View Full Version : [dev1011] Futility of Treasure Caskets and Grounds of Valor

Is there something that's going to be relevant with those? I mean let's face it, while you can still make parties and get invites if you know what your'e doing (I usually get low level parties when i try for it) there are a lot of peopel who feel that leveling in lower areas isn't quite worth it. At least on my server people complain a lot that they haven't been in a low level party in weeks. Then I go and make one and try to invite them, but they've usually logged off. :P

But anyway back on topic, what is the relevancy the dev team is looking at with these treasure caskets and grounds of valor. Those seem like something that would have been great pre-abyssea but a lot of the areas just seem kinda futile. Other than doing Missions and a quest here and there how often are people going to get the Fei Yin treasure caskets. Is Dangruff Wadi relevant to have treasure caskets in?

With the exp gained outside Abyssea being doubled, and Abyssea leeching possible/plausible from the 30s-50s and up, is there really any point in having grounds of valor. I mean Once you're about the level of a White Gate leveling party, most of the healing jobs can easily get an Abyssea leveling party. So unless you have some die hard old school levelers, you rarely get things like Colibri parties in the Aht Urghan areas.

So having treasure caskets in some of these mid level areas are kinda pointless, and most importantly the lower level areas really aren't relevant due to the fact that exp gains have doubled so you'll probably out class the weapon or item in a place like Dangruff Wadi before you have a chance to farm it.

It just seems like this content addition here is just too late, and not bringing enough to the table. Am I missing something? Or will these items be just so great that I'll be eating my words and editing this post in order to save face?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is there any significant relevance? With our Anniversary rings coming soon, how many people are likely to benefit from the treasure caskets? I might get a few tabs here and there for teleportation services while i do some random things in Aht Urghan areas, but doubt i'll be leveling there.

Last time I killed stuff there was on my 90 Pup because i was helping someone who was struggling as a DRG to get Kindred Seals for his limit break. Not so sure I'll be going back there often. I'd like to... but finding people in that level range who AREN'T just trying to get into Abyssea parties isn't very likely.

It's much easier to use the "Search Comment" and /sea all to form lower level parties.

Presumably there will be new items to gain from opening the new treasure caskets. Waaaay back in the day you could get keys from monsters in certain areas and then open treasure chests and coffers for rewards. Sometimes you could open the chests/coffers if you were a thief and had tools. Unfortunately that was never maintained or expanded upon. I pray that these new caskets are not a dumb new system that we will forget about in 3 months.

You may have noticed the 7,000+ posts complaining about how Abyssea ruined good play, killed jobs, trashed skill and the like. Well, in the wide world outside Abyssea skilled players can still be skilled players, dead jobs are relevant again, and skill-ups actually happen (we even get martial master in the areas they proposed... when it's up).

I don't think the level 90 noob set is going to be very interested; the idea of using their brains for anything other than soaking up THC is generally beyond them, but veteran players will welcome it. Sure we'll still do Abyssea for our AF3 +2 and probably to speed merit, but once we've done that we'll want to go where the game is actually challenging, not in god-mode. As chests without contents would seem kind of pointless I for one am expecting new drops, or at least another place to get existing drops.

Lastly, all the whiney monks complaining about how black belt farming is ruined having to use KS will need to get them somewhere, this'll do.

I couldn't agree more. Nothing is ever perfect. I welcome the ability to xp outside of Abyssea, being one of those "veteran" players and a non-bandwagon Monk who might now stand a better chance of finishing BB.

SE already said that the "ascent items" from Voidwatch can be found in Treasure Caskets. Other than that, I'm betting evolith/items :(

Hopefully they add more items like Gothic Gauntlets/Sabatons, Which were at least decent for NIN/PLD at their level. (for voke macros or enmity actions).

Hope they add R/ex items in general to the boxes and just dont forget about them.
