There is no point what so every for this. It is just a useless time sink. You guys have adjusted skillups, which to be honest, I see no difference.
I spent three hours in Abyessa with melee puppet, it is 20 levels below cap and he got one 0.3 in that three hours on T to IT mobs. I don't know how anyone can consider this ok. I think I am averaging maybe one full level every 6 hours or so. At that rate we are talking 120 hours for me to cap just one of my puppets.
Why bother with the caps? If you are going to keep them, then at least increase the rate on puppets by 100 times. But to be honest, I cannot think of one reason at all to not have them just cap when they level, like wyvern, like Bst jug pets.

I hear what you're saying, but honestly, and this is something that most PUPs tend to ignore, the Automaton is our weapon. It's our unique weapon. Now that said, I was always kind of angry they never created trial weapon skills for them to give them weapon skills that allow us to better skill chain with them. As it is really, the only frames that can Lv3 Skill chain with us are the ones that can use Magic Mortar and that's pretty weak for the most part.
Both DRGs and BSTs have A rated skills on weapons, the Automaton is where our A-rank comes in for a weapon. But I do agree that they need to fix the skill up rate for the Automaton as it doesn't seem to be nearly as good as our skill up rate is.

I agree with LeaderofAtlantis in that the Automaton is your main asset. I would recommend skilling up outside of Abyssea, for one, and not overlooking the importance of skill.
Also, a lot of jobs can't solo Tier III chains on their own, so just that is impressive. At 75 we have 3/4 of the Tier II properties, which is more than most jobs. The DD frames are great for parties because of this.
Though, taking subs into account, you could create a chain with your puppet that causes Distortion, [Meditate] during that, and close with Stringing Pummel, causing Darkness. Just a thought.

problem is, even outside i average a skill level ever 3 hours or so, its just rediculous.

i would have to agree i can work on Automaton skill up for hour and it just seem like a wast of time i was capped at 75 and now not even close for Automaton

I think it would seem like a lot less of a waste of time if we gained more from the melee/ranged skill.
For magic we gain spells as it goes up, but for melee we get the acc/atk and thats it. I think there should be abilities tied to skill levels to make people WANT to grind it out.
EG:
Valor Edge
153 (lvl 50 skill) : Double attack 5%
178 (55) : Crit hit rate 5%
203 (60 etc..) : gear haste 5%
227 : 5% counter rate
244 : gear haste 5% (10 total)
269 : 5% counter rate (10% total)
294 : gear haste 5% (15% total)
324 : Double attack 5% (10% total)
354 : gear haste 5% ( 20% total)
So at 90 you have a pet with
10% da, 10% counter, 20% gear haste (stacks with wind maneuvers), +5% crit hit rate

lol, yes and give to our pet an ultima spell/ws the deals 9999 damage every hit...i always wonder how much the dev laugh reading some topic and post...
what pup needs is just a little fix to the skillup rate, thats enough...but, personally, i never had an issue keeping all my frame capped just doing some skillup session or during events with the ls lol...i even capped my melee skill during exp ally in abyssea XD

Idk what you guys doing but you doing something wrong ^^ I got alot skill ups in abyssea w/h a short time and it doesn´t matter if it was melee, ranged or magic skills.

Dude i got 2,7 skills in about 1 hour, maybe i should record it if you don´t wanna accept it. You know certain mobs give you faster skill ups than other right ? But i guess accroding to your first post this isn´t the case.

2.7 skill ups in an hour is a lot? That's about what everyone is talking about when they say the skill up rate is low.
I must be doing it wrong and should just quit the job because the mighty ahtos said so.... in his terrible english. Go post in your own language forums please.

Never heard of this. As far as i know, mob family doesn't matter, al that matters is the Enemies Level.

Honestly, I have no issues skilling mage pups, although the Beadeaux curse is just a time sink, set it to healer and solo, you'll get skills aplenty. NOW VE/SS after an aby party, there's an issue. In order for a non-mage job to skill they have to actually hit the target, if you are gapped by over 100 don't expect to be connecting. So, it's off to Kuftal to let your auto solo (yes, solo). He may not hit anything, but he's got the HP and eva of a 90. Eventually he should connect, but you should just be ok with going AFK (personally, I fire up netflix streaming in another window) and check back every couple minutes. Keep a bit of inv space, might as well sell what drops.

best i can say about skilling is wait for martial master to be up and then spam birds in mis, coast. its still slow but a bit faster. I wish i could show proof (lolxbox...) but i got ~12-13 skill lvls in ~7 hrs of straight play, but that was also w/ using burts.
P.S. make friends go with u, mobs will die faster but time will also fly by; making it seem ur skilling really fast... till u look at ur clock XD

Problem with that xanaduu is martial master doesnt affect your pet since it requires signet to be up.

Uhhhh, how about "No". Look, PUP like people said is a Unique job, just like any jobs with weapons and skills for enhancing your abilities such as Healing, Enfeebling, etc PUP is exactly like that. Your Automatons are your weapons and their Abilities need skill plus, what would happen to the PUPs merit system? Everything would be completely useless in the Group 1 category

there is no reason for it, you could still have the cap but when you level the puppet automatically goes to the cap.
the rate is just so bad, hours i spend upon hours skilling it up and barely see a blip. sometimes 2 hours will go by in abyessa and not see one partial skillup at all.
They need to increase the rate dramatically, all it is is a useless time sink. And i have no problem with them doing away with the need to skillup on every job, it does not break the game, all it does is take away somethign that is a pain in the ass from all the players.
there is 0 need to have to skillup.

finally: you are doing something wrong if in 2 hours inside abyssea you get no skillup...dumb question, are you sure you are fighting at least decent mob? XD
lol last saturday i got a full 1 point of skillup with valoredge doing a sandoria wotg bc versus a bunch of orcs nm (automaton skill is capped but i suppose its the +10 skill from merit bug that continue to give me skillup)

your first comment. this game is all about time sinks. Yes it is, but it doesnt have to be. Most of the player base hates time sinks, but we deal with them, but there is no need for useless time sinks.
you have to admit the rate is bad, it doesnt seem on par with the master skillup. it needs to be adjusted.
