View Full Version : POL-0011/1160 and FFXI-3001 errors while connecting.

Details:
I'm having issues logging on POL starting from the password screen, sometimes i'm lucky to get to the title screen and launch the game, but i keep receiving POL-0011/1160 errors while trying. When i do manage to get past these errors and log in my character i end up getting disconnected with error 3001 when zoning in specific zones like Aht Urhgan. I was able to log in my mule alt who's in Sandy though, but my main who's in Aht Urghan gets these errors and can't load in-game past "Downloading Data"
Steps:
I portforwarded my router, exhausted my options with the ISP, even getting my router replaced and route changed, disabled firewall, reinstalled the game, nothing seemed to work.

This error is generally a backbone ISP or issue at the datacenter the servers are located in. It is generally temporary and there is usually not much you can do about it other than pester your ISP which you say you have already done.

But I count like 6-10 people here and the same number on ffxiah. so ether we triggered something with out knowing it. Or they should try at the very least rebooting all the servers.
When i say we btw this problem is happaning to me as well. I am playing with a VPN for now

It happens with XI alone, even if it's the only program running. The only workaround i could find, same with a number of people with the same issue lately i heard, was the use of a VPN to play.
I already had the ports forwarded, router replaced, game reinstalled, my ISP had my route changed, disabled my firewall, tried launching the game without anything else running with a cleanboot, nothing seems to work.
This issue only happens with XI servers, i'm still playing XIV or any other game without facing any issues. Maybe there's some kind of communication issues on the SE servers?

I really wish someone at SE dev team or higher up would start making phone calls and checking all there hardware to see if someone is not telling someone something. Then getting it fixed. Please SE

Yeah, i'm still facing these issues, still getting pol-0011 when trying to log in most of the times..
But i noticed that when i do manage to log in a character of mine, which is rare, some specific zones times out my game, as example my main was stuck in Al Zahbi for days not being able to log in, same for escha zi'tah or ru'aun. But an alt of mine that was in another zone logged in without major issues, until trying to go in one of these zones, which caused the same time out.
I'm using a VPN for now as a workaround to be able to play, but i hope SE takes a look into that

One of the things that makes this situation obvious is whenever it happens, you see several threads pop up on the forums at once, like is happening right now. It's clearly a widespread issue and not just one or two people.

I feel that, i can barely play currently as well, although with VPN it still works for me, i'm having to use WTFast to log in. But i'm still facing the exact same issues when i try to run the game without it, i already contacted my isp too and tried every possible alternative you also did.
I don't have any similar regional ISP if compared to other people facing the same issues either since i'm from Brazil, so i don't think that's even related, honestly, some players are just unable to play for some reason and no word from SE on the subject yet, i also believe that's some problem on SE servers that occured with this last patch

This is the same issue that is occurring Sylph. Continual error messages that state failure to contact lobby server, connection timeouts, download windows that sit there then never connect when switching zones. This has been happening since the latest patch for my wife and I. We have verified the connection is not with our ISP (as all internet requests work except FFXI). Also we are using Google primary and secondary DNS.

It happens on my wife's main character and my main character the most as well. We are in MD and came back to the game in Dec 2020 without any game issues. I believe something changed in the last patch.

One of them needs to try something on there end i feel.

Even if you're in different locations, it's still possible your data is being transferred through a common node between you and SE. Running a tracert and comparing it with others with the same issue may highlight that node.
You should be able to find similar occurrences (not necessarily SE) historically across the net with Google. There might even be a solution, but the time I personally encountered this in 2010 was regards access of a website and a misbehaving node in Texas - I ended up just stopping using the site.

This just started happening to me this afternoon. I DC'd and have had difficulty logging back on. After a while of trying to log on, I can get on and be fine until I change zones, and then I DC again.
This is obviously a new issue and something on SE's end judging by the amount of people starting to come forward with the same issue.
(I can log in on my alt with a different content ID just fine)

No i'm not.
This is an SE issue, not an isp. Otherwise i wouldn't be able to log on with any of my characters.
I can log in with my alt with a different content id, as well as some mules from my main content id, just not my main.
(perhaps there is a glitch with a certain item, where anybody that has this item can't log on?)
who knows!
edit: so i logged on to my main using my laptop, it was stranded at the downloading screen, and I came to my desktop on my alt and did a /sea all Mydel. It shows me as being on the server. It just won't finish loading me and boots me off with a FFXI-3001 error.

Well I'll give them a day or two to fix it before i just cancel my subs and get reimbursed for the ones that I just payed a few days ago.
I mean all of these people just starting to have this issue, from all across north america with different service providers. what is the common denominator? SE.... lol

I managed to run my character after i got online while R0 and ran him from west adoulin to east adoulin and finally disconnected after i zoned. i went back and was able to log in completely while in eastern adoulin. My one mule is not able to log in while in the boyhada tree either.
It seems to be an area issue, but only with certain characters..

