How you people deal with it? Should I just blacklist all the people who spam selling something over and over and over and over?

Hi

There is a chat filters window under a second menu > config to turn off the /yell spams. Unfortunately, that has been going on for years and there is no way to stop it. :(

I know a script to stop it but I am not allowed to share it on the official forums as the rules say so.

I'm usually on a server that's quite a bit more quiet-like, and the yells are not an issue there.

When I do visit Asura, I have the filter enabled so I don't see any of it. ^^;

Just turn on the chat filter, or move to Bahamut if you want nobody talking in /yell

You can only see /yell in towns btw.

There is a difference between talking and absolute drivel.

I blist. The expansion of the blist has enabled me to go beyond the original 100 cap (which was definitely needed). Once you get most of the JP/EXP sellers and usual trolls, things get pretty quiet.

There is a difference between talking and absolute drivel.

What is drivel to you is entertainment to others. The world does not revolve around you.

Just blist hundreds of people, then complain when nobody invites you or replies to anything you ask for help with.

I don't have to worry there because most of the trolls are typically mercs or don't seem to leave town anyway. I wouldn't rely on /yell anyway, like most people, I use Linkshell(s).
In case you haven't notice, yell aside from Mercs and RMT is pretty dead anyway, so to rely on that for doing content would mean sitting in town for hours, fingers crossed.

yell chat is near dead most of the time, not only on ffxi but most online games. Mainly because of intolerant whiners.

One person doesn't like this, one doesn't like the other, another doesn't like something else and in the end nobody talks about anything.

Unfortunately, we do not have any moderation of the /Yell channel.
I recommend as mentioned above, set the /Yell filter to On.

I mean, it's true and it's a valid option.

Asura is overcrowded. The populations should be more balanced, but somebody people apparently listen to one day said "everyone come to asura" and people did.

I think they should add an option where you can choose not to see a /yell if the same text has already been /yelled recently. for example

*toggle spam control off*
"job points do you need it buy?"
"CP party do you need it? BRD GEO COR can i have it? 3/6"
"job points do you need it buy?"
"job points do you need it buy?"

*toggle spam control on*
"CP party do you need it? BRD GEO COR 3/6"
"job points do you need it buy?"
^ (this wont show up anymore until you rezone)
"CP party do you need it? BRD GEO 4/6"
"CP party do you need it? BRD 5/6"

I think this way it would help eliminate the amount of copy paste spams, simple and hopefully effective

All they need to do is what every other mmorpg does and split the chat chanels up, put trade in trade and lfg in lfg. This way you have to use tab on the chat channel to move over and see lfg and trade.

People selling services and wanting groups can spam all they want then.

I suggested this about 10 years ago, but I imagine it would at the very least require a new user interface ~cough~ https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/attachment.php?attachmentid=7748&d=1376626188 ~cough~... excuse me.

Though to be fair(?), what they had there at the time [1], is basically what we have now (only two windows at most, and no tabs, but it would probably have been easier to implemen tabs in that).

Maybe for the 20th anniversary surprise (okay I don't think it would really fit for that, but if it was one part of it, that would be nice, I maybe guess).

I mean, that's true. As I have suggested merge servers (last year), people like to be in a large populated server with more English players, have most of everything in the auction house, independently soloing as long as you keep your adventure going.

While there is no solution, people will still come to Asura because it's hard for them to get out and live in a quieter server. GM calls ended a long time ago.

I suppose in fairness, the community did ask for a merge for quite some time before someone got everyone to just pile on asura. If they merged instead we would have ended up with 4-6 servers with good populations instead of 1 with 3/4 of the pop and the rest spread around the others.

But now it's too late for that. They'd have to merge too many other servers together to balance it out.

What I can tell you is I still know people here, and I"m not paying money to move to another server just to listen to more RMT spam and play with real people slightly more often (I say slightly because unless its like, dynamis or vagary or something, its not worth the trouble to gather real people regardless of the population when trusts will do the job with no waiting)

I've been trying to stress for a long time now the advantages of being on a lower pop server- less RMT and cheating (disproportionately less in fact), much better grinding/farming camp availability, no wait for Ambuscade and such, can still make friends and find ppl to do stuff if you look, etc.

But literally every new player thread I see here says "someone told me to go Asura." Everyone thinks more pop on one server is always better when it really is not so simple.

We almost got a new UI, but then we didn't. A very early version of a new, more mouse-friendly UI with movable windows etc. was even tested on the Test Server before it shut down but apparently the guy working on it left the company or some silly reason and it never got finished.

I understand your point. I remember you have told me I should stand up against people moving to Asura however I couldn't. I just don't feel like it. Maybe I should say Welcome to Vana'diel instead of Asura. You and I both know people have transferred without letting us know first. Try not to stress yourself out too much if people decide to go to Asura. Stress isn't good for health.

This thread is about /yell issues on Asura. Of course, it has nothing to do with other servers if /yell doesn't bother you too much.

