Over an hour wait on a Wednesday morning. Over 3 hours on a Friday night. Can we get more instance servers pls.

Certain region has a large solo or lowman population. Only way to fix is is to increase the entry requirements to 3 members at this point. Otherwise, you have to deal with it.

If I had to guess, the wait times will be a lot less when they add the next line of Mlev with the next patch.

It is a "population on the server". I'm on Sylph & seems to be fine for me, playing from UK with the americans popping on in the evenings. I think in fact they should increase the amount of gal we receive so the elite players can complete their sets so when they're done, the rest of us can get on with ours. Also, I do find the Ruspix plate thing confusing. It should be exactly like the moglophone temp KI & we pick one up when it reaches 20 hrs. We can then exchange it for shiny plate at any time, instead of waiting for the timers to run out. That may be able to alleviate some pain.

No. I want them on all other servers. Balanced populations > huge and small populations. Everyone has a more similar experience, there's no issues caused by overcrowding nor not enough people. EVERYONE'S experience will be better. You don't have to wait and people elsewhere get a better economy, more people to play with, etc.

Instead of addressing the symptoms which only users of that server are experiencing, they should be addressing the root cause of the problem.

Running an mmorpg isn't just about what is the best gameplay, it's also taking into account human nature. Forcing changes to Asura would cause a lot of players to leave, including me.

That's not something you say when you like the way things are. If people move, there will be more people wherever they go. No one likes waiting hours for sortie, no one likes not being able to find an ML grinding camp, no one likes a million RMT bots. They *sign up* to asura because either they know someone there or becuase Reddit recommended they go there, and no other reason. Asurans created the problems they're having by piling on that server. The game was not designed for the player load Asura has. Even at FFXI's peak, no server had as many players as Asura has now.

Ultimately, you have no right to complain about the problems Asura has if you "like it that way." These are problems that purely exist because of the overpopulation. Meanwhile, on other servers, we get punished with the loss of features that worked just fine just because Asura can't handle it. And you all want special fixes that only your server needs that will affect everyone.

Some people want a bigger populated world and will accept numerous negatives to get that, they will still complain though cause that's human nature.

Hundreds of players is not zero players. I do sortie every day that I log in, and I have no problem finding people to do it with (if I want to form a party). I do not have a static. I'm in a linkshell that's mostly full whenever I'm on it. It's easy. And Zero waiting to get into sortie.

I feel like because of the number of bots on Asura that they think, "oht, there's 400 players online on this server, they must all be bots." No. Asura has disproportionately more bots for the number of actual players. Every server has bots, yes. But Asura has more as a percentage, I guarantee you.

I've been on Shiva since I started playing (within a month or so of the US launch). I've never felt the need to transfer to a more heavily populated server, either because I can't do content or being unable to find items I need on the AH. Lately we're sitting on 6-800 concurrent users (and that's still thousands of users over 24 hours). I can ask my linkshell or yell and find people to do whatever is popular no problem. You don't need 3000 players online to accomplish anything.

Now imagine if the top three servers (all well over 1000 spread their population amongst the rest, probably every current server would be sitting around 1000 or so, which is right on par with the way things were more than a decade ago.


Ultimately, there is a choice. Ausurans are just blind to that fact (if every one of them is using your logic, which I think sells the average player short.)



Balancing the servers would cause a loss of players.No, it wouldn't. It would result in a better experience for everyone, and would far more likely gain players for the game.

Players that hop on Asura right now will likely find frustration waiting for content and competing with bots for EXP camps. That would be a thing of the past after balancing populations.

Players on most of the other servers currently would see an increase in population and an increase in items available on the AH, while still not having lengthy waits for content, because no server would be exceeding what the game was designed to handle.

From where I stand, everyone, and I mean everyone, gets a better experience if no server has too many or too few players. I promise you, your experience will be better. My experience will also be better (as long as we're not in the same party, probably). Seriously, everybody wins.

And sure, some people do want to be amongst big crowds all the time, that still doesn't mean it's healthy for the overall game as a whole. My suggestion to such people would be to play a game that's better built and designed to handle the size of crowds they find ideal. FFXI isn't good at handling crowds because of netcode and graphics engine limitations. FFXI's maximum display limit is what... 25 PCs/mobs/NPCs I think? Most modern games you can play today allow for a lot more.

The point is, FFXI wasn't really designed for the population that Asura has, And back when FFXI was at its most popular, no server had the population Asura currently has, I'm quite sure of it. And I promise if you took those people you say want to go where the crowds are and plugged them in to any random server after evening out the populations they wouldn't know the difference without using /sea all.

For sortie they disabled the automatic transport feature when your instance is ready (such that people who aren't alert and paying attention don't take up instance space I guess). But this applied to everyone on all servers, even though it was only really relevant for Asura. The rest of us got punished for a problem Asurans manufactured.

I’m on Phoenix and it’s a wonderful balance of players. Always people available to form parties to do whatever you want, the AH is always full of goodies, and there’s no wait times to do anything you want.

It's no different, people on ff14 will take lower FPS and lag to be in the busy place.

Some people like worlds with more people around, there is a psychological desire for that experience.

It's not universal but it does exist and "balancing" worlds would cause people to quit, since the game is no longer giving the experience they want.

I and many others like Asura the way it is, warts and all. I understand your point and why you're making it, it's a common sense outlook on running an mmorpg, I'm taking the emotional view that is just as important to retaining players.

