Blue Mage Question

Quick question for all if i may. Im new to blu and i would really like to get some advice from the more advanced in the job. What would be good set up for Thermal pulse Charged Whisker and Cannonball. Atmas gear the works any help would be grateful and thank you in advance

Well if ya new to BLU and you're asking what would be a good set up considering that 2 of those spells are 80+, then something is wrong....

But if you want to work the spells to your advantage using a set up then you would kinda need to look at the modifier

for example Cannonball is 50%STR and 50%VIT, but since we tends to have quite a few STR gears we tend to balance it out to adding +VIT gears to boost the spell (not sure i'm explaining it right)

Charged Whiskers is a magic-based spell so again if you want more damage then you would need to lean toward a MAB (Magic Attack Bonus) set

But again it's very situational, depending on what you would like to do with those spells... personally i don't use cannonball pretty much now-a-days except for pulling for a party if needed be since it's has a good range for me to pull as my main solo-skill chain for light is now Savage Blade with Goblin Rush.

That aside, let me see if I can't answer your question a bit more specifically, though I do agree with the statement that, if you're new to BLU yet you're asking about level 80+ spells, something's up.

1) Charged Whisker
Mods: DEX (50%), INT (Unsure, but I believe 50% as well)
Affected by MAB: Yes

Recommended setup: If you're willing to lose TP for the Lightning Affinity from the Thunder/Jupiter's Staff, not to mention the DEX+, swap that in. Otherwise, use dual MAB swords to go along with this suggested build:

(note, this build is suggested for practicality, not necessarily "optimal")
Main: See above | Sub: Grip or second MAB sword | Range: X | Ammo: Varies, I personally use Mavi Tathlum
Head: Aias Bonnet* | Neck: Artemis' Medal or Uggly Pendant | Ear1/2: Any Combination of Moldavite/Hecate/Novio
Body: Teal Saio** | Hands: Mavi Bazuband +1/2 | Rings: INT or MAB-auged Demon Rings fit here nicely.
Back: Prism Cape/Potentia Cape | Waist: Penitent's Rope | Legs: Teal Slops | Feet: Mavi Bismak +1/2

*I recommend Aias Bonnet because we don't get much good stuff in the way of MAB on the head. The +DEX makes a difference. Hikmet Hat could go here too.
**Teal Saio is the better option we've got for the moment for the MAB. Morrigan's Robe, if you have the time and luck to get it, will trump this.


2) Thermal Pulse
Mods: INT (primary) / VIT (secondary)
Affected by MAB? Yes

Recommend Setup: See Charged Whisker build, though replace Thunder/Jupiter's Staff with Fire/Vulcan's if you're willing to lose the TP, and switch Aias Bonnet for Hikmet Hat. The rest all applies.


3) Cannonball
Mods: STR (50%), VIT (50%)
Notes: Damage heavily modified by Defense. I'm talking big gains with moderate amounts of defense boosting.

Recommended Setup: This is one of the few times where I'd personally recommend a shield for the extra defense, but a Fire Staff + Axe Grip works well too for the STR boost.

Main: VIT/STR ToM sword or staff | Sub: Shield or grip | Ammo: Bibiki Seashell
Head: Mirage Keffiyeh or Wivre Mask/+1 | Neck: Fortitude Torque | Ears: Triumph Earrings
Body: Magus Jubbah/+1 | Hands: Alkyoneus Bracelets | Rings: Rajas/Flame/Soil Rings
Back: Smilodon Mantle +1 | Waist: Warwolf Belt | Legs: Mavi Tayt +1/2 | Feet: Mederi Brogues*

*These can be aug'd with up to STR+6, try and go for as much as possible!

Note again that these are suggested builds; I don't know every possible piece off of the top of my head, but these are all fairly reasonable to obtain (minus the Fortitude Torque) for even a casual player.

The reason i was asking about lvl 80+ spells is for a decent look into the future, more so to see what gears and sets i would need to get to optimize those spells. And ok i missed a few commas in the OP it happens.
