View Full Version : Sortie on Popular Servers

Good Evening,
As it stands right now Sortie is a piece of content players are having to wait upwards of 2 hours to do on busier severs, like Asura. It is not acceptable that we have to sit in a zone for 2 hours to do nothing just to play your newly released content.
You are the people in control of servers and you are the ones who have let this particular server get out of hand, so you need to be the ones to implement a fix or a solution if you are going to continue to release content like this as right now it is not acceptable for an MMO in which we have to pay for to sit around doing nothing.

I reccomend a server transfer. It will solve your problem very easily. :D
I think you meant to say "overpopulated servers" rather than "popular servers."
0 wait on Shiva. :)

Oh give it a break, remember when yall did this for Shinryuu? SE came in and made a dumb change to make it 30 merits, and within a month everyone forget it existed.

So the first recommendation is pay Square Enix even more money to transfer to a different server, despite it being them that let Asura get this way?
And the second is to just assume their incompetence is unable to implement a fix.
Got it

The first recommendation is to continue to give them money monthly for a service you aren't happy with.

Well part of the issue, at least on asura, is that there are people going into sortie solo. This increases the line. If more would team up, I bet the line would be shorter. Yes it is their choice to go solo, which is fine, I'm all about freedom of choice, just that in this case it does hurt the server in general by increasing the wait times.
Everyone in party gets same drops directly, as long as they are in range. Same points for everyone, you kill more as a party so I don't see any advantage of going solo, other than you can do it on your own time, without waiting for anyone else.

Make Sortie 3-6 players until the queue calms down or more instances are added. Vagary and Delve are still 3+ for this reason.

This is the answer for some immediate relief.

We used to have this sort of issue with Ambuscade to a lesser extent. Which was only because players took half as long at most or mere minutes at best. In this case we have an hour of time for soloers. It was inevitable this happen with Sortie, and there's no shame in correcting course to make it 3 players plus until they figure out other congestion solutions. Besides, reducing the barriers to access is generally a courtesy for players that refuse to team up while rewarding the community for coming together before that. Unfortunately, players only care about themselves and be "upset" if they were told "no, there aren't enough instance for you to solo for an hour."
That or make it so trusts can't be used like in salvage. Encouragement like this is a fair compromise in taking steps to keep it "soloable".

There is nothing wrong with the queue on other servers. But please have SE change this so I can quit for good.

I mean, I've been saying for a long time they should offer free trnasfers off high pop worlds to low pop worlds.
The only "fix" to this issue is for the load to be reduced. They could temporarily make it minimum 3 people, that's about the only fix they can just do.

I don't see any indication they plan to make any changes here. Things will settle down before too long.

They made a change yesterday. Wait is now 0 on Asura after being 50 pages or more deep. They most likely had to have changed the instance availability because it was staying ~0-2 pages for the whole Friday evening.

The developers fixed the queue on Asura without interfering with anybody else's experience? You love to see it!

The server issue isn't as simple as people make out, we don't all live in the same time zones, I was on Levi for years, never thought I'd leave, but it got ridiculous, sub 250 people on in eu times, I can't say what it's like now, but when I left it was out of desperation.

Yeah, but don't you want to make yourself feel better about short term crowding in the face of long term desolation? It's trendy right now. It's like making fun of NYC for being crowded while having to drive 60 minutes to the nearest subpar grocery store in Wyoming.

Thank you development team. I was excited about doing Sortie. Yet again you have not learned from your past mistakes. Another battle content. Another 2 hour wait to do it. This is a repeating motif. I would hope that if given another 20 years, you could actually develop a bit more intelligence. Not likely. So I do want to thank you for making another piece of content that wastes so much of our time.

my entry into sortie has nearly always been instant (and yes, I see people coming and going, even here on Shiva, it's seeing plenty of activity. It's just not overloaded.)
Server populations. Balance them, SE.

I think the 5+years of complaints about overcrowding is a little past "short term"
Server populations. Balance them, SE.
If people keep asking them to balance populations, they're going to do forced server merges.

They can't just kick everyone off to a random server. It's not happening. This is squarely the Devs fault for how they set up the event. They knew how the burden would look after ambuscade, Omen, and Odyssey. It's no one's fault but theirs.

But there might not be a technically viable solution. What do you suggest? The solutions I can see are:
1) Increase the number of available instances for all servers, which would leave a big surplus of instances on every server other than Asura.
2) Increase the number of available instances for Asura only.
3) Require a minimum number of players to enter.
#1 and #2 might be possible or might not. I think it's arrogant for us to make the assumption that it is definitely easy to do. #3 will just screw people on other servers simply because Asurans chose to go where a problem exists.

Even if there wasn't a viable technical solution behind the scenes. It means that you adjust the requirements in game. Increase points and add a longer cool down, make the minimum requirement 3. Etc. If the game can't meet the backend requirements of a single player one then they have to take it into consideration.

They can't just kick everyone off to a random server. It's not happening. It has happened before.
Regardless, if they handled this properly like FFXIV does, by offering free transfers off higher pop servers to help balance populations, they wouldn't need to punish people on lower pop servers for problems that only exist on higher pop servers.
This is all aside from the fact that I really don't see how disabling the auto transport feature does much of anything to solve congestion.
They have never done this for Ambuscade, or Omen, which has the same duration. I don't know why this "solution" is necessary for Sortie when it hasn't been needed for any other popular battle content.
If people keep asking them to balance populations, they're going to do forced server merges.
Whatever it takes. While it might have sounded like a good idea back then, it was clearly a mistake to ditch the world pass system. That system specifically existed to keep server populations balanced.

Only thing I can really think of, is that they noticed AFK people often getting in and not doing anything, and they hope that cutting those out will help a little...
It took quite a while to get in the times I tried on Fenrir, but it was pretty fresh still. Not sure about the now (depends on the time of day a bunch of course too).
