I have felt that with the way campaign has become useless to most people these days that skill ups should be allowed in campaign, I would imagine this would breath new life into campaign. And perhaps give some of these new players a place to skill other than abyssea (blizzard 5 for 100 damage...)

That's a great idea, seeing as NO ONE wants to do Campaign on my server anymore. I love Campaign, but not with only 2 people fighting the mobs by themselves! That and maybe I do need to get in gear with the WoTG storyline. :P

Campaign has been greatly eclipsed by every other exp-gain possibility. As it is on Bismarck right now, San d'Oria is under attack (does not own any other territories), Bastok owns 4 areas outside of the city, and Windurst only owns 2. Dark Kindred territories haven't been touched since Allied Rings came out. I'd love skill-ups and perhaps other adjustments to this part of FFXI, too. Until getting the full Cobra Unit Harness set and the arrival of Abyssea, I loved Campaign despite its lacking further rewards (save for a tiny chance at a single piece of currency for relics). Now my medals are going away and my time is going into other activities instead. :eek:

... or did Campaign rewards increase?

I know what you mean, I'm on Bismarck too. I did manage to have the Allied Ring...once. After that, no one even bothered to go after the Throne Room, then Abyssea killed Campaign altogether. I'd love to continue Campaigning, because I lose medals every time I go back to the past (Yeah, yeah, see above about I need to do WoTG)... I just don't feel like being run over roughshod by 20 Campaign mobs because ain't no one else in the area to help.

As a player who joined just last November, I've never tried Campaign, but the concept seems interesting. I just wish I could find more people willing to try it out with me!

Sounds like they're cooking up something for Campaign though, going based off what was said in the latest "FFXI Team Answers your questions!". Let's hope whatever they do makes it appealing for more people once again.

I have been begging for a Campaign update since Abyssea came out! Skill-ups <Yes please.> Double exp reward (not that I care, but it's like that everywhere else now), new lvl 80+ Allied Note rewards, etc.

Campaign was awesome. Bring it back.

I agree with everyone on this posting. I loved campaign. I mean, I would go in with my DNC and tank 16 mobs at a time on my DNC and gain 7k+ xp on just 20 minutes of a campaign battle! There was just some seriously fun times to be had in campaign and if they brought that back, I'd be stoked. It was nice to just go somewhere "different" for a change and do something different to have fun instead of the same ole drone of party xp. Now that Abyssea is that "drone xp" party just in a larger alliance setting, it'd be nice to have something like Campaign to fall back on. And YES PLEASE!!!!! on the whole skill up aspect of campaigning. That'd be sick!

The older players can shed light on this. Campaign had skill up abilities and people exploited the crap out of it with forts etc so SE changed it to remove skill ups

There are a few of us :), I spent the last three weeks doing quite a bit, especially last week at Grauberg when there were almost continuous battles in the one area Bastok owned, I also enjoy doing the city invasions when they're on.

That said, it was a shame SE chose to nerf campaign into a largely non-viable leveling system but eliminating skill-ups when un-tagged. :(

Or just skill-ups and the ability to get quested ws points during a fight would both give life to this dieing near dead animal.

Yes I would like to see Campaign come back, once you hit 60ish you had a place to go besides lvl sync parties (no one levels at there real level anymore). It would be a good area for Pre Abyssea and a nice change from Abyssea, but with no skill ups, it is as bad as lvl sync. I would really like to see something done, also I to had all the medals and now down quite a few.

Yes, I remember this, but they had to not have an allied tag to get the skill ups, so since monsters would not aggro them they were free to skill up all day, so just make the wall slower or no skill ups and make it where you cant attack or skill up unless you had the tag. Now i understand that this may be more coding than they are willing to do, however think of the hours coding campaign and its usefulness now..

I really like the idea of campaign, but even from the start i thougt it should have had skilling up possible. not all jobs could skill up effeciently back at 75. skill ups in campaign would have helped alot, and still could.

Yes, something needs to be done for both Campaign and Besieged ... I haven't seen a level 8 besieged in months. There may have been one or two in that time, but I wasn't online at the time, and apparently we lost. Highest I've seen in awhile was a level 5.

i truly truly , miss campaigns,it was very important to me for Skill-up and level, to me it was a place to go till i got an invite ,or just to solo at my leasure,and its hard for me to finish off WoTg,, because ,of all the new add-ons etc:What i like to know DOES SE even read these Forums? and another thing why wait for a huge Update ,when i would think ,wouldn't it be easier and faster to do some adjustments in small updates???

Thank the bard-bots. Because Square-Enix refused to ban them (see "fraud" quote I've put in a couple of other posts), they finally just had to remove that from the equation due to abuse.

Please, Square-Enix, do this with Besieged next.

Before Abyssea, I would say then that the penalties for losing and not retaining the Astral Candescence need to be (significantly!) increased.

The problem is: That can only work within the context of ToAU areas, and how many people are actually playing in ToAU these days?

Thankfully Besieged has/is always worthwhile on Siren, but our Campaign front is abysmal. Currently this week beastmen control every zone except for Meriphatuad Mts. Between the increased difficulty adjustment made to the mobs preventing level 60-70 players from actually having any hope of being able to fight on par with the forces, the complete and utter lack of incentive to retake lost zones because of the removal of the fortification skill ups and worthless EXP gain from wall bashing all compounded by the rather useless EXP gain rates overall in comparison to even soloing now; campaign has just become another sad lost and forgotten aspect of the game, much like chocobo racing, pankration, garrison, ballista and brenner.

There's simply no motivation to do it. It's been the eternal flaw of all MMOs, with new content comes the loss and degradation of the old content as its left out to rot for newer and shinier things.

What all these forgotten relics of the game really need is a new balanced reward incentive akin to current game standards set by Abyssea.

As far as your Besieged record goes on Siren, that's probably about the only reason more people play on Siren.

I've routinely seen less than 100 people doing Besieged on Leviathan recently, and they used to be one of the better servers before the "Let's Skill Up In Besieged" philosophy soured the playing field there too.

The fact is that there are two types of motivation: Encouragement and punishment. Abyssea provides the former -- perhaps quite too freely. I think losing zones or the Candescence might do well to provide the latter...

Im not sure I follow, I thought the bard-bots were for experience, not for skill. i know both were adjusted around same time but didnt think they were the same patch.

I know this is a bit of a necro, and I know there are other topics which have the same suggestion. However, I don't recall seeing any dev response to this specific request yet, so I'm going to add my $0.02.

I would also like to see skillups in campaign. When campaign was first added, it was a nice alternative method to xp. The treasure was a nice added bonus. As such, there needed to be some drawback to campaigning. Lack of skillups made sense.

Now, I don't need xp. There are so many great alternatives to xp, that I could care less about the xp caps going up on campaign. And if I want xp without skillups, I can leech in abyssea or even GoV. And the limited amount of treasure in campaign is not enough to motivate me to participate.

The fix? Add skillups. I need a place where I can go beat on things at fairly low risk, and gain skill with my weapons. I would even be willing do campaign for skillups in lieu of xp, so long as my efforts still counted toward medals/evaluations.

Actually, when Campaign first arrived there weren't any treasure drops, even back then there were no skill-ups with tags, then SE got spiteful and even removed the risky option to get skill-ups without tags.
