Me and a couple of friends are looking to return to the game for nostalgia and well let's face it, the new crop of mmorpgs are just terrible...
What would be the recommended server(s) if we wanted to join the most populated and active?

It's also worth pointing out that if you're coming back for "nostalgia" the game isn't like it was, it had been modernized somewhat. You can level with quests and "trusts" now for example and there is a whole new endgame.
