View Full Version : Bug Wrangling Feedback Feedback

It seems that Square Enix has never been, and will likely never be one for transparency or responsiveness towards us, the useres, in which sense this is "working as intended". I don't think anything will ever change regarding that, but I do hope this will at least be forwarded out there, somewhere, for someone involved in this process to read. ^^

I am glad that we have the ability to report bugs via these forums at all, and that there is some visibility to us about the resolution... sometimes (via which forum a report is moved to).

However wishful thinking it may be, it would be nice to have some feedback on reports that go to "working as intended" specifically.

In recent times, I've started to wonder if that forum also gets reports placed into where the issue is known/confirmed, and while what was reported is not really intended, fixing it would require resources that are not available (something like "WONTFIX" or "CANTFIX").

Some examples that went to "working as intended", that seem varying degrees of odd for that, are Sakura biscuit text having changed from "ピヨ!" to "??!" [1], fishing being possible on dry land [2], incorrect alter ego names being displayed in the chat [3] (which was previously confirmed, twice, albeit not moved to Confirmed/Planning to Address, but it was at least being investigated; I suppose they never managed to re-produce it in production, or they gave up on it), and the menu cursor following the second (horizontal) chat window [4].

These have also made me wonder if I was somehow unclear in describing the conditions and/or the issue in general, and if there was any kind of feedback to our general direction, we would be able to clarify if need be.

There are [5] others [6] too (etc., could probably go on for a while), where it seems quite odd indeed if they really are intended to work as they do.

When I tried the "Eyre Cap", it did work for me, so I suspect it was either fixed betwixt the report and people reading the report, or there was something else amiss... in which case it was simply moved to an inappropriate forum. "Fixed" or "Unable to Verify" would probably have made more sense for that, from which the latter could also explain some of the other reports.

So, if there really are features that are not exactly working as intended, but they can not be fixed for a reason or another, an additional forum would help clarify things out (something along the lines of "Can Not Fix").

Even better would of course be to (also) receive feedback, some kind of reasoning towards the resolution of a report.

Thank you!

If you want I can probably give some insight into the sepecifc reasons for some of them, but you can be reasonably sure whatever was put there was put there for a reason, and that they're not simply ignoring you/others.

- The egg hunt event item: Maybe they didn't understand the jokes and thus didn't understand what the problem was from the submission the way it was written.

- Moghancements: I suspect their EXP gain was capped and this is why they didn't see the bonus?
- Fishing: I'm pretty sure the same is true of all areas with fishable bodies of water, there is no place where you can't fish and it's a zone-wide thing in all areas, even if it is odd here.
- Log windows: Probably deemed not to be a malfunction, even if we don't necessairly like how its behaving.
- Domain issue: This one I can 100% assure you is technical limitations of the netcode- i.e. a "wontfix" because they would need to rewrite the netcode to accomidate the volume of data events like this can potentially generate.

However,
- Sakura: This one honestly confuses me too, because it really doesn't look like an intentional change.

Yeah, I indeed am more than reasonably sure that there is a reason, but sharing that with us is what I'm after. I feel bug reporting works best two-ways, we report them, and they report back to us, but I am also reasonably sure that other larger companies are more or less the same. I mainly work with open-source and smaller game developers, which tend to be... well, more open. :]

I suppose that's a possibility, but I at least hope it isn't eggsactly the case.

Seems plausible; I'm not entirely familiar with these particular effects and their limits myself at this time.

- Fishing: I'm pretty sure the same is true of all areas with fishable bodies of water, there is no place where you can't fish and it's a zone-wide thing in all areas, even if it is odd here.

I do not know of any other area where it is possible to whip out the rod via the /fish command without facing a body of water. The 'Fish' menu option is normally hidden as well in such cases.

That one I am very much thinking of re-reporting, trying to be extra clear about it.

- Log windows: Probably deemed not to be a malfunction, even if we don't necessairly like how its behaving.

Yeah, but I'm very much not keen on accepting that it is an intended feature of the game, working just like they want. Hence I think some other forum title would be appropriate.

I recently noticed something similar, though probably a different issue, where the menu selection moves up in the 'Quest' menu while in battle (I think it was the 'Vana'Bout' list I was on; I didn't have a chance to look into that more yet, and now I can't pay for the game due to their payment system changes... <grumble grumble>).

- Domain issue: This one I can 100% assure you is technical limitations of the netcode- i.e. a "wontfix" because they would need to rewrite the netcode to accomidate the volume of data events like this can potentially generate.

One of the questions I got from the GMs regarding this, was if it still happens after the latest update, so I believe there's a chance that they at least attempted to do something about it.

But yeah, it might be abandoned, and the old reports have been left lingering in the Accepted Bugs limbo with so many others... which is unforunate.

However,
- Sakura: This one honestly confuses me too, because it really doesn't look like an intentional change.

Indeed. I forget if it happened when they added the food effects to the item(s). One really silly idea I had about it, is that they can't display kana in there any longer after that change.

Even if that was true, however, why would they not have changed it to "Piyo!" instead?

The fact that it is "??!" really looks like a character encoding issue, where the kana comes out as "??".

(Also kinda funny how this one is where I had the Let's see this one be "working as intended" too remark...)

Thank you for your comments!

I wouldn't be afraid of reposting- but try to add additional information if possible and or try to make things more clear/concise.

Yeah, I suppose I kind of thought the video demonstration would make it clear enough, but I'm not sure they even watch such things, which in part is why I feel I may not have been exactly as clear as I could have been there. ^^;
