I've played FFXI for about 7+ years now and in that time have pretty much ignored all other MMO's that came out happy with the game I'm playing.

In the past year+ I've become more and more worried about the long-term life of FFXI (3-5+ years), what with the release of 14 (even though it failed pretty amazingly, the fact the company made a sequel gives off a bad signal) and the current somewhat broken state of the game. Would it be possible for us to get some kind of statment that FFXI will still be fully supported past the current stated 1 year roadmap? By this of course I mean in terms of fully fleshed out and regular updates adding a lot of content and indeed addons/expansions in the future.

For me FFXI is not a stopgap till they possibly make XIV respectable, I'll never move to that game. XI is my Square MMO and if it turns out that the game won't get the proper attention it deserves I'll be investing my time either in other current games like Rift or some of the upcoming big name titles. A position I'm already at with my faith in the game being a lot more shakey than it ever has been before.

Can we get some statements about long term support for FFXI by the company and as I said not just piecemeal/bare minimum additions/support for the game but full blown support?

I would happily play XI for a long time to come if it's going to continue to be properly supported. I know the company said they would run XI as long as it was viable but there is a huge different between that and an MMO fully supported (updated and added to very regularly as XI always has been).

Before anyone says it, I know how old FFXI is and that has no effect on it being properly supported. It has a large userbase (compared to most MMO's), has long since paid for itself being now almost pure profit and still charges a full monthly subscription.

I'm only sticking around until level 99 to see what it can do. After that I expect to see what they plan on doing about new zones and jobs. Not just another new battle area to gather pointless equipment to no end.

If nothing is announced I'll just keep it cancelled and focus on the gorgeous Tera online.
