Something given away has less value than something you earn.People who log in tend to do more than just get the free carrot. that's the point of incentives to do so. The only reason this is an issue at all is because points from previous campaigns carry over to the next, so you can generally get the reward on day 1. It's hard to say if I'd want them to increase the cost though, because then I'd have less points to spend on anything else.
