View Full Version : Movement Speed for Everyone: Less Bolter's Roll, better Hermes Quenchers?

Hi SE,
Today, I think the biggest obstacle in FFXI for including players of all different job types in different kinds of content, is partially due to how Movement Speed+ effects are currently distributed. The issues are simple:

In-Game Observations:
Movement Speed effects do not stack together.
Everyone relies on Corsair for Bolter's Roll (up to +60% Movement Speed).
Effects like Bard's Mazurka and Summoner's Fleet Wind are deprioritized by players.
Hermes Quenchers do exist, but they only last 30 seconds and provide a dreadful 15-minute medicated status effect.

Possible recommendations:
Allow Mazurka and Fleet Wind to the reach the same amount of Movement Speed+ as Bolter's Roll.
Reduce Medicated Status effect from Hermes Quenchers to 30 seconds and increase Movement Speed bonus to 5 minutes.
Consider adding temporary items that improve movement speed options on a per-event basis (Sortie).

I know that Balance is important to everyone, and as such, I think more than 1 job (Corsair) should be able to provide the benefits of Movement Speed+ to a party, especially in a consistent and reliable way. In fact, I think if Beastmaster should buff party members, including giving party members a Movement Speed effect, as, this would encourage a lot of job variety and inclusion across FFXI.

Edit: Just to be clear, Yes, I'm aware of the importance of Chaos Roll and all of the benefits of including Corsair in a Party. I know that DPS performance technically takes precedence for how parties are constructed. However, Bard and Summoner also have party-based attack buffs of differing amounts and varieties. The purpose of this thread is to discuss how Movement Speed+ can be modified so that it is not an exclusionary criteria for building a party and making Job choices in End Game content, like Sortie and Odyssey, etc.

Thank you for reading!

Just to clarify, Bolters and Mazurka’s do stack, so allowing Mazurka to be equal to Bolters would not be possible.

Otherwise, more movement speed options couldn’t hurt, especially if it was equipment dependent as COR’s.