I don't think it's a zone related thing for me. I'm having issues with just logging into POL. It's two separate battles. Logging in, then trying to get onto character.

where are your characters located in game?
I still can't get on to my guy that's in boyhada, and if i zone in to west adoulin, boyhada or doh gates with my main, i'll DC again and won't be able to get back on.
My other content ID, i can go to any zone without an issue. it's strange.
right now i'm in norg with my main, and have logged off and on him several times now without an issue.
I am going to go back to west adoulin and see if the problem repeats itself.
Update: Ok, went from Norg to East adoulin, no issues. zoned in to west adoulin...bam! DC....

ha! now i can't even connect to the lobby server or get to the character selection screen on my main, and now i can't log in to my alt on my other id. lol this is just silly.
well i'll be cancelling my accounts tomorrow if it isn't fixed and getting a refund for this month.

Like I said, I don't DC or have any connection issues if i'm in certain zones. This is why i don't think it is an ISP issue.

I'm really confused what the issue is Thelona. I'm trying to troubleshoot it myself. This issue caused my main character to be locked on "Downloading Now..." screen.
So another thing is like anytime logging in POL anytime there was a connection check "Retry" Download Friendlist "Retry" Downloading Messages "Retry" Hit Play "Retry" Trying to Select Character "Retry".
The moment I downloaded a free VPN, I login without an issue and got out of the stuck "Downloading now..." screen. 1 minute in to actual game... R0 DC...
If I turn off the VPN Retry Retry Retry....
I have a second PC and sometimes I can get on without issue but after a couple minutes, DC.
Sorry if against community standards SE Gods but just did a test I asked my friend to try to log in my alternative account and he didn't have any issue whatsoever.
So far in this thread I know there's 3 of us from Ontario Canada but I know 2 of us for sure are completely different ISP but the problem started exact same time roughly 5PM EST.
Thelona, or anyone else here near or around Ontario Canada? I'm curious if there's somewhere along the way with our connection we're getting blocked on the way to SE Server?
Driving me nuts! I know that! =) I didn't get to visit my Friend Oseem today :(

It's more than an issue with Canada - my wife and I ran into this last night too, as did at least 2 other people from one of our Linkshells (on the night we were starting an Aeonics run *of course*). We're in New Hampshire, aka East Coast US and the two of our linkshellmates with the problem are in PA and (I think) FL.
She got hit with the issue first after zoning in Port Bastok. I was able to zone in fine and was able to zone into my Mog House with no trouble.
The trouble started when I shutdown to let her try my computer. She couldn't get in on my machine either, and when I tried to log back in, I wasn't able to make it in at all. The primary error was POL-0011 but a few times I made it in further and got other time out errors.
We tried a bunch of suggestion, from rebooting the machines, to rebooting the router, to running via my work VPN and nothing made any difference. From talking with a linkshell-mate who was having the same problem, I was finally able to get in by disconnecting from my normal internet connection entirely and connecting via a Personal Hotspot from my iPhone.
I did try to connect with both the original internet connection and the Hotspot tether active and that didn't work at all - same POL-0011 error. Removing the original connection and going soley via the Hotspot seems to be a requisite.
We were able to play for 3 hours on the hotspot, zoning several times with no issue.
When I tried logging in this morning via the regular connection, the problem was still there though - and, fortunately, the tethering option seems to still resolve the issue.
I tried logging into FFXIV on the normal internet connection as well, just to see and wound up getting three errors with connecting right after entering my credentials. Attempt #4 there worked though and I was able to log in fully with no further problem.
Interestingly, logging into my Square-Enix account on the website here so that I could post this message gave me two immediate timeout errors when I tried to put the One Time Password in. Attempt #3 worked there though.
As extra info, our regular ISP is Atlantic Broadband, and there have been no other internet problems apart from Square-Enix stuff. I can log into a variety of other games and websites with no problems at all. It's just SE that seems to be failing to make the connection.

I am also having this issue. My provider is Metronet (fiber 1GBPS) and I live in Michigan. Got this issue midday on 5/23. I could log into some mules but not my main character. The furthest I would get is downloading data for logging in with the black screen, and then get a POL error and either get booted back to the lobby or completely back to POL where I would also have issues saying there was no internet connection. I also attempted to log in through my mobile hotspot through AT&T with no login success, so the provider doesn't appear to be an issue.

I know thats a bad joke but i feel like ether something failed or something did not do what it needs right.

