View Full Version : What did my pet just do!

Only in the last few weeks have I even noticed this but my pet has been running off and attacking alot of mobs (espically ones that link) randomly. It first happened when I was helping a friend kill dark spark and linked up about 15 demons. I counted the kills because it blew my mind we thought SE started a beseiged at dark spark or something.
Since then it has happened a handful of times while doing VNM's inside abyssea. As the hate is on my pet I am not overly concerned about this it's just a waste of time to have to kill my nm then 10 more links after my pet runs off into the distance for some solo fun.
Is this a glitch or am I doing something I do not know about? These monsters don't attack me during fights. One time I went afk during nm fight. When I came back I did not notice my pet was gone so I spawned the Tier 1 vnm in the area for upgrade. When i sicked my pet on it he came back with 5 spiders.

Beast pets will run after mobs who get on their hate list. They act just like normal Enemies. Hitting the target with the Highest Enmity.
If your pet was fighting a mob and got nuked/hit by another mobs AoE/spell, Later on the mob he's fighting might drop lower on his Enmity level and he'll go Off after the mob who hit him before.
Its nothing new, its annoying, But Jug pets follow the same Enmity/attack patterns as normal mobs. (by that i mean they attack based on enmity)

Yes I see that all the time with them flipping mobs on one's I am engaged what I am talking about here is I kill the NM now I am fighting nothing then my pet runs off and attacks other stuff. Other stuff that if it was on the mobs hate list it would have been at camp killing me. I do not sleep these mobs I do not run from them or deal with them or see them in any form. I kill my nm and stop fighting then my pet goes and finds new prey.

i see this all the time in abyssea. from what i noticed. you are killing mobs that linked, and while finishing off the few mobs or NM or w/e linked.. the original had repopped and the pets still recognize them as a target.. much like when you attack a worm that dives... when it repops the pet already knows to attack it. its only bc of abyssea's rapid respawn rates that i think we see it happening now. i assume the glitch was always there.

Since we're on the subject of strange things that pets do. Could someone clarify what level of TH that dipper has? i just got 7 drops off a Dusk lizard while farming for Sirrush pop item. i thought it only had TH2 and many people say that it doesnt build over time but it IS a thf so it seems very sketchy. anyone have some actual testing they can throw out there?

Since all TH does is increase the chance of getting a drop (I think as a reroll?) there's no real way to say for sure. As a 90 thf who starts every fight with TH5 I can tell you the only thing I've noticed consistently with TH is that if I get a message that the TH effect has increased my chances of getting anything seem to go down, not up. In any event, the consensus on Yuly seems to be TH2.

Yep. Although the tests on Wiki aren't a particularly large sample, they're within a reasonable margin of error to indicate Yuly has TH2.

yeah it was really strange though. i was fighting those lizards for hours and only getting 1-2 drops then i'd get like a 4 item drop then an hour later i got the 7 item drop.

Actually this as been removed from my game. As a result I now have to kill everything my pet brings into camp. I do appreciate your attempt at explaining this issue thou.

Haha, touche.
In all seriousness though, Karbuncle explained it really well. All you can do for the moment is try to be aware that it might happen when you have multiple mobs around. Then *sigh* when it does, heel the daft pet back, deal with whatever it brings, and then go back to whatever it was you were doing.

use the old mob pull tactic, send in your crappiest jug, let it get hate, then Leave it before it gets killed, only the mob you hit will come (although it can link whatever it passes on the way), pop a real jug and go to town. Expensive but it works.
And since when was heel removed? I use it all the time, in fact I used it just Tuesday in Nyzul Isle, works fine.
Not sure if it was mentioned before, but wouldn't Dipper Yuly have Treasure Hunter III?
As Dipper Yuly is a Level 90 Jug pet according to Wiki and Treasure Hunter III is learned at Level 90, I assumed that maybe Dipper Yuly had as high as Treasure Hunter III.
Is there any way to verify this?

no way to verify unless a shit load of testing was done. and i'd rather not spend 100k on a stack of dippers to test her TH skills. but there seems to be a lot of confusion when it comes to dipper. i'd get 1-2 drops per dusk lizard, then 4, then 7 which was really really strange. for some reason i feel like the amount of enmity dipper has as opposed to yourself can have an effect on the lvl TH if it does climb higher. and the amount of "ready" moves you use, the latter being the lesser likely of the two.

Not to mention, Even if it gets it at level 90, If Yuly follows the same patterns as pre-76 Pets, She, even with Monster Gloves, can spawn as a level 89 pet, Completely skewing all results.
Unless its been so long I may have missed that new pets dont follow the same old patterns, and always spawn at our level? Though i doubt it...

Alot of people keep mentioning this. I've been posting alot of bst testing lately. I won't touch this testing before the next level cap increase.
at level 90, you have a 1/6 chance of getting a level 90 jug (unless its shasra or broncha). I've not tested yet, but I'm guessing that monster gloves would make that a 1/3 chance.
no way anyone wants to spend the time and gil for that. you'd first need to verify Yuly is level 90. Which means you would have to go fight the high level stuff to get hp low, and test using reward, and then compare hp and % to the known hp tables for level 90 jug. ONLY AFTER verifying this, could you try to record or parse the treasure drop rates from something that is well tested and known.
I'm pretty confident that Yuly has it at 90. Even testing a few older jugs, I've found chucky gains crit attack bonus at level 78. Its part of the job.
It seem jugs get traits from either their job, or their family. I've been able to verify almost every job trait so far (not merited ones).
Yeah, the prices for Dipper Yuly are insane now... I can understand that being one of the reasons that people haven't finished tests on her just yet. I'd really like to find out though if anyone finds a post about the testing results that someone may have done if possible.
Keep me informed, please, and thanks for the replies! ^.^

One of these days I'm going to try killing Fistule while having a bunch of aggro'd leeches on backup keeping my pet in combat, just to see if the pet goes and attacks Fisty after it respawns without it being activated. It would be funny if they started fighting each other but the NM remained untargetable. SCIENCE!

lolz! i should try this. I'm fighting fistule alot.
Its easier to repeat the problem if you are pulling a big mass or mobs. I was pulling for a cleave burn for trial axe yesterday, holding all the birds on pet. When they werekilled, by pet starts charging off into who knows where...
It happened a few times. its easier to repeat this way. very annoying, but would befun to get fistule claim for this bug.

Personally, I think we should get a /ja that kinda does a reverse provoke on a mob for our pet, so that we could pick the mob that is currently at the top of our pet's hate list.

Actually, I should have remembered why this doesn't work...
competing for claim one time, I got claim w/ bloodguzzler and I did have an add. Fistule eats them all w/ Dissolve when you claim him. If you can have another w/ aggro on pet out of range of fistule when you claim... it might work... but thats just too much trouble.

this shit still hasn't been fixed. stupid pets still attack random mobs if there is link ending in dangerous situations!
pls dev team fix this !!!!!
