View Full Version : Fafnir Ridill drop rate bug

I am committed to getting a riddle and I spent a lot of time and effort gathering honey wine to spawn Fafnir and I have had a group of friends helping me with this. Within 3 earth days we have spawned 75 Fafnir s using high treasure hunter, and zero riddles dropped. sweet tea we only got two of those.
After looking this up online I see multiple other people complaining that they have done Fafnir over 40 times with no drop. Before Fafnir was a trigger spawn and it spawned once every 24 hours, riddle would drop on average once every couple weeks…. That’s how I remember. So one out of 10 to 14 pops. Now out of 75 spawns we haven’t seen a single one.
This is broken whether it was by design or if it’s a bug, it needs to be fixed. Especially now that it’s so difficult to spawn Fafnir in the first place. I only got so many pop items because I had spent a lot of of gil buying them from multiple people, but you can only get a trigger from login campaign, which is temporary, or ks99 lol? Not only have you made it rare to spawn and kill Fafnir, but you have made the drop rates even more rare.
And on a sidenote, I know this part of the game is long gone, but this was one of the best parts of the game. Camping out in Dragons aery with the servers players and waiting together for Fafnir to pop. Being with friends and having fun. It brought people together. You really hurt the game by removing that aspect of it, but then to replace it with something like this? I think you should return all the NMs to timer spawn and top of that keep trigger spawns for those that can’t camp it. Not that it matters anymore, but just out of integrity and respect for its legacy for its fans.

Ridill has always been a miserable drop rate.
If you participate in vanabout you can get a ridill hassle free.

Thank you for the suggestion, but this doesn’t solve the issue of Fafnir not dropping a Ridill. It also does not help me because it looks like to participate in this you need to enter ambuscade? And I am strictly playing level 75 content I have not done limit breaks and I’m not interested in the new content. And just in case anyone feels like criticizing that, there’s nothing wrong with that. I want to play Legacy content and why not keep that content available and accessible? I am also aware of private servers and I’m not interested in that either.

I see. Well ridill is sendable so you can do it on another character and send it to your 75 locked char. If that's an option.
Can always make and log in more characters for more honey wines, too. But the drop rate remains bad, always will. working as intended.

Thank you for the suggestion, but this doesn’t solve the issue of Fafnir not dropping a Ridill.It's not a bug, or an issue, it's just a low drop rate. If you don't want to deal with the low drop rate there is an alternative as was stated earlier. If you want an authentic 75 experience then you have to live with the drop rates that have always been a part of this game. It's amazing how often people come here complaining they haven't gotten some drop and it must be a bug, when the reality is, they just aren't lucky. SE even made a post here explaining how their drop rates work and the effect TH has on them.
There have been people who got ridill their first try and people who have been unsuccessful in hundreds of attempts over the last 20 years.
Vanabout has objectives at various levels and you can still contribute to it even with your self imposed restrictions. (Which I'm glad someone is choosing to do it that way instead of private servers which I don't approve of either)

It's not a bug, or an issue, it's just a low drop rate. If you don't want to deal with the low drop rate there is an alternative as was stated earlier. It is ridiculous and unreasonable to suggest I make a new character to farm a Ridill for my main character? I would be more acceptable of the whole luck thing, if it spawn freely and I had a chance every day like how it used to be. But the fact that my chances to even spawn it are limited, and I have to go through efforts to procure those spawns then zero out of 75 feels like fruitless labor rather than gameplay.
I think it is a good suggestion to restore the notorious monsters back to their original spawn conditions while also allowing the ??? And trigger spawns to remain. Don’t you agree? They made the change in the first place to counter Gil farmers and people complaining they never got a chance at these nm’s. But now that is irrelevant so why not partially restore the game and preserve the vision its original creators had. Out of respect if nothing else.

It is ridiculous and unreasonable to suggest I make a new character to farm a Ridill for my main character?I didn't suggest this at all? Not sure where you got that. Maybe you're referring to how it's force pop now, but I didn't tell you to do that.
But really, ridill doesn't even have the worst drop rate. The lowest drop rate tier is ~1% and ridill is around 5%.
SE moved away from timed spawns on most HNMs for a reason. For one thing, with all players able to obtain pop items, fafnir can actually be spawned more than before. SEcondly, it eliminates the player conflict over a popular NM. Do you really want to have a provoke ping contest again instead of being able to do it when you want to do it? Players almost universally prefer the force pops. I was in an HNM LS for years back in the day and I do not miss standing around Dragon's Aery for multiple hours only to not have the Fastest Provoke in the West.
You can buy/sell/trade the pop items, you're not limited to just making alts to get more pops items. And maybe Fafnir isn't so relevant but even today people still want D rings from King Behemoth.
Ultimately, this forum section is for bugs. If you want to make suggestions, you can post in Battle Content or General Discussion. This thread will get rejected as "working as intended" because... it is.
Ideally SE would implement some kind of bad luck protection, but that would entail tracking your drops which would substantially increase character data size.. Ridill is around 1 in 20 and you say you've done it almost four times as many times without a drop. Just a sanity check here: are you sure you really don't have one already? /itemsearch "Ridill" Because it won't drop at all if everyone in your party already has one.
Anyway, you should seriously consider exploring the content that has come later. SE seems to be updating old contents for the new progression caps. Limbus for instance is no longer 75 content so your options are narrowing. There is plenty of "sidegrading" as we have remained at our current maximum progression for many years now. When they added master levels, no equipment or abilities depended on them, its just extra stats, so gearing is almost as good today as it was before everything changed.

Yeah, could have just added the equipment loot to battlefields, and leave the originals be.
Or add new battlefields for them, while leaving the originals be.
But yeah, if you want to report it as a bug, you will want to use the template from Welcome to Forum: In-Game Bugs!, else this will be a "not a bug report" or "insufficient information".

It wasn't until later that I discovered the force pops replaced the timed spawn entirely. But I think they did this because it was essentially an unhealthy kind of competition.
That being said, given that this sort of thing is unlikely to attract the attention that it used to, they could probably add it back alongside the force pops, or they could make the force pop items a little easier to come by (that would be my preference)

Man, this took me so many pops! Dozens over four or five years. Eventually it dropped and I added it to my Rare/Ex collection on my mule.
I let out a bit of a whoop when it appeared on the drop list. Made what must have totalled hours and hours of my life all worthwhile. Thinking about it, I must value my time really poorly.
Anyway, back to collecting all the Rare/Ex items in the game.