Cannot fully login. Login process times out during random parts of the process.
Steps:
Everything was working normally for most of the day. (I have 1 account, 9 chars) My bazaar mule had been logged in all night. I switched to other chars and did event stuff and choco-digging and inventory shuffling between my chars. Did an hour of Lilith HTBF with linkshellmates, then a couple hours of CPing in Moh Gates. THEN...DISASTER!
I activated my Warp Ring to warp to my home point in Port Bastok (HP near mog house) and the screen never got past "Downloading Data" with a black screen. After waiting about 10 minutes I killed the Playonline process through Windows' Task Manager because there was no other way to shut down. After that, I couldn't log completely in.
Every step of the login process, starting from "checking playonline version" to "checking password" to "getting friend's list" to actually gaining access to my character (any character), was likely to timeout and require me hitting "retry". Of course, those steps in the login process when "retry" wasn't available just failed after timeout and I had to start all over again.
What I tried:
1. Check Files, which btw, also had timeout issues when it needed to connect to SE to check version, etc. No problems found when it did finally work.
2. Restarted modem, router, my laptop.
3. Tried logging in on my husband's desktop since his character hadn't been bumped out like mine. Unfortunately, not only could I not log in with my character, I had to log out his character and now he too had the dreaded SE server timeout issues.
4. Tried logging in via a VPN. Did not work.
5. I have no other programs running when I play FFXI.
6. I have no trouble with internet access for anything else.
After literally 2 1/2 hours of troubleshooting (and my husband getting suggestions from someone else on our linkshell having the same issues), I was only able to log in via a Hotspot point on his phone. And connecting was as normal - no timeout issues or delays. However, THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION; it's only a workaround. And from what others are posting, this workaround may not work tomorrow.

i too am having the same problem since yesterday, live in canada and had no connection problems what so ever.
it started with my main r0ing a few times then when we got out of ambu we went to get new ki and i ro mid warp and now is stuck in downloading data. meanwhile on my laptop my other toon was fine.
my main kept getting 3001 3201 1160 and 0011 network errors
ive reset my modem since im hardwired in and 1gb speed. restarted pc, then i lost my other account after the modem reset that account same errors
i have gotten back to char select screen after many errors popping up no connection no content id no mail service etc but all i get is a downloading data then 3001 no connection
1 of 5 alts on that account has gotten in no r0ing etc can walk talk etc but once i log it out and try another back to the same problem
i have also tried hotspotting my pc to my phone to no go

I have been running into various connection errors since last wednesday. I tried creating a new character last night.. she could log in and run around just fine. It's not on my end.

Issue just started for me last night.
Do we know a list of IP's we can use to test this? Like to run a trace route? I'm not having any issues with anything else (Netflix, youtube, other games, etc etc) and I've not changed any of my configurations (and I've rebooted all the hardware involved). I'm pretty sure the issue is outside of my house and likely not like, on my block since it's only FFXI, but it's hard to be sure without being able to do a trace and see how far it gets before running into troubles.

I'm still facing these issues as well, except now it's gotten even worse for me. I was at least being able to play with VPN until 2 days ago, but now not even this stopped working for me, still getting timed out in certain zones and getting POL errors. This is getting extremely annoying, my sub is soon to be over and i was barely able to get any playtime due to this issue with XI servers.

im about to cancel both my accounts and do a charge back for 19 years..... we cant even get a mod or a responce to actually help us, people saying oh its your isp, when it seems like every1 here are mostly on all different isp throughout all NA and Canada. so that should rule that out, VPN isnt working i just bought 3 different ones and 1 worked for like 2 min then failed

Are you able to select which country you can connect to via the vPn?
If so, try Japan, that works for me. for now at least,.

Anyone else not having issues now today but notice their macros are gone?
Also I'm missing a piece of gear I augmented with Oseem day before yesterday.

Doesn't look like i'm having any issues today either, i managed to log in twice first try, did several zonings to several places that used to time out my character before and nothing broke, although my macros are not gone like you said happened with you.

If you don’t mind verifying. I realized all my macros were still there with the exception of macro book 1 and the first line got replaced with default macros for a new player. Also all the names of my macro books were replaced back to default.

Odds are the problem wasn't with SE's stuff and they didn't do anything to fix this. Given this issue has popped up from time to time over the years (judging by the search results I found trying to research the error messages), I would guess SE has their servers somewhere without a lot of redundant connections between them and the bulk of the world (which Japan being an island would seem likely to have such issues).

Currently been facing this issue for the past 5 hours.
All was well, used a teleport to head to Norg, disconnected.
Constant stream of error messages - as mentioned in this thread, I can sometimes get to the "downloading data" screen after a few tries, but then can't get in to the game - try again and get the message that "this character is already logged in".
Past 10-15 tries can't even get me in to pol.
