View Full Version : Should assist be retooled as a general help channel for all?

Assist chat is a good system to help players, sadly it runs out too soon.
What do you think about extending the duration you can use it to open to all instead of how it currently is?
We have mentors now that can moderate the channel.

I think its useless, I see like a handful of people asking questions and nobody is able to respond outside of /tell

I agreed. Being helpful is tiring due to a lack of the modern UI. I was training a new player slowly and practicing the basic of the battle system to help understand better but it didn't turn out well.

which is kind of the point I'm making, it should be open to more people.

The only thing I think they need to do with the assist channel is make it global. You should be forced to stay in town while someone is trying to guide you through YZ mission or whatever you're asking / giving support on.

Agreed, it should be changed into something else. My wish for the 20th anniversary is that they incorporate changes seen on modern texture packs and programs like Windower4 into the base game and for them to bring back the optional new interface project they once had going strong and given up on.

I agree with this. A general help chat, if well though out and incorporated, would help new players. Many new players can't get into a good, well populated and helpful LS easily and give up on the game.

We've already seen RMT being advertised in it before.
Expansion of it any more means more RMT advertisements, just like in shout.

True but there is no reason to do it, because we can silence them and they can see yell anyway.

Trying to advertise RMT in the assist channel is stupid because people are only in there if they choose to be, which is entirely different from /yell which is always available to everyone unless you specifically choose to hide it. Especially with the current situation where it's only available in the same places /yell is, there is literally no advantage, and it is possible to remove people from the channell.
I actually don't know how new characters are introduced to the channel; but in FFXIV, mentors must invite new players into the channel, which more-or-less keeps RMT out, since only a moron would invite an RMT bot to join and most bots dont even have a script to handle that in the first place. Plus they can easily be kicked out.

The reason RMT have bothered is because people turn off shouts to avoid the RMT shouts.
New characters are urged to visit the NPC to introduce them to it immediately on zoning into the relevant areas every time they zone in to the area.

It should be by invite as it is in FFXIV. that is a simple and fairly effective way to keep RMT out since they can only get in if a real player invites them., which most people wouldn't do.
It still doesn't make sense for RMT to seek it out though- as I said, you have to choose to be in it, and for existing players who become mentors, well you have to go through a whole process to be one- it's a lot of work for someone to get in just for the sake of hoping to filter RMT shouts. They can reach new players, maybe, but it's a poor way to reach their probable customer base.

The majority of players that are the target audience for RMT don't know how to do that.
