I would have to raddle off a list
"can you do a"?
they say no
"can you do b"?
you tend to make troll topics but ill be meaningful/truthful with my replay because the issue I am about to say is very big with me
If the CEO came to me and said "rambus ill change one thing in the game for you what will it be?".
my replay would be is to give better customer service polices. I would tell them about my story in all the hoops i went through with the lack of service I received and explain that I think it is better for the company as a whole to give better service.
the better rep would sell more games/ service what not ill make both ends happier.

Well it was to be able to play it on my PS3 but I ain't so keen on billed services there anymore >.<
So I guess I'd go for a bigger dev budget, too many cracking ideas have been knocked back because it's too expensive/time consuming to implement.

This. Drop PS2 support and push forward with the game without the limitations burdening them.
Goddamnit, why do people think we would magically get new areas if ps2 support was dropped? It would be LESS LIKELY to happen, because guess what? The ps2 is not stopping them in any way, shape, or form from adding new areas. The only thing dropping ps2 support would do in that regards is lose them money, making it even less likely to happen.

Hurray, a Daily Double Dose of Hordecore Troll Threading. Hurray, ignorant use of the term "Drop PS2 Support". Thanks for the blatantly obvious statement Rog. "The ps2 is not stopping them in any way, shape, or form from adding new areas." Exactly, that would be called "dropping ps2 support" if they added new areas that weren't available on the ps2? Lose them money? As laughable as your post, they wouldn't "lose" money they would just make slightly less "profits" initially upon releasing that content in an expansion pack format, that lacks the ability to be installed on ps2. Double Daily Hordecore Troll Thread with a side of anti-"drop ps2 support" stupidity, must be my lucky day.

Adding new areas does not require increased ram usage, which is the only real limitation imposed by the ps2.
Although dropping the weaker-performing system may work in other games like PSU (well, it was dropped due to inactivity and costs, but the 360 version has seen much more better overall improvements since then), it won't work for FFXI. The coding for the game, apparently, was written entirely or mostly in PS2 coding, meaning that anything that is in the game now is only there because the PS2 can handle it. Better graphics and other things liked increased inventory space can't happen unless the dev. team rewrites the entire game's coding from scratch, and that is basically like making a new game. Dropping the PS2 won't change anything; rather, it'll bring in a smaller revenue than before.

It's true that it has a 40GB Harddrive. Partition assigned to FFXI was 4GB on initial install and expanded to 8GB circa-CoP, iirc. Considering FFXI was one of the two games I can think of that ever used the Harddrive, I don't know why they didn't just give it like 20GB right off the bat.

what will it be?
Overhaul FFXI's Windows client for modern PCs. Update to DirectX 9/10/10.1/11 Does not mean dropping PS2 support, just a client update for PC version, texture and geometry assets would remain the same possibly with a few tweaks such as replacing dithered textures with the 24-bit RGB originals, if original textures were drawn at a higher resolution and then scaled down use the higher res versions (texture artists commonly do this). 60fps, MSAA and get rid of the whole background/overlay resolution silliness. Also implement a "draw menus 2x size" option and split chat box.
Ban PC players since their delimitations have awakened the stalker.

Max size partition any application can access is 10GB though, and FFXI for Ps2 is 8 GB now so do the math.

I'd like a letter of apology for harboring posters of bad ideas..... since this is a wish list not a criticism of the wonderful, lovely, handsome and might I say dashing mods who patrol these forums. Making it safe to go out at night and post without fear of rebuke again.
Too many people rely on PS2 to play the game (Japan) for them to do away with it. Though, props to those who can still even use a PS2 and HD to play it. My ps2 long since died. A version for PS3 would be nice. but the game is all ready a port of a port. makes things tough.
I'd like to see a new graphics/textures pack released to those that can take advantage of it. (pc, xbox360 and if its ever is possible ps3) Other games have no problem with doing said things even if people as a whole can't do the same. the game is still very pretty, but these new-fangled wide screen monitors are really making the game look its age. Better texture compression and particle effects didn't show up until Toau and it is really noticeable in the starting towns, Models, and older gear. even on our characters. Extended chat log character limit would be nice too, since if you are on a wider screen you only get to use half of it but the chat box still goes across the other side of the screen. (though in retrospect I fear what that would do for town shouts)
Pretty much aware that these things can't be changed, but any effort put forth to make the game better in general is still appreciated.

