Sorry if there are other threads on this subject, but I'd like to hear from Square-Enix themselves about whether or not this is a bannable offense as I've heard too many conflicting reports on the subject.
If someone spawns a Notorious Monster, uses the Brew to kill it very quickly and then uses any form of NPC (usually magian specs or a martello) to suspend the effects of the Brew until someone else can pop the NM again, can you be banned for doing so?
It certainly feels like an exploit, however I've been getting more & more tempted to try it because quite frankly I am sick and tired of spending over half an hour killing Carabosse for 1~2 gems a pop due to her utterly ridiculous -50% damage taken after using Benediction.

We are aware of this function and would like to clarify any concerns that you guys may have about this.
Locking the Primeval Brew countdown timer by examining chests (for example) is currently [03/18/2011] a known mechanic and by design.
However, this does not mean that adjustments will not be made in the future. We will be sure to keep the community updated at www.playonline.com / information section if any changes are made to this system.
If you have any additional inquiries, constructive suggestions or feedback about this mechanic, we suggest bringing it to the "General Discussion" section.
As always, we will be monitoring these threads, reviewing feedback for improvements, and providing clarification when necessary.
Thank you,

What that GM is saying "Its in no way against the rules or mechanics of the game, but we're probably going to change it anyway. LoL".
So its safe to use for now.

How does it take you over half an hour? Do you use Atma?

As mentioned in that other post, Boost wears off... From my understanding, once upon a time, MNKs used to lock/freeze their Boost timer in Sky at the Telepad Portal that was used to go up to Kirin's Room. When a group would pop their Kirin, a group of MNKs with a decked out Chi Blast would basically tear Kirin apart. So, what SE ended up doing is making boost wear off when a NPC menu would open and additionally SE made the abused Telepad random, a player would from then on get the Kirin's Room or Aura Pots Room.

What would be the point in doing that? If you start a timed boost rotation (like a timed nuke), you'd be able to time Kirin popping and getting off all the chi blasts, regardless.

Before this said update, instead of performing a Chi Blast with 12 Boosts, players would attempt to stack as many Boosts as they could within that locked timer which was thrown off by the menu option, hell, I don't know, more than 100 Boosts on a single Chi Blast would a seemed nice.

I'm not sure how it takes you that long... when we were doing my Masamune we had a few kills that were so fast it didn't even get Bene off. Before you ask, we only had one party and the kills were like 5-7 minutes with Bene.

so it was boost=> lock timer but not recast=> rince and repeat?

So you can't be banned for it. Good to know.
If I can ever convince some people to help methinks it's time for some sweet revenge.
And it takes forever because I usually only fight her with like 4 people max and no one I know (who will help me anyway) has Empyrean WS like Victory Smite... I'm usually on WAR and I should really finish my Maschu but I just haven't had the energy to log into the game in weeks. Been at Carabosse for so long I'm about ready to quit over this nonsense because no one seems to ever want to fight her.

I'm not sure why this would be "abuse". The brew is either 2m or 200k cruor, and while 200k is easier to get than 2m, it still takes a decent amount of time. I believe most NMs die well before the 3 minutes of brew is up, so why not get the most "bang for your buck" by killing as many NMs as you can before it wears off? If I can help my group take down 2-3 NMs with a brew (after they've proc'd blue/grellow/red as needed), I consider it 200k cruor well spent.

Because there are some people who get on an absolute rant whenever any efficient method of accomplishing something is discovered. Their the same people who got angry about NIN becoming a tank, or people going /NIN. They got angry at DRK zergs and the older "TP Burn" parties. Basically they want everyone's experience to suck.

You don't need an emp WS to kill carabosse in under 15 mins with 4 people... Honestly I didn't even know she could take so long to be killed, although by the time we bothered fighting her she was already 'old' content.
