Ok I was just thinking about this but really, BLU magic kinda is a bit of a fail, I mean granted you can boost it a shit ton and make it ok, but your always going to be topped by SCH or BLM. So why not introduce an ability recastable every 5 mins, lasting 1 minute that works like MNK's Formless Strikes but applied to BLU. Meaning you use this ability and your physical spell's damage is converted to Magical damage. This way your dropping a 3k Q.C. in magic damage rather then physical.

Good idea. I can see using that for various NM's or physical resistant mobs, Like flans, clots or elementals.

SCH or BLM also don't have melee damage + WS (that is significant) and their spells don't take 0.5~0.75s to cast :p

Where are you being allowed to melee on things?

In Abyssea, I find that BLU aren't allowed to melee on things unless it's an XP party where things die in 20 seconds or less anyway. For NMs, we tend to be kept around for proccing and are told not to feed TP to the NM with melee or spells.

BLM don't just out-damage us.... they can cast spells outside of TP move range while adding very little TP, meaning they are far more valued regardless of the fact that they take longer to do it.

So I agree with the OP. We need something to make us relevant. Heck, I'd be happy with 30 seconds of an effect like Formless Strikes for our spells.

Ya thats really the issue is that although we have great damage dealing spells and we can do some good DD damage, most mobs are not the type you want to TP on or give TP to. If we were able to convert Physical spells into magic (of course they would still be based off their stats such as STR and DEX to make them still very effective) we would be of greater use then what we are now as simply Proc tools.

If physical dmg is not cutting it, you have the option of dealing good magic damage as well. Get a build for Charged Whisker and Everyone's Grudge. You'll deal dmg on par if not better than any BLM or SCH.

Although Almace users just get to tear shit up with the oversized sword.

Even so, for those of us that are Physical Magic BLU's, this would be extremely beneficial.

Even without an 85 Almace (yet) I'm still allowed to melee on blu. Usually varies group to group, mainly cause they have all seen how bad the job can be played and would rather not take the chance. A well geared and common sense blu can melee without almace, but you'll do a good deal more with an 85 almace. Probably the biggest issue with blu is people forget just how much TP the spells feed and only gear to do spell damage rather than melee/ws damage too.

This is a good suggestion on those stubborn NM that have nasty AOE or are just physically resistant to damage. A good mage build and right atma can put blu up there with Blm, and in some cases surpass a blm. Some of the spells allow for up to 21 range away casting, other 15, and some of the newer ones 12' (just out of normal AOE range).