Asura is my home server since Pandemonium got merged with. Anyone is more than welcome to come to here. Someone who has transferred to here absolutely has no right to tell someone else to move to another server nor make a GM call on us.

Of course, it has nothing to do with other servers if /yell doesn't bother you too much.True, some people just filter out or tune out the yells entirely, while others wish and want it to be useful but feel like they can't use it because of all the nonsense that goes on. This is not a real problem on other servers, but at the same time, in fairness if SE did something about this, it doesn't have to be an issue anywhere. Buuuut, they continue to drag their feet on this one.

Exactly, that's why I once mentioned a script (for solving their own problem). I am not going to bring a swear word here but it is what it is. :)

Lets though, just for a moment address the elephant in the room about yell spam selling stuff.

The reason people buy everything, is because the developers do not listen and so people either opt out of doing content (capacity grinds are so terrible you feel you can't make any progress), can't do it in the first place (stupid difficulty curves), demoralizing difficulty ratings (easy ambuscade v1 you say, more like ultimate death mode "and you suck btw, haha you can't even clear easy mode?" for most players) paying someone else is the only valid way to progress to masses of people.

https://i.imgur.com/6mHp9f0.jpg

Here is what I experienced when I came back from a long break:

I could not grind worthwhile capacity points because escha gave low amounts and I could not kill apex in a worthwhile amount of time, it was so slow I gave up even trying and any gains I was making were from doing other things.
I could not get decent gear (this was addressed with DomainInvasion and magically you see very few people now buying this gear now, see how that works SE!?)
Whenever I tried to do any content, from high tier battlefields or ambuscade I clicked easy mode and was promptly destroyed, if I got some friends with equal starter gear to also do it on easy mode we were also destroyed. This was the point I nearly quit the game because not only could I make no progress on anything I tried but I was also being mocked by the difficulty ratings that told me was easy, which wasn't easy at all. I didn't think, "maybe I just need better gear I thought this is easy mode and I can't even do that...I suck".

You know why I didn't quit? because I had a way to make gil farming currency and I just started buying stuff from mercs. That's literally why I did not quit the game.

The developers are in their own little world, they don't understand how the game is to play and they have a road map that is set in stone. They make new content, barley anyone does it (odeseey, assistchannel), player numbers keep dropping, people get to 99 and they quit and they barely ever address anything because they don't listen to the players.

Most players do not want to buy capacity points, they don't want to buy levels, they don't want to buy gear. They feel they have to, that's the real problem. The secondary problem is that once they get used to buying them for no effort, they get stuck in that rut and then don't want to do it anyway.

Developers should be forced to play the game, they should be forced to try and get to master or even get 50 job points on a new account. They should be forced to get a set of armor and then +2 it from ambuscade with laughably low rewards per kill or stupid difficulties.

That is the point you see the developers asking the local mercs if they can help them get some job points, or that 119 sword, or get them 1-2 VD V1 clears due to the insane tedium of "get 10 kills to get ki" > go back to do v2 for 100 points and hey, maybe the bomb will critical explode and kill you anyway".

Ambuscade is the only good content on FFXI for most players and some months you can't even do that, and they are so concerned with the non-existent queue times that they make it boring (why 10 kills to get ki when v1 is 1) and so people opt out. Great you made the queue times less and now nobody has anything to do and will ubsub, good job.

Fix the game and people will play the game, don't fix the game and they will pay to skip.

I could not grind worthwhile capacity points because escha gave low amounts There are many ways to increase cap gain and it also increases as you gain more job points. Find a group rather than soloing with trust. There are people to do it with if you know where to look.

I remember you have posted somewhere about wanting the dev team to create a new content where all players from all worlds transfer into one area (example: Zehira@Asura). Just like FFXIV's Bozjan (Eureka 2.0). I am not sure how it would work on an old technology. I think what SE is trying to do is just drag us out of FFXI and move to FFXIV and they will keep doing it until the 20th anniversary. What I can say is keep the faith because they basically take my feedback about FFXI and send it to the FFXIV dev team. XD

Pretty much true, all they seem to care about is 14. This is what happens when you put the same staff on both games and one has a cash shop that turns players into consumers.

Oh well, done wasting my time I guess.

I face palmed here. If they just buy from mercs to get by, then they will get bored a lot quicker.
Why join anything when you can take the easy way out and buy it from a multi-boxer? You're missing the whole point of game. They may not know it themselves, but it is the most self-defeatist thing ever,

I think she needs to find an endgame linkshell that would keep her busy. The best gear I have is GEO a bunch of AF+1, AF+2, AF+3, expensive rings, etc... The sad part is most of everyone required us to be on their voice chat while doing the content. I told them I am deaf and I can't be on their voice chat so I often came as GEO to keep everyone buffed/debuffed.

I did that. It's different to be honest, I can't really compare I'm quite a noob with XI but I think it has a lot of charm and the overworld feels more cool.
