing the trial again and yeah... the first time it took me out of it was when trying to do the very first few RoV missions to go to Norg and the game won't let me because of Zilart.

Perhaps, they are aware many ppl would switch to the free trial version of XI if they gave away too much, hehe.

An official free version of XI with a 75 lvl cap up to COP? I would play that over retail......

If they were crazy enough to make the trial go up til WotG? Yeah......ppl would probably build Linkshells around the free version of XI haha. Could be wrong of course.

Assuming the free version will not have Monstrosity, since that was post level cap.

An official free version of XI with a 75 lvl cap up to COP? I would play that over retail...... I mean you can do this yourself by simply not completing the cap quests and using level sync. IDK why you'd leave out TOAU though...

Regardless, they didn't keep every version of the game during development, and this is unfortunately very common in the industry, especially in the early 2000s and prior because it becomes cost prohibitive with storage to keep every build forever. Because of this, there will never be an official "classic server." This was confirmed by the devs years ago.

Today, studios tend to be better about record keeping and methodology improvements in archiving make it much easier to retain old versions (since you can use a common asset repository you don't need many duplicate copies of the same material for every build)

Private servers had to reverse engineer the game and even then they bascially had to recreate the relevant parameters by hand and that took a very long time. Even if SE assigned more staff to the game it would take a long time to implement such a thing.

i actually agree
im stuck in a situation where either i server transfer to play with friends or wait until phoenix is unlocked again
i actually hope they implant a server travel feature like ffxiv as crazy as it sounds because the devs are probably like 2 people and some retired old guy who is on the payroll still

i actually also hope its a stretch but with us finally being off ps2 dev kits and the free trial being increased we can see a new expansion for the first time since 2013 ff11 has potential but its overshadowed by ffxiv thats coming from someone who plays both games
and actively support both games by sending copies to friends especially ff11
