View Full Version : Cannot re-activate Mog Wardrobe(s) during Return Home Campaign ???

Greetings,
I've waited months for the holidays' free FFXI playtime. I wanted to resume blue magic learning, but the blue mage gears' are stuck in Mog Wardrobe 3. Thus, I went to SE website and when trying to reactivate the Mog Wardrobe 3 it prompts: "It is not possible to only reactivate a Mog Wardrobe option".
Rather deceived; changes to current Return Home Campaign rules would be more than welcome.
Regards,
B

it's a well known, but designed, issue. In order to access paid wardrobes, your account needs to have an active character- free access does not make the character active. They are not unlocked during return home campaigns. There is no deception here though. This is how it has always been, since the wardrobes were introduced.
If you're as eager to play again as you appear, perhaps you'll fully return and everything will be as normal.
That said, you won't find anyone here (including me) who would disagree that you should be able to remove items from an inactive wardrobe (just not move things to it) so they're not effectively held hostage, whether it's a return campaign or you just don't want to use/pay for it anymore. They should definitely do that.

Would be nice if SE at least let us access previously activated wardrobes from the mog house. For now you're stuck with your stuff in limbo since you aren't a paying customer.

Yeah, it's just a free login campaign. You aren't allowed to have any gear to actually play the game, only log in.

They would have to give everyone fre access to mog wardrobes, which could cause server strain, but you may also have a situation where someone who pays to subscribe, but not for all wardrobes used them and then couldn't access gear after promotion ends.
It's a freebie, just accept that, it's for returnees from before wardrobes were a thing, If thats not you, you should really pay.

I mean I'm with you in acknowldinging its would be more complicated than it might look. But I'm not proposing giving free access to wardrobes- I'm only saying unpaid wardrobes should be remove-only: That is, you should be able to take items out of a wardrobe that's been cancelled. Not equip or put items in, just take them out. Otherwise, your items are held hostage until you pay up again. You shouldn't be required to empty it BEFORE cancelling.

I see no issue with putting items in and taking them out... IF: the wardrobe is simply inactive, not unpurchased entirely AND you are in a mog house, mog garden or rental room.
That would be a bunch of $ SE would get (one time) for accounts who don't have 8 wardrobes yet who would be interested in extra gear storage. Dealing with swapping gear in a mog house is quite the pain though, so I would expect the people who did do a one time purchase for the wardrobes would eventually cave and simply subscribe to some extra wardrobes for convenience afterwords.

If you plan on not playing for a while and using the free login this way, you'd likely need to pay for a month and reactivate all wardrobes. Then move all gear for 1 or 2 jobs to wardrobe 1 and 2, which will be included with free login. If you have more gear than that then either main inventory or in sack, satchel, etc and you'd have to move them as needed.

you wouldnt have much reason to pay in the first place in that case. I'm trying to put this in the context of something would reasonably do. You don't purchase hte mog wardrobes, you subscribe to them. if you can put items back in, they're still providing utility even though you're not paying for them. So I don't think SE would do that.

me: BRO why can't you land silence?! It's been ages.
Alhanelem maybe: ...sorry I forgot my enfeeble equipset is in one of my unpaid wardrobes.
me: Just pay the sub fee you ***, so this stops happening.
Alhanelem maybe: I don't have much reason to pay for those.
I honestly think a lot of people who start by using it as extra storage would quickly find inventory management too hell to bother with continuing outside of rarely used jobs. Also, it's very much in-line with the same reason Free Login exists at all. It's there to get people to spend money on this game. The fact that all inactive services aside from wardrobes are activated speaks of an oversight. You're trying to get people to return to FFXI, yet as soon as they login they can't play because their gear is locked behind a paywall that sold them on paying which is why they're only on during Free Play at the moment. As such, they simply log right back off and go back to playing something else.
The real play for Free Login would be to unlock all [inactive] services on accounts including wardrobes, my mog house idea is just if they didn't want to go that route. They could use something different in a similar way in order to bait out more $ from us.

Alhanelem maybe: I don't have much reason to pay for those. Maybe you're missing it but the reason I said what I said is being able to store items in that space freely - even if you can't equip from the wardrobes anymore - provides utility. It is more storage space. If SE designed it as you propose, literally everyone would buy all mog wardrobes for 1 month and let the ones they don't need as gear swap space run out, because that gets them 80 more space per wardrobe for just $1 forever.
This is why it would have to be remove only. You are still getting value from a thing that's supposed to be paid for, without paying for it. The fact that it isn't the FULL value isn't relevant. You're still getting non-zero utility from it. This would be heavily a bused and you know it. But they need to at a minimum let you remove items from the wardrobes without an active sub because otherwise your items are being held for a $1-6 ransom.

Probably not a localisation issue, this topic. :]
(Not that I have any real faith left at this time in that it really matters, just a note in any case.)

Indeed, though it's actually a 2-12 EUR/USD or 1.40-8.40 GBP ransom.
While they're changing that (unlikely but never say never etc.), it would be nice if they didn't show paying customers the door if their subscription runs out during the freebie times. I suppose being able to use inactive characters during them is something, but that's also out the door early with the subscription...
Edit:
Moved the reply to the topic in general above the quote, so as to try and make it more clear it's not a reply to the quote itself.

Also probably not a localisation issue, this topic. :] Yeah, but I wasn't the one who posted it and while I would probably normally point this out I just wasn't thinking about it lol
