View Full Version : Elvaan mages armor is animated when casting, but not other races?

I've noticed this for years and always wondered if this was intended due to SE running low on money or PS2 limitations but it seem like Elvaans are the only race that when they cast magic their hair and armor or robes will become animated in the wind. Is this intentional or did Square-Enix forget to turn this function on for other races. For example, when a Hume RDm casts stoneskin with Warlock Tabard on, the armor remains static. When a Elvaan RDM casts stoneskin with the same armor, their hair will fly up and blow around and the slaps of the armor will also levitate and blow around.

Greetings Ophannus!

This is an interesting subject indeed! Perhaps all Elvaan just wear really loose robes. Well, let's find out for sure. If you wouldn't mind, please fill out the following template and we will send this in for review to see if the animation is supposed to react this way! It would be very helpful!

Thank you for your assistance and apologies for any inconvenience this may cause!

I don't think this is a bug but rather just a cosmetic feature they chose, for some reason, to be specifically on Elvaans. Don't know why they did so for them only.

I've always assumed that SE simply spent more time on Elvaans than the other races. More than likely the same animations were originally intended to be for all races but the animators responsible for that duty probably ran short of time during development and SE never saw it as an issue that needed addressing so they never went back to fix it.

Coincidentally, this is probably also why Elvaans actually seem to have some occasional animation quirks that other races don't. Such as the graphic glitch when we shoot bows and crossbows while getting hit, or how one of the great katana attacks has a very minor delay in hit animation vs. swing timing. The more time you spend on a certain thing the greater the odds that something will go amiss.

Steps:
1. Be any Elvaan Male
2. Cast any kind of White Magic or Black Magic
3. Compare to any other race using the same gear, casting the same spell.
4. Notice that the Elvaan's robes and armor and hair move in the wind, other races that have long hair don't move in the wind, they're just static and motionless.
