Hey a really old weird question. A few of my oldest FF friends were banned back in ToA for an exploit, for those of you that were around it was the salvage bans (the big one).

They had played since launch and still to this day avoid XI because the thought of the loss of there characters stings so damn much and they regret it. We are all old now but the talk of coming back has popped up, but the thought of it not on their old characters still hurts.

They don't know I'm asking this, but has anyone ever got their ban lifted after all these years? Also, do dev's read this? Some very dedicated FF fans that screwed up would greatly appreciate it.

We don't need more cheaters to the game tbh.

Devs don't read the English forums these days, but they are quite active and involved with players on the Japanese side.

Recovering very old accounts is a serious pain in the rear and a bit of a toss-up on whether or not you can reactivate normally. With the extra issue of the old accounts having been banned for breaking the rules, I'd say the chances of actually recovering the old accounts would be exceedingly low unfortunately. Still, wouldn't hurt anything to call customer service and try. ^^

TBH, I would strongly encourage your group to just start fresh on new accounts. It's absolutely nowhere near as painful to start from scratch nowadays as they are sure to remember, and there are still helpful people running around Vana'diel who'd be happy to help you guys catch up to speed. When I was unable to recover my old account, I started over and had actually accomplished more in the first 3 months back on a fresh character than I had fought hard for between lauch-2009... Seriously. ._.;;

Also, if y'all happen to make your way over here to Asura, I'm one of our newbie/returnee specialists and can help smooth your transition back into the game either way.

Just thought I'd mention that both the Welcome Back Campaign (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/campaign/wcb/index.html) (for returnees) and the Discount Campaign (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/campaign/discount/index.html) (for new accounts) are actually active right now, so either way you guys want to go, now is a great time to do so. :D

It's been almost an entire decade. People do occasionally grow up a bit. Even gamers like us. XD

I hope that they have learned their lesson and won't do anything similar now that they are older and hopefully wiser.

Well, the thing is now it's perfectly acceptable to do basically anything. So having a fee to unban, just makes sense now.

The things people are doing now make salvage bans look like preschool.

So they just spent a decade cheating in some other game :P

With the attitude that some of you are having I'm guessing you have no idea what the salvage bans even were. For those of you that offered some form of opinion without judgement, thanks we'll consider it.

The salvage bans were not some 3rd party cheat, it was something about 10% of the high end LS's were doing. It gutted alot of servers competitive community who genuinely didn't think they were doing anything wrong, just thought it was some weird mechanic in the game. Be educated before you judge people.

sure, purposely using broken party mechanics to multiply normal drops... nothing wrong with that whatsoever...

Squares own fault for knowing about it for months and not fixing it. Shouldn't have been handled the way it was.

Yep, I knew what they were. It was a bunch of people who exploited the system, failed to report it to SE, and repeatedly took advantage of it, thinking they would get away with it.

People reported it, for MONTHS. Square refused to fix it. (just like now there are dozens of things wrong)

The people abusing it, or people reporting the people abusing it?

People reported the dupe, and since square ignored it, they went ahead and used it. Can't fault that logic tbh. If I tell you it's wrong and you go "don't care" ... then I have to assume "is ok"

it'd be like them banning every single person who used SMN to burn aeonics, it's not exactly apples:apples but it's the same principle.

1) AC is clearly broken, reported multiple times
2) square; "don't care"
3) it's used excessively
4) logs get checked, everyone gets banned

this is the identical step by step process for salvage bans.
