View Full Version : Why are campaigns reducing out play time?

With the most recent campaign, it seems like we're being told to play FFXI LESS by reaching our daily caps more quickly? Is this true?
Do you just want us to switch to FF14? I don't think that's ever going to happen.

I think they just wanted more players to take part in Vanabout.

I'm referring to the August campaigns ...does Vanabout still happen this month?

uh no, that's not it at all. And maybe you missed where the producer mentioned there's been an influx of players recently? (or maybe not so much "influx" as "upward trend")
The goal was to have smaller batches of campaigns that change more often so that we aren't doing the same content all the time. I wouldn't say they really achieved that with how they did it, but that was the intention.
See part of the problem is with the old campaign schedule, if the content you're most interested in isn't in the campaign list, you had to wait a whole month for them to change. Now, they change more often, so if it isn't on the list this week it might be next week.

That's not what they're doing though. If you've got something where they say that's the plan, cool, love to see a link to it, but the actual thing that they did was make a 7 day campaign in early July, then an 11 day campaign in early August, both on the same version update mind you, both with the same exact campaigns. Normally, we'd get 18 or 19 days of one set of campaigns inside the span of one update, and... sure enough, you put those two mini-campaigns together and that's what you get.
This wasn't being flexible and doing more campaigns that last for less time. It was cutting one campaign in two, and jamming Vana'bout in the middle.
If the late August campaign wasn't 19 days (plus another 3 for Vana'bout performance), then I'd buy that that's the plan here, but for right now, it looks a lot like they're staying the course on how monthly campaigns are rolled out.
I actually kind of wonder if it's even technically possible to do two different campaigns on one version update, or if those are a Cornelia/Matsui-P thing where things have to be manually replaced each time to make it work. There could be some server-side campaign on/off control for each one, but it's equally possible that there's just one global "campaigns active" toggle and the selected campaigns all run off of it. Can anyone remember a time when a monthly campaign got turned on mid-update while others didn't? The only thing that comes to mind for me is trove test your luck, which never quite syncs up with the monthly stuff and probably runs more like a seasonal event.

Yeah, I don't like these strange "middle of the month campaigns" ...but I also don't like when campaigns create congestion because ordinary players are trying to play normally and players who enjoy the special campaigns have to compete with them for the same queues. :/
...such a conundrum....

The problem with campaigns right now is that there are two main kinds of players, people who play normally and enjoy the boosted campaigns and people who "do things to do it 24/7" and take advantage of it and ruin it for everyone else.
As such they should cap the boosts every campaign, you should not be able to to cap crafting by "doing stuff 24/7" during a campaign, same for XP. Just add hard caps to exactly how much of a boost a campaign gives instead of making it unlimited.
The crafting one especially is heavily abused and broken.
Very few people will reach the cap if they are playing normally anyway.