Wow did somethintg similar a while ago when they added sharding, it phases players into additional layers when it gets too busy and was a common sense move to reduce lag in major cities. Then players started saying the world feels barren to them, again many were fine with it but a percentage hated it.

Look ive said this way too many times already: I'm not suggesting they force people to do anything. All they need to do is copy FFXIV's system of marking worlds as "Congested" and "Preferred." Offer bonuses for creating characters on preferred worlds, and offer free transfers from worlds marked as congested, with relaxed limits on gil transferrable, etc. It won't solve overnight, but it will make plain to people who can't see it that the world(s) are officially overcrowded. Give bonuses to EXP and whatnot for a period of time after transferring off, free passes for content with costs associated with it, etc. I can guarantee you at least some percentage of people would transfer for p erks like that (and being able to take more gil with them will boost the economies of the servers they transfer to). They should end the occasional sales on server transfers and instead have high-to-low-pop transfers always free and other transfers always full price.

FFXIV already does all this and it works- it proves especially effective at populating new servers as well (though that's not something FFXI has to deal with sadly)


This one would be more controversial but maybe a free wardrobe for a period of time could be another perk, which might even have the perk to SE of increasing sales for it later.

And you seemingly glossed over the fact that I posed the question to my linkshell if anyone here thought they couldn't accomplish what they wanted to accomplish here. No one said they couldn't.

And 600 concurrent users is still thousands over the course of a day. It's also an increase over a few years ago, and I've seen it over 1000 during free campaigns.

I'm 100% okay where I am. There's minimal bots by comparison, and I can still get things done. No troubles finding EXP camps (quality of parties may vary), etc. But we can certainly have more and it won't be detrimnetal. Optimal current pop to me is probably around 1000 +-100.

A few hundred off the three biggest servers would significantly cut down on those 1-2 hours Sortie queues, while we can definitely accept more players before there's any wait at all.

Something people really do need to keep in mind is that FFXI is not a pure PVE game, it's what you can call a competitive PVE game.

What I mean by that is that unlike most modern PVE games everything on FFXI is limited, and you have to compete to access them. It has always been this way, and for players that don't want to bother with that a smaller server is always going to be better to them.

If you want to mine or kill a random NM, other people want it too and if they get it you're not. If you want to gain merits or job points at your fav spot, someone else might be there. If you want to make an EMP, you're going to have to fight for it on Asura because others want it. If you want to enter any content, it's limited.

It's really no different today than it was 10 years ago when we were fighting over king drops.

Asura is dog eat dog, other servers are far less stressful.

But we can try to min-max the downsides and upsides.. Which is why I said that merges or splits are not a great solution. Both will cause a group of people to be very upst. But when you provide a solution that's totally voluntary, You aren't likely to upset anyone, and conditions will at least modestly improve on both the highest and lowest pop servers.

The goal here is to reach an equalibrium, an optimal state. Optimal != perfect, but rather just "best possible." There is no perfect solution. But the only downside from offering free transfers off certain servers is a little less money for SE (But they're still getting money from people who transfer TO those servers).

That's not something you say when you like the way things are. If people move, there will be more people wherever they go. No one likes waiting hours for sortie, no one likes not being able to find an ML grinding camp, no one likes a million RMT bots. They *sign up* to asura because either they know someone there or becuase Reddit recommended they go there, and no other reason. Asurans created the problems they're having by piling on that server. The game was not designed for the player load Asura has. Even at FFXI's peak, no server had as many players as Asura has now.

Ultimately, you have no right to complain about the problems Asura has if you "like it that way." These are problems that purely exist because of the overpopulation. Meanwhile, on other servers, we get punished with the loss of features that worked just fine just because Asura can't handle it. And you all want special fixes that only your server needs that will affect everyone.

It is not a healthy situation, period. Balanced. Populations. Serve. Everyone. Better.

You know I'll say it. I don't care for asura. too many bots (pink bird camp) after this coming week I'll be going back to ragnarok while I have a few friends. I do worry about finding a decent ls. Also I find it hard to find a good quality ls... (ones that don't poke at me over my afterglowed ochain ) I'm tired of the lower end player base that is asura. While my xp isn't everyone's I do feel people are over looked by most cause of rampant rmt issues. Why level with me when I can work sleep and get NY masterlevels.

When I appearsed after a few weeks of inactivity, someone recognized me from days of yore, invited me to an LS and it was basically full and they do pretty much all the popular content regularly. the community is tighter on other servers and when a new chellenger appears, you can almost expect that the big groups on the server will find you without you even trying. Even then, most make use of the concierge and it's easy to get started.

It's a never ending game of whack a mole and that's with a game's team doing everything it can. You can limit the impact, but you can't eliminate it entirely.

Again the congestion issues on Asura are only really between 6 and 9PM PST, or 9PM and midnight EST. Basically anytime folks in both major population zones are playing at once. 7PM EST is smooth sailing for us.

Ok so I just want to let you know (if you care) I've reconnected with 2 friends and I have have fun with them. That said there's way too much drama for a game in its twilight years. It also has lot less bots then asura thou it's a very heavy jp server. If our paths ever cross I hope we could be friends.

It's all fine, I just want to emphasize to people that it really isn't that hard to make and find friends on any server. The people on servers like mine are always actively looking for the new and returning players, and just because it's a smaller community it doesn't mean people can't make friends, get stuff done and enjoy the game. Having said that, if someone has old friends in game or something like that, I of course encourage friends to stick together.
