Edit:
The November update has effectively broken this feature, and now targeting is even somehow worse than it was prior to this change, (which was initially amazing, and now is really bad.)

It is interesting they do this now.
Feels like it's something Fujito wanted to do for a long time, but never had the time to do, or not allowed to do due to what they were meant to do... so now they do what they finally can do.
I bet there are a lot more similar things he has in mind and in store to do!
Better late than never¿
It good.

I do find /jump to be a curious choice to map to a button though. I kind of hope that's an intermediate step to something like being able to define a one-line macro to assign to a button. But the select nearest NPC, that's... well I won't lie, if it works like F8 it will sometimes be frustrating, but I can't imagine playing the game without something like that, so it's nice to see it added even if I, as a keyboard player, won't use it.

I know it's probably not a supported platform, but I mostly play on Steam Deck. Initially the update made it so FFXI config didn't work at all, but after verifying and updating again I could use the new gamepad features. The in-game button is still grayed out but that's not a big deal.
I'm glad they're doing more for gamepad support. I hope they continue to work on it.

Granted I don't own a Steamdeck, but it works flawlessly on Linux in general. So it shouldn't be hard to get up and running.
Sounds like you got it working so that's good to hear.

That is someawhats curious as it does work fine on Linux here.
I'm not sure if there are other conditions for it, but the Gamepad button goes dark when the config utility is open, so maybe it for some reason thinks it is open...
Suppose it's a quirk specific to Steam Deck or/and their fork of Wine/Proton.

The latter sounds plausible. I'm using Wine-GE-Proton8-25 through Lutris and haven't had any issues with the game past year or two that I've been fulltiming Arch Linux (btw).

Please revert the changes (November 11th update) to the gamepad setting:
"Target nearby NPC"
The new change to focus enemies is even worse.
The major benefit of this feature was to target objects while avoiding targeting players.
Now instead of targeting objects instead of players, I'm targeting enemies malms away instead of the object right in front of me, which defeats the purpose of this feature to begin with.
The best option is to just have us targeting objects first, even if this means we have to deal with targeting trusts.
The trade off to target objects, then enemies is better when avoiding crowded areas, than targeting enemies in crowded areas, because the latter is much less frequent.
So, in short, please revert the changes back to how they were prior to the update. thank you.
Edit: To put this into context.
The change prior to November 11th:
Issues targeting mobs when trusts are around. (Only an issue during Domain Invasion type content.)
(Great in all other situations.)
Situation after November 11th Update:
Issues in all content and situations. (Except Domain invasion type content.)
(Feature only works good in towns with no enemies.)
