Character Name: Tumz
Race: Taru
World: Bahamut
Main Job: Rune Fencer
Support Job: Corsair
Area and Coordinates: Bastok Mines (J-7)
Party or Solo: Solo
NPC Name: Gumbah
Quest: Inheritance
Steps:
1. Grab Inheritance Quest
2. Drop Sword Of Trials
3. Can't get Sword back or Reset Quest

Note: I dropped this sword months ago and it couldn't be reclaimed by a GM and I'm stuck on this quest to unlock Ground Strike. I've talked to Gumbah a bunch and still doesn't give me the sword or has a way of resetting the quest. So I am stuck.

Is the quest still listed as an active quest?

If I remember right, you can cancel these to be able to start quests for other weapon skills, and you may only have one of them active at a time, so I would check if that is the case first.

Yeeah, you're going to want to check that, as well as retrace your steps on the quest. In most cases, it's an oversight or you skipped or forgot something.

In this case, if you started that quest but can't cancel it from Gumbah, it means you have another weapon skill quest active. You must either finish that quest or cancel it at the quest giver in order to try this one again.

You can only do one WSNM quest at a time. However, you can cancel it by talking to the NPC that gave you the quest

This is the quest and people say you can cancel them but I can't. It shows up under Bastok Mission Inheritance (Ground Strike Quest) and I have even gone as far of completing almost every quest in the zone.

Talking to Gumbah doesn't yield any options. Maybe because I've finished Voracious Resurgence which he was apart of... Either way I'm stuck. I think it is just bugged for me.

Okay, this one's a bit of a long shot, but... have you tried talking to him on other jobs? Rune Fencer specifically is tied to its own separate greatsword trial quest, so something might be making this one a bit fussy about letting Rune Fencers interact with it?

Well I thought I was implying this, but I'm thinking you have a different WS quest active that you've forgotten about. I wasn't suggesting you talk to the quest giver for the quest you're trying to do, but rather with the other quest givers you might have an active quest with- as was stated, only one of these quests can be active at a time.

You might be thinking you've never touched another one, but I'd like to ask that you check the other WS quests anyway, as unless you show that you've completed all of the others, it's still a possibility even if you don't think you have.

People post here at least once a week saying a quest is bugged and like 199 times out of 200, it was some sort of overisght, either a skipped step, quest was already completed, traded wrong item, another quest conflicting, etc. etc.

Yeah, I see the quest showing up in the second screenshot. I'm used to FFXI jank and played it pretty much since release. This seems like a legit bug and 1 out of the 200 posts you see here.

Talked to him on both a RUN and COR, I've done everything I can and here is a screenshot of the mission log for Inheritance:

Okay, the dialogue about Werei sounds like it should actually be related to the quest, so that should be where you're given the option to cancel it? Gumbah has a lot attached to him, but that doesn't seem like random unrelated chatter.

So yeah, if you're not getting that option, that sounds like something's broken in a dumb way. I know every time I tried to talk to Shantotto with the staff quest active, she'd ask me if I wanted to give up before I could get any mission-related dialogue.

Funny how stuff that hasn't needed to be touched in, like, twelve years or so just up and breaks out of nowhere sometimes.

Went ahead and tried it on a WAR and DRK as well.

On a fresh install on another PC.. still nothing.

I'm out of ideas.

That NPC is involved in several quests, you may have to talk to him several times repeatedly. Just in case you only did it once per visit.

You might not be completely entirely finished with something if you are still getting this dialogue. ^^

I've done everything I can and here is a screenshot of the mission log for Inheritance

While we can see from the screenshot that the quest is there, we can't see that it is indeed under the Current menu, but I imagine it is. Just thought I'd mention that. :]

I think that Werei dialogue is related to having completed (a) Bastok mission(s).

Please check if you have both temporary key items, the Weapon training guide and Map to the Annals of Truth.

I did some testing, and found myself in a similar situation, where I had the quest for Asuran Fists active, but no weapon... meaning I had completed the weapon skills part, but had not yet defeated the related notorious monster. At this stage the quest can not be cancelled.

As an additional note, if the weapon is dropped before the aforementioned phase, the NPC will give an option to receive a new one, or cancel the quest (the option to cancel will be given regardless of having the weapon or not).

I hope this will indeed be what is going on here as well!

(Thank you for the incentive to finishing up some unfinished business!)

Yeah. I remember not solving a past similar quest issue until seeing someone's key item's list. that was when I noticed they had a Key item they shouldn't have had based on their description, which identified the issue. There is strong potential for the situation Dragoy described to be the case.

THAT WAS IT! I somehow completed most of the quest and forgot to just kill the nm to finish the WS quest!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I really can't remember finishing the weapon skills part for Asuran Fists myself... but it done happened!

There's a unique possibility- If I'm not mistaken, the requirements for these quests was recently changed (reduced, I think) so it's also possible that the threshold hadn't been met before but now it has been.

Zenion

I don't think they changed the threshold yet (from the sounds of the upcoming update notes, they won't be changing it at all, just increasing the bonus that skillchains grant over the base 1/300 per weaponskill.) The last big change was making it impossible to get your weaponskill points on mobs that don't provide experience points, because macro test dummies.

Dragoy

Yeah, think that change is still up and coming.

Also, I no longer had the Knuckles of Trials, so I did indeed complete that part at some point, but left wrapping up for another time.
