I remember trying to raise my fame to get a Atma that I wanted. So, I finished all quests (cept 1) in Abyssea Grauberg and killed the main boss... now, after all this, my fame was still 1.. I needed to get it to fame lvl 3 in order to get the quest that I wanted activated.
Is it just me, or does this seem kinda lame? I mean, I remember farming for Utsusemi: Ichi and I had to raise the fame in Norg. And to do that I had to repeat a TON of quests. (Turning in Yagudo quests I think) I cant figure out why SE wants to keep this tradition.
When you finish all the missions/quests, shouldnt everyone in that zone, example Abyssea Grauberg, Norg know you by then? Repeating quests and missions is so frustration IMO.
I think SE needs to reevaluate theyr Fame-consept and make it easyer for people to raise it. Make it quest based please, not repeatable-based. As soon as you finish some quests, you get a higher fame, rather than finishing all the quests, then you may get 1 whole level of fame... >_>
Everytime when I hear old friends come back to FFXI on a new character or if someone start a new avatar, they say "Well, /sigh, time to raise that Norg fame again for the Utsusemi: spell...."
This just dosent seem right to me...

I think the Amount of Fame per-quest could be upgraded a little, i mean little, But as it stands with any sort of Effort you can build max fame in each zone within ~1 days of effort (A lot less if you're hard-core about it). Its a simple enough system with probably less tedium than other systems in place. Heck i had fun Fishing up the Items i needed in La'Theine, the other zones have easily repeatable quests as well. I know one zone has you collect Manigordo Fangs, In Grauberg(S) once you complete a certain quest, you can trade in the Wyvern-Wings-things(the (R) ones) for Cruor/fame, that ones pretty easy to do.
Its a tedious system, what isn't in an MMO, but it requires little effort, I think its decent as is :O

Having just gone thru the process of getting max fame in all abyssea zones I can tell you that some quests do seem to give more fame than others but that's probably because they were easily repeatable. The zone I had the easiest time was Uleg and the hardest was Atto, but in the end if you do enough of the repeatable ones you will max out (at the cost of many many stones). Don't give up, it can be done.

Argh, thanks XD
Just hate repeating stuff I already have done :/

Just finished Abyssea Konschtat Highlands 100%. Its was fun most of the time yeah, but now I have to cap my fame in the other 8 zones as well >_>
I still think that the repeater quests should not be repeated that often in order to cap the fame. If SE wants us to spend a certan amount of time to complete a zone, a solution to this could be more quests. Repeating quests over and over so I can later do more quests that I enjoy, is kinda... I dunno, taking advantage?
I realize its a game and SE want us to keep spending alot of time in it, but the fame... Man, that progresses sooo slow >_> There have been many times I have been at the point where I dont enjoy questing anymore, because of so much repetition. Which is also one of the reasons I take so long to finish something in FFXI. (not counting Main Missions ofc. They are always new and you dont have to repeat them to progress:) I feel I need to do something else for a while, before I continue with "the-boring-stuff" / AKA repetaing quests...

Need to look at it differently. It isn't Fame, it's Reputation. If you search the wiki for "fame", it redirects you to Reputation.
Just meeting and greeting people allows a lot of people to get to know your name (fame), but helping people out a lot builds your Reputation. THAT is what you're trying to do--make people talk good about you and build up your reputation. Look at the dialogue tracks as your reputation builds and it makes more sense:
...Oh, excuse me. I was just counting my cruor. <Name>? Never heard of you. If you want to make yourself useful, why don't you help that chef girl with her bean stew? I've worked up an awful-wawful appetite.
<Name>...? I might have heard that name somewhere. He hasn't done anything for me, though, so I promptly-womptly forgotaru it!
So you're <Name>. Yes, I've heard the occasional rumor aboutaru you. You'll have to keep working hard, though, if you want to become as wealthy--I mean, as famous--as me!
Ah, <Name>. Your generous deeds have won you quite a few fans around camp these days. When this camp prosper-wospers, so too do my fortunes. For all our sakes, keep up the good work!
Well, if it isn't <Name>. You've made quite a name for yourself, haven't you? Don't you feel lucky that I picky-wicked you out of the scrap heap and set you on your way to stardom?
Well, look who we have here! None other than the illustrious-wustrious <Name>, hero of the desert! Your mere presence does this humble merchantaru an honor, I would trade my entire fortune-wortune for you to always stay by our side! Er, make that half my fortune...

Yes, I realize that I may be looking at it in the wrong way since noone agrees with me ; ;
But, I think that, when you finish all quests and missions.. shouldnt that be enough for people to talk good about you and have your fame capped? If not capped, then 50% capped would atleast be nice. Finishing all quests in abyssea may raise your fame level 1... or 2 in the right zone.
So getting about 1/5-ish in fame, after helping everyone... that is what you get... That just dosent feel right to me. I would understand it if you got 4/6 or 5/6 after compleating everything 100% and then repeat some quests, but only 1/6th or 2/6?... no, I dont think thats fair against players. Its making you "work" to have "fun" later, after your fame has been raised 3 levels...
Its ok to "work" hard to finishing a difficult missions (like the CoP storyline. Gawd, I miss that:) ), but its not when you need to raise your reputation (as you say:) I think I would prefer calling it "Repetition"XD) too then have fun later >_>
(BTW, I appretiate your inputs all^_-)

so....you give good customer service to a dozen people and win employee of the year? No... you have to kiss a lot of @$$ to earn that recognition. Likewise, you don't become a hero for an entire nation just helping 15 people out just a few times--you have to bust your hump for a long time to gain that reputation.

"Your reputation level determines which quests you can start; NPCs are reluctant to trust a complete stranger with any but the most trivial of tasks. You gain reputation by completing quests, which in turn opens up more quests that you can do to earn more reputation. With a good reputation, the NPCs will feel comfortable asking you to do difficult tasks with correspondingly greater rewards."
The ffxiclopedia.com's description of what Reputation, also called Fame, is...
If only this was true. The description should have said instead "... You gain reputation by repeating quests , which in turn opens up more quests that you can do to earn more reputation... your reputation is greatly dependant on repetition and not the amount of different quests you finish within a city/nation."
Having 10 levels in abyssea would have been a better consept I think. When you finish all quests in a zone, you get 1 fame level (just like you do today). Then your fame lvl would be lvl 2 in each zone. Sharing the fame level in this way would have been a much better alternative IMO. And when you have finished all the quests ,you still would have 9/10 wich would lead to a litle repetition (lets say 9 more quests) and you would be capped.
Much better approach I think.

If you are gonna kiss alot of @$$ as you say, you could have instead have finished alot of different quests at one NPC... Finishing the same quests 50 times so you can progress, is still ridiculous and is taking advantage of players who want to continue theyr story... just my opinion...

Speaking of "fame." Dose anyone know how many times I have to repeat a quest in grauberg(Egg or wing.) to achieve rank 3?