Everything important except the movement and collision detection of your character happens at the server not on the client. They could update quite a lot on the PC and 360 versions without affecting PS2 support.
Updated PC client. Ultima Online got an update 10 years after it's release and it had less than 100k subscribers. I'm not interested in any excuse they could ever come up with. If they don't want to do it, fine. Tell us so we can stop asking for it and decide whether or not it's worth continuing to dish out millions of dollars to them every month for seemingly nothing but time sinks. Updating your graphics goes a long ways with people.

My first pick would be drop FFXIV and pump everything into a FFXI-2 (HD, all same content and zones) so that they can push a PS3 release to allow new content and increase the lifespan.
if thats excessive
Then a new set of WS so i can acully use different weapons rather than just emperyans.

If I got to wish for one thing, it would probably be 5 atmas available everywhere. It is so much easier to equip a few atmas out of a good selection, than to try and get SE to make armors and weapons that aren't total failure.
I'd really want Summoner fixes, but when you know how terrible they usually are, it is better to ask for more of what SE did right than less of what they did wrong.

At the very least they should update to DirectX 9, get rid of the background/overlay settings in favor of a common resolution and add 60fps and MSAA support. This would not be hard, it's the kind of thing you'd hand to an intern for a coupled months.
If they ever did to a full graphics update though I'd hope they would license an outside Engine like CryEngine or whatever rather than using Crystal Tools.
Better yet, license the Source engine for a graphics and client update and integrate FFXI completely with Steam with all subscriptions, expansions, updates and sales of the game happening via the Steam interface. VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat) would also raise the stakes considerably for cheaters because if you are banned from online in one Steam game you are banned from online in all Steam games. And also, VAC is very, very good at catching cheaters.

If I had one wish, it would be to change the Chloris pop system, to be more consistent in both time and effort compared to others such as Briarius and Carabosse.
9 (4 if you dish out a few hundred k buying pops) NMs compared to 2 or 3, that's not even remotely equal.
Edit: Or just add NMs to Bri/Cara paths, I'd love to float a raft down a river of SAM and NIN tears.

For me, I'd pull out a little sheet of paper and tell him to do what's written on it. Written on my little paper would be:
-PC Client revamp
-Upgrade to at least Direct X9
-Red Mage melee update
If he told me I could get only one of those things, I'd go with the PC client revamp, but then ask him where the class balance guys are so I could have a little chat with them.

If I was given the power to change one thing that this company is being run, I would change the way they operate their GM services.
How many times have you called a GM and felt like your response is "Thank you very much for bringing this up, but since you are unimportant, we will ignore you until at least 50 people have called about the same thing, then we might investigate the problem you originally brought up, but until then, f*** off"
Because I feel like that almost every time I called a GM, and that is not often.

I don't expect new areas to magically appear from dropping PS2 support. What I COULD see happening are UI adjustments, potential alterations and optimizations to the engine itself, and things like the screwed up inventory system being consolidated. There's a lot of things completely unrelated to game content that they can't really change due to the PS2.
As far as money goes.. I wasn't aware this thread was meant to be at all realistic, what with given the fact we're talking about getting any one wish we want from a CEO of SE as if they were a genie.

Sony's has a strict policy that PS2 to PS3 ports must receive a graphics update. It doesn't have to be state of the art for a PS3 game but it has to have improved textures, models and resolution. SE is not willing to do this so there will never be a PS3 native version of FFXI.

Use the settings in game to set resolution to 16:9, They need to update the game configuration utility to implement the 2048 x 2048 overlay. (You can do it just need to ediit the registry settings) Also need to fix the character select screen for the PC version to use the game's settings to display them.

I would ask them to give the dev team significantly more resources, so that they can afford to work on many of the suggestions they have turned down because "too many man-hours to do". Oh yeah, and also to let them work on a proper UI revamp. I probably think that's a bigger priority than actually improving the graphics, though both would be nice.
Also, if there should be any graphics engine update, it should be to unreal engine 2, because it runs on "anything", while still looking pretty good.

You aren't limited to 2048x2048, that was just a limitation of old graphics cards. For example I'm using 1360x768 for Overlay and 2720x1536 for Background. Ideally you should set Background to 2x Overlay for the best image quality.

BLM could get a staff that has the MAB and INT on it that would effect all spells instead of just one element. SMN has Behamut's staff but if you want the -5 perp cost you need 8 more. Why not just give us One staff for each job? Could make it a Magian Trail staff not to easy to get done. But yea... this would be my one wish. :)
