I'm not a MNK, so sorry if this a stupid question within the MNK community, but does countering enemy hits gain you enmity instead of losing it, like with a normal hit taken? Or does it not affect enmity at all?

Countered hits do not affect Enmity at all. They are hate-free.

That is not true, each counter deals damage, and that damage causes hate build up. With an ultion mantle counter can easily become over half of your firepower as monk, allowing you to produce massive amounts of hate if your counterrate is holding. Now you are much less durable in counterstance mode. Thus, if you counterrate is not holding, you will take massive damage in return and lose emnity much faster.

Wrong. Counter DOES deal damage, but that damage is hateless. However, because you countered instead of taking damage, you don't lose hate for being hit.
