Platform: Windows 11
ISP: Webformix
Type of Internet Connection: Wireless
Internet Connection Speed: ~50Mbps
Date & Time: 5/11/2026 01:00am PDT
Frequency: Whenever skill goes up
Character Name: Sachikamu
Race: Mithra
World: Valefor
Main Job: Scholar
Support Job: Red mage
Area and Coordinates: Escha-Zi'Tah, various locations
Party or Solo: Solo
NPC Name: n/a
Monster Name: multiple monsters
Steps:
1. Gain skill in literally anything.
2. Where it used to show skillups in the form of "<player>'s <skill> has increased by 0.X points.", it now shows them as "<player>'s <skill> has increased by X points.", leaving out the preceding "0.". The increase is still fractional amounts of a point, however, as the actual skill level does not go up by 1-5 full points (generating the "<player>'s <skill> has reached level X" message every time, rather than whenever the fractional amount has rolled over into the ones place).

It does look a bit weird to get a skill up every 10 points.

Maybe accidentally related to the alter ego changes, but working as intended, just like fishing on dry ground... but I'm starting to digress.

I'm not seeing it, automaton still gains 0.X skill

Guess it's only affecting player characters then. Or at least automatons excluded being.

I kind of remember them mentioning something about something like this kind of a change but I can't see it in the notes, so it would have been in a stream.

I don't see a reason for this change at all though, so going to bet on messing it up while messing with the alter ego skills... though wonder how, since they're not gaining them like we do... at all.

Mysteries of FFXI code would be fun to see and get into indeed!

Nope, I walked a level 1 character outside hit and got hit. Still doing 0.X for both.

You did something extra to your files. That's very interesting, considering that I'm running entirely stock. Not even Windower.

I think it's because internally, even though it shows 0.x in the messages, the game is literally counting to ten and not to 1.

Oh, undoubtedly, it's just that this is an unexpected surprise with the potential to confuse newer players, as well as not being consistent with how things were shown for the past 24 years - and before anyone compares this to the TP decimal point being shifted out, that at least got announced in update notes, which this did not.

Same here, albeit on Gentoo Linux, but that alters no files or anything so, indeed, interesting!

Not interesting at all, pretty dat files keep it at the original 0.X style read out.

I see. I was guessing something like that from the edited comment but wasn't sure still.

Thanks!

... this is an unexpected surprise with the potential to confuse newer player...

Confuse new player? It confused the heck out of this player with 22 years of gameplay!!

I WANT MY DECIMAL POINT BACK! <g>

Though I'd agree there wasn't really any good reason to change the text string, it also isn't THAT big of a deal.

One other thing I've noticed: I haven't seen what used to be a 0.2 point skill up on any synth. Seems stuck on 1. Anyone see a 2 point skill up since the update?
