As far as I am aware, there is no way to watch the beautiful FMV movie, other than watching a blurry cropped version on youtube, or by starting again.
FF XIV has an option from the main menu, I think it would be nice if there was a similar option in FF11.
Of course if its already there and I just haven't found it yet, I apologise for spamming the forum.

Another thing about the opening movie (when you start FFXI) Whenever i let it run say, 20-30 seconds into it when i skip it or watch it then hit the "I Agree" botton i get booted off for timing out

playonline folder > FFXI > FFXI config file > misc > tick show intro movie and it'll play every time you start ffxi.

He mentioned that in his post, he was asking for alternative means. Something outside of the game that doesn't require to start the game, or something inside the game that doesn't require to quit.

I turned the intro off because i would get an error and be booted at the "I agree" screen.

it started to do that with an update long ago, I do not think it always did that because i used to watch it. I never got why that happened i thought my pol was bugged or something

IIRC, the video is a plain MOV or AVI file in the game folders, that you can play with any decent media player.

Where did he mention that? Anyway, yeah, you can set the opening movie to play every time you start the game in the config program.

At least that's what I thought he meant.

It's a PMV file...think it was similar to H264. Couldn't find a standalone player for it--VLC player tries to open it, but tanks. DivX threw up on it too. My old PS2 Movie Player (SKS) didn't recognize the extension either.

Start>Programs>FFXI Config
There is an option in the config tool to make the video play when the game starts up. I didn't see any evidence that the OP was aware of it. Of course, I think this only works on the PC.

OP is aware, also you have the issue of timing out when you try to watch it. plus the game is defult to show it. (you have to logout and relog in the game to see it, not hitting something from menu)
so he is aware and not the issue.

"Starting again" = Creating a new character/account or re-installing the game.
He brought up FFXIV (not FFXI) because it has a "view opening movie" option, which you have to LOG OUT of the game to select.

well it does not make sense he is saying he needs to reinstall it because it is defaulted to show it. If he knows how to stop showing the movie he knows how to turn it back on, so I do not get how the case can be that he does not know about the config.
Ffxiv does not close out your game the login for ffxiv and ffxi is different so I thought he was talking about that.

No. The intro movie button is on the title screen in FFXIV, which is after you log in.

Of. The. Game.
Title Screen = Not in game.
You are technically logged into Playonline still if you log out of the game.

there is 2 points of "log in"
the point you input pw and name, and the point you enter the game with the chr
so my take he was talking about once you are log in with chr you have to log out to watch the movie
